Hot or Hmm Halloween Edition...: Mariah and Nick

So the Cannons hosted a Halloween Eve Costume Party last night and...Wowza!!:

In true Mimi fashion, the couple made TWO matching costume changes, from firemen to a chocolate chip cookie and milk combo. I could say something freaky about the last but I'll leave that to your creative minds, wink-wink...

That pumpkin is a hilarious hot mess (and at the same time a seriously cool piece of art).
You know what? I can't even hate on these two. Whatever people say, they look like they have fun doing them and leave the opinions to the rest of us. Loves it!
Happy Halloween, FB'ers!

Mail Bombs: Ciara's Hot Stiletto's and Kim Kardashian's Over the Knee Boots

Happy Halloween!
Are y'all dressing up for the big fete? I think my Halloween celebration will be dull for several reasons: First, I heard from my homies that the Frenchies don't 'do' Halloween. Second, my five (yes FIVE) suitcases were so packed full of shoes and dresses that I had no room at all for a funky, creative costume. I wonder what I can be based off my wardrobe? I guess I can go as a magazine editor...?
However you celebrate Halloween, these Mail Bombs should start your day off with kick...
...let's not delay!
First, reader Chanel fell in love with yesterday's Ciara post! She says, "I neeeed these shoes in my life!! LOL!!"
"Can you find out the designer, and maybe some good alternatives??"
Adriana searched and found that Cici is wearing these Balenciaga Patent Escarpin Booties from its Fall 2008 collection:
Here are a few less expensive alternatives:
1. RSVP Macey Boot, $83. 2. Donald J Pliner Chad Bootie, $290. 3. Lotus Zip Front Ankle Bootie, $240.
Next Cherelle says, "I saw this picture of Julissa at a BET premier, and I was wondering where I could find her skirt?"
"... Whether it’s the exact make or a replica, I think it's hot fall look!"
Pair a black top and tights with these beauts for a similar style:
1. Amuleti J Knee Length Skirt, $238. 2. Forever 21 Mina Slub Textured Skirt, $20. 3. Robert Rodriguez Tweed Tie Front Skirt, $160. 4. Milly Stretch Cotton Bow Pencil Skirt, $130.
Jess from Jersey says, "I'm not exactly sure why Mel B. has been getting so much spotlight these past few months but I AM taking notice of her major style game. Can we please talk about this dress she has on? "
"I love this look for two reasons: 1) She manages to pull off the conservative but sexy look- snaps. 2) This is extremely seasonally appropriate but the pop of color is a nice change from the more typically muted fall colors. I need this look! I love it, from the fishnet stockings down to the bold red pumps. Any suggestions?"
Sure! Achieve Mel B's chic with these high and low priced items:
1. Diane von Furstenberg Ludlow Dress in Electric Blue, $395. 2. Wolford Twenties Fishnet Stockings, $42. 3. Oh Deer! Praline Red Patent Pumps, $75. 4. Aldo Frosury Pumps, $80.
Next Fashion Bomber Bianca says, "I saw this picture of Kim Kardashian and fell in love with her over the knee boots:"
"...The leather looks like buttah! :)"
If you want a flat black over the knee boot, you can go with any of these winter ready options:
1. Banfi Zambrelli Olive Over the Knee Boot, $855. 2. Calvin Klein Footwear Women's "Mazzie" Over-The-Knee Leather Flat Boots, $220. 3. Loeffler Randal Riley Over Knee Zip Boots, $825. 4. Steve Madden Overpass Boot, $230.
Ashley from Cali says, "I love voluminous scarves, but have never been able to find a really great one. Can you tell me more about Eve's scarf..."
"...Or help me find something similar?"
I could be wrong, but I think Eve is wearing a Yarnz Scarf:
Left to Right: Yarz Zebra Scarf, Yarnz Neo Python Scarf, $165.
They specialize in voluminous cashmere scarves in great colors and patterns. I could've sworn I saw Eve's style, but couldn't find it! If you want an alternative, Adriana found these:
Left to Right: AKA New York Scarf, $139; Asos Oversized Long Check Scarf, $20.
Lastly, a male Mail Bomb! Cheria wanted this look for her boo:
Get your squeeze the essentials of an R Les look with these:
1. Mackage Shane Moto Leather Jacket in Black, $649. 2. Stussy Deluxe Jack Plaid Shirt, $143. 3. Creative Recreation Milano Hi in Oxblood, $200.
Bisous!
If you dress up for Halloween, send me some pix!

Hot! or Hmm...Beyonce and Solange in Japan

The Knowles sisters are on their global grind, and they recently attended the Eight Million Ginza Gates Store Opening in Tokyo, Japan.
Both sisters seem to be tapping into alter egos, with Beyonce wearing a body clinging club dress for a day appointment, and Solange playing demure in a belted jumper. While their shoes are definitely hot!...
...do you love their outfits?
Hmmm?
Say your peace!

Style File: Ciara

Today's Style File shines on fellow ATL fashionista...
...Ciara!
Since she burst on the scene in 2004 with her anthem 'No Goodies,' she has been quietly yet consistently stepped up her style game in form fitting slinky fits that suit her slim frame:
For red carpet moments, you'll find Ciara in neutral colors, favoring grayish tones offset with sequins, embellishments, and wide leather belts...
...thigh grazing black dresses in slick satin or jersey fabrics with eye catching cutout details...
...or simple black and white, whether she's wearing a floor length gown...
Or a chic jacket dress combo with hot gray and black stilettos:
Never too predictable, she takes a step away on occasion in cute club dresses in colorful hues like pink and purple....
...all the while maintaining edge with unexpected details like exposed zippers.
For casual commitments, you'll find Cici in anything from liquid black skinnies with matching black or white tops:
...to leather jackets paired with button downs or dark washed jeans...
....always with a black pump to accentuate her height.
For a Ciara red carpet look, go with these certified club bangers:
1. Forever 21 Cheetah Burnout Dress, $42. 2. Arden B Belted Pocket Dress, $98. 3.Democracy Stretch Satin Dress with Contrast Straps and Waist, $120. 4. Sequin Shift Dress, $33. 5. A.B.S Silver Satin Peep Toe Pumps, $72. 6. Kors Michael Kors Wicked Patent Slingback Sandals, $175. 7. Georgina Goodman Women's Libby Platform Pump, $770. 8. Pour La Victoire Women's Babette Pump, $105.
For Casual Ciara, choose these:

Quickie Throwback: Door Knocker Earrings

Door knockers were a style staple of the late '80s/early '90s...

...that came roaring back a few seasons ago and seem here to stay:

Everybody has their favorites--mine were my Twists (which I still rock now and then)...

But my friends were mostly Puff, Triangle, and Bamboo kinda chicks:

Which style were you?
Get a fresh take on the door knocker look with some of these:

Hot! or Hmm..: Beyoncé and Jordin Sparks

The LBD was in full effect last night as both Beyoncé and Jordin Sparks rocked two Hot or Hmm worthy frocks.
First, Bee rocked this waist-accentuating, cut-out shoulder sheath to the debut of the new House of Deréon Collection at Bloomingdale's in NYC. I'm going for mostly Hot on this one: I'm not crazy about the hair but I love the dress's shape (and check out some of the accessories up close)!

Jordin Sparks rocked her LBD to the Avon Foundation Hope Honors event (also in NYC):

I usually like Jordin's style because she wears things that suit her fresh, young personality but not quite sure about this dress. But I do love her makeup and skin--like she's glowing from the inside out!
So, Fashion Bombers: Hot or Hmm??

Try a Trend: Feathers!

So as the weather gets nippy, celebs are opting for a fur alternative to stave off the chill:
Feathers!
Eye catching and festive, feathers add a singular pop to both casual and dressy outfits. The look can be classic, whether you opt for a little or a lot:
Truly adventurous Christina Milian prefers red carpet ready dresses of feathers in deep purple and seering turquoise:
More subdued sirens love feathers in black, whether fringing a jacket over leather leggings, adding a frou frou hem to a black cocktail...
Or moonlighting as a chic vest or skirt for nights on the town:
Feathers hold allure even for the tame, popping up as hot hair bands:
Or even more typical accessories like necklaces and earrings:
However you wear 'em, they're a fly trend that's worth a try!
If you want the exact looks of the season, splurge on these high plume items:
1. Elizabeth and James Plume Feather Vest, $595. 2. Marni Necklace, $635. 3. Elizabeth and James Feather Fringe Long Jacket, $765. 4. Yyigal Asymmetrical Feather Jersey Dress, $450. 5. Anna Sui Feather Hat, $81. 6. Jay Godfrey Feather Stretch Silk Dress, $495. 7. Givenchy Women Open Toe Platform Bootie, $965. 8. Eugenia Kim Silk Feather Headband, $105. 9. Christian Louboutin Rosazissimo Satin Sandals, $760.
Thinks feathers are just a fly by night trend? Save on these:
1. Charlotte Russe Black Feather Earrings, $4. 2. Betsey Johnson Wire Fringe Charm Necklace, $60. 3. Peacock Earrings, $18. 4. Bebe Marabou Cape, $129. 5. J'adore Headband, $45.

Mid Week Real Style: Musee de la Mode

Hey Guys!
So I think my first week in Paris must've been an anomaly because I stepped out yesterday and caught many instances of Real Style!
I saw this young lady near the Musee de la Mode (Museum of Fashion):
I'd been been trying to go to the Musee since I touched down, and finally made it there only to find it's closed until November 20th!!?!?! So while kicking rocks outside, I caught sight of this young lady who was running late and trying to catch a cab. I liked her laid back chic style, which was offset by her designer dress, boots, bright red lipstick, and stylish Ray Bans (I'm pretty sure she's wearing this D&G Dolce & Gabbana Plaid Shirt Dress. I LOVE IT!)
After making my pitch in French, I realized she spoke English. When asked what she was doing in Paris, she said, "Just living life, being inspired by art, beauty, nature." Sounds like me!
What do you think of her style?

Breaking into Fashion: Beverly Smith

Hey Fashion Bombers!
Adriana here with a Breaking into Fashion post on writer, celebrity style consultant, television personality, and founder of the Dinner with Bevy enterprise...

...Beverly Smith!
As one of Fashion's presiding Renaissance women, there are few areas of style, media, and culture Beverly Smith hasn't touched:

Starting as a receptionist at an advertising agency, Beverly climbed the ranks with her razor sharp chic barometer, holding posts as Fashion Advertising Director and Fashion Editor at Large of Vibe Magazine, Senior Fashion Director of Rolling Stone, Contributing Editor of Latina Magazine, freelance writer for Paper Mag and Interview, and TV personality on BET, E, Oxygen, and VH1.
I sat down recently with Bevy (as we call her) at Melba's in Harlem to get the 411 on her experiences in fashion, advice for breaking in to the field, and some of her Favorite Things!

On Breaking into the industry, Bevy says, "Study the art, craft, and business of fashion and you will go much farther than someone who just looks the part. Knowledge gives you the freedom to explore many facets of the business! We don't need any more fly young people carrying Goyard, wearing Lanvin but can't tell you who Madame Grès, Charles James, or Patrick Kelly are."

Bevy, whose favorite fashion memories include her first Vivienne Westwood Parisian show and Tom Ford's after party for the Met Costume Ball (in the Gucci era), contends that the key to maintaining confidence in the cutthroat world of couture is to, "Find something beyond fashion to believe in: look to family, friends, spirituality. Don't be afraid to be unique; in fact, celebrate what makes you different! "

Bevy's golden rule for success? "Be confident in who you are and what you bring to any situation. Also, know your worth: having worked in fashion for 20 years, I've built up quite a wealth of knowledge and contacts, which makes me unafraid to enter any domain."

Snaps!
Of course I had to ask this fashion maven about a few of her favorite things! She says, "I love my Gucci bandage dress from Tom Ford's third season, and my Dior "Frankenstein" platforms that I was photographed in by the New York Times. My two best assets are my cheeks and lips, so I love blush by Nars (Orgasm and Taj Mahal). Lips must be bright and shiny so a combo of a bright M.A.C. lipstick and a Wet 'n Wild gloss in gold does the trick!"
Try a Bevy essence with the following:
Herve Leger Zip Front Reversible Bandage Dress, $1,390. Nars Blush in Orgasm, $25. Dior Couture Suede Cutout Sandals, $925. Wet 'n' Wild MegaSlicks Lip Gloss, $2. M·A·C Lipstick, $14.
The divine Miss Smith has spoken!

L'Uomo Vogue November Issue is all about Africa

Franca Sozzani, edictrice of Italian Vogue is at it again!
Robin Givhan of the Washington Post reports that Madame Sozzani plans to publish an all Africa issue for the November l'Uomo Vogue to trump the July "All Black Issue" that caused quite a global furor:
Half of all the November issue's advertising revenue will be donated to Africa-related charities. Perhaps this is a response to the oft heard complaint that the 'Black Issue' lacked actual diversity in the advertisements??
About the issue, Sozzani says, "Fashion is not only about clothes....I do this from my heart and my stomach...not with my head." Hopefully other fashion mags will follow her lead.

Beauty Bomb: Shine Magazine

Adriana here!
So last week, I popped into a fantastic event for Shine, a hot new African-American and Latino beauty news and lifestyle magazine:

Co-hosted by Shine's current cover model, "106 & Park"'s Rocsi, the reception was part social networking, part celebration, as beauty professionals, press, and socialistas mingled and buzzed about. Even the Retro Kids got in on the fun.

What I immediately loved about Shine is that it speaks to the beauty experience of women of color by focusing on salons that cater to us, and including tips that speak to our unique hair experience:
I grabbed a few minutes with founder and Editor-In-Chief Phylencia Taylor (above, right) to talk about the magazine's creation:
"A couple of years ago, while working and managing a college tour for Wella, I was getting my hair, nails, etc., done in a new city every week, which was grueling. I then wanted to connect my experiences and the countless referrals I received, as well as apply my understanding of how important the beauty regimen is for women of color."
For those looking to break in to either beauty or beauty publishing, Phylencia advises, "Find what you love to do, research, develop a plan, and believe in YOU always!"

I so admire Shine's mission and, as a beauty junkie, am super excited for this magazine. Bonus: you can subscribe for free!
Visit Shine's site or e-mail info@shineexpo.com to sign up and tell 'em you heard about in on The Fashion Bomb.

Thoughts to Jennifer Hudson's Family

I read on Gawker that Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother were murdered in Chicago yesterday:
"Darnell Hudson, mother to almost universally loved Oscar-winner and American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson, was murdered in Chicago today. "Investigators said two shooting victims were discovered inside a home belonging to Hudson's mother just before 3:00 this afternoon," local TV reports. The other victim: her brother Jason. Police are releasing no details."
What a horrible incomprehensible tragedy. Thoughts to her family.

Mail Bombs: Meagan Good's Hot Shoes, Beyonce's Covergirl Look, and Keyshia Cole's Freakum Dress

It's mighty cold in Paris, but Mail Bombs are always hot!
Let's get it poppin!
First Ayo says, "I'm hoping you can help me find the designer of these shoes Meagan Good has on..."
"...I covet them!"
I must agree, that look is hot! Adriana found that Meagan is wearing these Jimmy Choo Glenys Sandals...
...Get 'em for $960 at www.jimmychoo.com.
Next, Melody asks, "Can you tell me who designed Bey's dress..."
"...and where I can get it or something similar? It looks kind of House of Dereon-ish, but not sure."
Hot it is, but House of Dereon it is not! Bey is rocking this Gucci dress from their Resort 2009 Collection:
For a similar look, Adriana found this $220 BCBGMAXAZRIA Silk Lurex Shadow Bloom Print Halter Gown:
Good luck!
Margery from Brooklyn says, "I was just wondering where I can find Keyshia Cole's dress ..."
"...I have a party coming up and I just love the details!"
Keyshia is wearing this Herve Leger dress from his Fall 2008 Ready to Wear collection:
Adriana found that it retails for $1,590 at www.herveleger.com. Splurge, or just wait for Bebe to come out with something similar!
Next, reader Dania has a question about a Mail Bombs newcomer, Keisha Knight Pulliam:
She says, "Can you tell me who designs the brown suede boots Keisha is rocking in this photo??"
It seems Rudy is wearing these $579 Belle by Sigerson Morrison Boots:
...get 'em at zappos.com
Now for a few wardrobe queries!
Prisca says, "I want to know where I can find a set like this..."
"...I have an event that needs me to wear a vest, and this was a creative way of doing so. Please help!"
I searched and found this event appropriate Wayne Vest Shorts Jumpsuit in Black:
Get it for $275 at www.revolveclothing.com.
Lastly, Leslie says, "Here's a picture of the dress that I bought for my 21st birthday party:"
"I was wondering what color shoes I should get?? Initially, I figured I should get black pumps however, I wanted to do something a little more creative? Any ideas???"
Hey Leslie! Boo on black! I am a strong advocate of wearing metallic shoes in almost all dressy circumstances. They're saucy, sophisticated, and neutral, so they can match virtually anything! If you want to stay safe, go with these options:
Left to Right: Charles David Gold Metallic Leather 'Kailey' sandals, $135; Guess by Marciano Okanarra Sandal, $99; Anne Klein New York Women's Afina Slide, $295.
If you, however, really want to be adventurous and 'shut it down' as Rachel Zoe would say, play with patterns or colors. A leopard or exotic print can also be pretty neutral, and a multi-tone shoe plays off the color of your dress without being too matchy matchy:
1. Jessica Simpson Women's Jinkx T-Strap Pump, $49. 2.Betsey Johnson Women's Felicia Pump, $150. 3.Report Pink Snakeprint Pumps, $55.50 4. Christian Louboutin Gold Leather Graffiti Detail 'Pigalle' pumps, $540.
Have fun and have great weekends!
I'm going to dip into a Louis Vuitton exhibit and also try to find some Parisian style.
Until then...
Bisous!

NYScene: Frye Spring 2009 Preview

Adriana here!
Last night, Frye held their Spring 2009 Preview at a private showing on Fifth Avenue. I couldn't wait to see what they had on tap, as I've noticed that the company's been edging their way more and more into the contemporary arena. And they're delivering really well.

My absolute favorites were a pair of snakeskin platforms and some flat sandals:

The flat sandals are actually hand-woven and specially made in Spain while the platforms are indeed genuine snakeskin, as confirmed by Frye rep Brittany Penebre, who was on hand to offer fantastic insight into each piece:

There were also some Frye classics in the line:

And some spring offerings for men:

The theme was sophisticated rustic, and all about classic American music--we aren't the only ones who've been thinking about album covers. They had an entire wall covered in them!

Check out Frye's current fall offerings on their site and look out for the spring line when it debuts in stores in March 2009!

Hot! or Hmm..: Kanye's New Look

There's quite a bit of men's style today on The Fashion Bomb, and everyone's been talking about Kanye West's different look in the promo pics for his 808s & Heartbreak album, dropping later this year:

I rock with Kanye tough. And I love a style risk-taker. I'm going to go out on a limb (and I might be the only one) and say this is Hot in a Hmm-ish way just because I think Kanye's too smart to debut this look without having a (dope) plan behind it. Something tells me the nerd-chic steez might have a lot to do with the album's music (and its title).

Art Bomb: Pharrell for Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin

Hey!
So when I heard music impresario Pharrell was having an art exhibit at a Parisian gallery, I had to find it!
With a little sleuthwork, I discovered his exhibit was at Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin:
...a small unassuming spot in the 3rd arrondissement. I quickly found his exhibit:
And it ended up just being one room with four chairs in vibrant colors:
According to the press release, " The shape of the seat is inspired by the 'Eames chair', with two sets of legs: those of a man and those of a woman. Pharrell diverted examples of classical furniture and updated them with his vision of style with intense colors and sensual material."
So on top of his Billionnaire Boys Club and Ice Cream clothing lines as well as his Blason and Millionnaire jewelry and sunglasses collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Pharrell is also dipping his toe into the furniture realm.
I've always been more of an Ikea gal, but could see my tiny apartment singularly brightened up by this yellow chaise:
What do you think?
Bisous!
~Thanks Kim!
*Look, Kanye blogged about it too!

You Should Know: Wendel Johnston

So the chill has definitely set it, and if you're a guy, you might be a bit confused as to what you can rock to differentiate yourself from the collared shirt, plain jacket masses.
For a chic look, check out jackets by Wendel Johnston:
Specializing in tailored jackets with edge, Johnston fashions hooded wool creations in colors ranging from deep brown to black, along with classics patterned jackets (think pinstripes) chic-ified with piping on lapels and pockets:
Even John Legend is a fan!

Random Thoughts: Beyoncé & Rihanna Swap Styles, Grace Jones, Robin Givhan on Sarah Palin, Next Throwback?

Remember when people accused Rihanna’s style of being too much like BeyoncĂ©’s?
Now some people are saying Bee is looking quite similar to Ri:
Does this mean we’ve come full-circle?
Off-topic, I would love to see them do a song together on some “The Boy is Mine 2009.” Not just for the song—can you imagine the video wardrobe??
Ever since Fashion Bomber Erica sent in that Grace Jones album cover, I've been obsessively watching GJ videos on the 'Tube. Especially "My Jamaican Guy":

So avant-garde and fashion-forward--GJ is underappreciated as a style icon, I think. BTW, recognize this song as the sample for another icon's sexy hip-hop classic?
I’m thinking about my next Throwback post and can’t decide what to do: Guess Jeans, Triple Fat Goose coats, or Re-Run Style?

Kidding! (on the last). But wait...hmm...Fred Berry's red, white, and green are giving me a crazy idea. Hmm! OK, I'm hyped. Off to start work on it now...
P.S. If you haven't already read it, I highly, highly recommend Robin Givhan's piece on Sarah Palin's style. As usual, Ms. Givhan is right on point (and funny) with her analysis.

Video Fun: Single Man Does Single Ladies

Hey Guys!
So I must admit: I've been playing Beyonce's Single Ladies on straight repeat for the past week!
I absolutely love the energy and catchiness of the song...and the video's great choreography and sheer simplicity only add to my 'Bey' loving experience. I caught this video while cruising hot blog Love B Scott:

Homeboy is working it, am I right? I need to figure out how to do that whine into a half split!

I recently stumbled upon a few images of Comme des Garcons' impending line for H&M. I have a love/hate relationship with what I've seen so far.
First love:
I adore classics with a twist, and these pieces would fit seamlessly into any wardrobe while maintaining a fashion forward look. And you know with Comme des Garcons you'll have interesting pockets, pleating and details (check out the jacket on the bottom right!).
Hate:
This seems very 'Gap', no? Just...not interesting.
I wonder when they'll be unleashing the furor over here in Paris. Oooh, will Parisian women be half as blood thirsty as New Yorkers?
I'll have to see...
Bisous!

Diddy Covers L'Uomo Vogue

Diddy graces the cover of the October Issue of L'Uomo Vogue:
First the all Black Italian Vogue, now an American Style Czar on the Men's Issue. Gotta give it to the Italians for taking risks and being ahead of the fashion curve.

Fashion Bomb 101: Cashmere

One of the things I look forward to most about fall is the chance to wear cashmere. It’s the perfect fabric: luxuriously soft, warm, and incredibly light. Here are some tips to help you find great cashmere and maintain it:

CASHMERE 101
WHY: Cashmere is an investment piece that lasts years (that's why it costs $150-$200 for a good sweater). The wool actually becomes softer with time, doesn’t wrinkle (great for travel), and is warm in winter, cool in spring. Also: all of the warmth and none of the bulk of a big sweater.

WHERE: Lots of off-price retailers, including Century 21, Loehmann’s, and Marshalls sell quality cashmere at a fraction of department store prices. Tip: Bloomingdales holds *the best* annual cashmere sale—expect stylish pieces at deep discounts, like this one from last year's sale:
HOW: The Stretch Test: As delicately as possible, pull and let go of the sides of the sweater. A well-knit sweater will resume its normal shape, while a poorly constructed one will not. The softer the cashmere feels, the better quality it is. 2-ply (twin layers) sweaters are considered premium.

DON'T FORGET: As one writer says, treat cashmere like your hair. Unless the care label says otherwise, hand wash it in warm water with a mild detergent (baby shampoo, Woolite, or Cashmere Wash), reshape it on a flat surface, and allow it to air dry.
Here are some fantastic cashmere finds for all wallets:

1. Old Navy Striped Cashmere Gloves, $20 2. Kashmere Red Buffalo Plaid Cashmere Scarf, $90 3, 4, 5. Missoni Cashmere Hats, $156 6. Hayden 2-ply Cashmere Tunic, $156 7. Robert Rodriguez Dolman Cardigan, $270
What other 101s (leather, makeup, vintage shopping) are you interested in getting? Leave feedback or e-mail thefashionbombintern@gmail.com!

The Williams Sisters in Harper's Bazaar

Hey! Hey!
I finally have an internet connection in my tiny studio. It's super rainy out, which means we can get to some Fashion News!
Bossip has hot pics of the Williams sister rocking couture on the court for Harper's Bazaar:
A few action shots:
Beautiful!
Has Harper's Bazaar suddenly become a dope magazine? With the Tyra cover (and the spread featuring her as Michelle Obama) and now the Williams sisters? Hats off to them for embracing diversity without a rigorous letter writing campaign.

Stars come out for Opening of Catherine Malandrino Boutique in LA

Ladies who love fashion popped into Catherine Malandrino's store opening in Los Angeles:
Keisha Whitaker represented in a draped black number, while Mary J donned a signature fur jacket, pencil skirt, and lace up black pumps. I'm looking for a new 'pump' look and am totally coveting Mary's steeze!
Also loving Sanaa's open toe shoe boots paired with a simple celery flowing dress, and Garcelle Beauvais Nilon 's comfy black maxi dress with colorful neck details.
Whose look do you love?

Claire Style: Paris

Hey Guys!
So I'm in Paris!
My Dad and I flew in on Saturday, and I'm getting busy making sure all my particulars are in order.
It's actually pretty cold here, so I popped on a soft cashmere sweater with matching wine colored boots, and topped it all off with a classic French trench.
What do you think?
Paris is going to be a struggle at first, but hey, if I can handle New York, Paris should (hopefully) be a piece of cake!
Bisous!

Hot! or Hmm...:BET Awards

Hey!
So plenty of fashion notables made their way to my hometown of the A for the BET Hip Hop Awards.
For awards shows, you can always count on people flaunting their best. But you tell me: Are they Hot! or Hmmm...
Kerry Washington represented in a thigh skimming cap sleeved number with baroque details and minimalist silver jewelry...
...a sleek look, though not a knock out for consistent style czar Kerry Washington. Even she looks like she's going "Hmm..."
Keri Hilson rocked it out in a leopard patterned sweetheart strapless dress accented with a chunky necklace, big earrings, and stacked bracelets...
Hot! for stepping out the box with the outfit, but the ankle boots make me go hmmm...
A few hip hop greats represented...
...Fifty gets his grown man on in a plaid jacket and vest, and Russell rocking Obama is definitely hot!
And lastly, Pharrell and Ciara popped up...
Pharrell can do no wrong, and his throwback Michael Jackson esque jacket is definitely hot, as is Ciara's sleek, svelte, black zippered number with knee high boots.
But what do you think?
Bisous!

Stylish Album Covers: Your Picks!

After our piece on classic stylish album covers last week, we asked you all to send in your suggestions. Here's what you gave us!

Fashion Bomber Erica, who sent in the Grace Jones Island Life cover, adds, "The cover definitely was something that was never seen before. Holding such a statuesque posture and her glowing skin...beautiful! She took fashion to a whole new level and most of all she didn't follow anyone which makes her so original and oh so amazing!" I couldn't have put it better!

Mail Bombs: Tyra's Top, Chic Raincoats, Raven's Boots, Baby Shower Style

Cheries,
I'm piloting just for today as Mademoiselle Sulmers makes her debut in Paris. She sends virtual "Smootches!" along with a few Mail Bombs, below. Let's get to it!

Fashion Bomber Tonia asks, "I must cop this top Tyra is wearing. Can you tell me who makes it?"

Claire investigated and found that Tyra is actually wearing this modified Mara Hoffman dress from the designer's Fall 2008 line:

Next, reader India writes, "How can I find a dress like Kelis's???"

Claire recommends any one of these options:

1. Chaiken Mini Dress, $130 2. Tibi Shift Dress, $200 3. Taylor Eyelet Shift, $55
From Tolu we have: "I'm a college student looking for a rain coat (preferably hooded) that's cute and inexpensive. Any suggestions?"
Fall's a good time to get your rain gear on point. Here are a few ideas that hopefully fit your budget:

1. Andrew Marc Silver Hooded Rain Jacket, $135, 2. Aqua Cropped Waterproof Jacket (with hood), $42 3. Hilary Radley Belted Rain Coat, $90,
FB'er Tyi e-mails, "I would kill for the boots Raven is rocking! It's harder to find knee and thigh boots for thick chicks. Can you please help me out?!"

One of the go-to places online to find stylish specialty shoes is Zappos. Not only can you search by size, style, width, and color (all at once), but their inventory is endless and shipping is free (even if you decide to return your shoes). Check out these fabulous boot selections that accommodate fuller legs:

1. Bouquets Wide Calf Boots, $94 2. Stuart Weitzman Best Boots, $263 3. RSVP Elana Boot, $154
FB Mom-to-be Cleona writes, "My baby shower is in November and I have nothing to wear. I want a look that's cute and sexy that will still compliment my growing belly and figure. Any ideas?"
Congrats! As for baby shower outfits, I really like these pieces from Liz Lange Maternity for Target and Gap Maternity:

1. Gap Tie-Front Dress, $58 2. Liz Lange for Target Ribbed Empire Dress, $30 3. Liz Lange for Target 3/4 Sleeve Wrap Dress, $30 4. Gap Ruffle-Neck Dress, $78
Finally, Nicole asks, "I want to inquire about the sunglasses that Will Smith wore to the Secret Life of Bees premiere. I've looked everywhere and can't find out who makes them."

We couldn't find the designer, either, but here are some shades similar to the ones Will sported:

1. Yves Saint Laurent 2218S Sunglasses, $205 2.D&G 6016 Sunglasses, $139
That's a wrap for Mail Bombs!
bon weekend,
Adriana

NYScene: Levi's Fall/Holiday Preview

Last night, after an incredible talk by frequent New York Times Style section contributor Caroline Weber on her Marie Antoinette book, Queen of Fashion (a must-read for fashion history lovers), at designer Charles Nolan's studio, I headed over to the Levi's Fall/Holiday Preview at the Levi's store near Union Square:

Hosted by Fashion Bomb sponsor Glam Media, The Fashion Bomb and some of your other favorite style bloggers got an opportunity to try on Levi's new fall styles amidst decadent champagne and cupcakes:

My favorite jeans hands down were Levi's Reissued 1966 Skinny Jeans from their Orange Tab line. Made from incredibly soft Italian denim, and with a slight high-waisted fit, they had that broken-in feeling that normally takes jeans about 4-5 washes to achieve. I copped a pair on the spot. I came thisclose to another purchase:
But then gave myself my own Hmm...check in the end!
I also got to chat with fellow fashion bloggers Ehmonie (from What's Haute), and Tracy and Tatiana from Lavish Magazine:

Premium denim, champagne, and fashion talk...not a bad night out!

Hot! or Hmm..: Keyshia Cole, Mel. B., The Simmons Sisters

Quite a few Hot or Hmms this Thursday morning:

Keyshia Cole celebrated her birthday the other night in this zippered, cap-sleeved, pink Herve Leger mini-dress. Crystal studded jewelry and a sleek hairdo set off her sexy, feminine look. But not sure about that peek-a-boo bra, hmm...
Over at Tuesday night's MOBO (Music of Black Origins) awards in London, Mel B. and Estelle rocked two eye-catching looks. Mel B. rocks a futuristic pink silk dress with crystal accents and silver pumps, while Estelle sports a strapless, bubble-hem frock from Giles's Spring 2009 collection with black ankle boots. There are some elements of Hot but quite a bit of Hmm going on here. I do like that both these ladies frequently take fashion risks, though.

And Vanessa and Angela Simmons, seen here attending Crispin & Basilo's Spring 2009 runway show in L.A. earlier this week, are rep'ing their usual casual-chic style: Angela in a red satin number with a sweetheart bustline and a tutu skirt, Vanessa in simple leggings with a white tunic and cinched black leather belt. I feel more Hot than Hmm here but maybe I'm biased because I usually enjoy the Simmons sisters's young and fresh style.
Thoughts, FB'ers?
P.S. For those of you who asked which designer yesterday's Hot or Hmm (Beyoncé) was wearing, we're pleased to report that La Knowles-Carter was wearing a bodysuit from Etro's Fall 2008 RTW line.

Fashion News Roundup: Chanel in Central Park, More '90s Trends, Last Night's Red Carpet

WWD reports today that the long-awaited Chanel Mobile Art pavilion will open in NYC's Central Park this coming Monday, October 21. The pavilion features installations that revolve around Chanel's iconic 2.55 bag (below) by 18 different artists, and you'll even be able to buy limited edition 2.55s at the exhibition. As both a Chanel and art lover, I cannot wait to see this! Pics of the venue below, and get the full scoop over at WWD.com.
As we reported a few weeks ago, the '90s are back full force this fall and that means we'll probably see ALL of the trends (good and bad) again in some form, including these bubble-gum Doc Martens featured over at Essence.com:

I loved my black Docs when I had them back in the day but this might be a little too 90's...hmmm....
Over in Santa Monica, the 2008 Spirit of Life Awards dinner was held in honor of music executive Doug Morris's charitable work, and the stars came out in their best. Rihanna, Akon, Robin Thicke, and Toni Braxton all brought the fresh to the red carpet:

Rihanna can rarely do wrong fashion-wise, can she? Love it.

Hot! or Hmm..: Beyonce at TRL

One of our favorite trendsetters, Beyonce, hit up TRL yesterday to promote her upcoming double-disc album I Am:

Wearing slouchy, patent leather platform boots and a strapless black catsuit with a tutu-like beaded skirt, Mrs. Knowles-Carter looks both sexy and cute in an outfit that made me go a little "Hmm..." at first but the more I look at it, the more I think "Hot!"
Agree or disagree?

4 Must Stop Shops in New York City

Hey Lovelies!
So I'm off to Paris tomorrow morning!
While the thought of going abroad with nothing but a dream is pretty terrifying, what's really nutso is the thought of packing up all my stuff! All my shoes, coats, bags, and dresses can't go with me..blame New York!
New York has some of the best shopping in the world, and I'm going to miss my 4 favorite must stop shops:
1. Barney's Co-Op:
Barney's is far from cheap, but I go there regularly to be inspired by cutting edge designs by Marc by Marc Jacobs, 3.1. Phillip Lim, Opening Ceremony, Madison Marcus, Alexander Wang and more. I dip in to drool over the displays, but stay shopping on that sale rack! It's gotten so bad, I even made up a system to remember the cross streets (187 for 18th and 7th ave!).Check it out at 236 West 18th Street. 212-716-8816.
2. Fisch for the Hip:
Right down the street from Barney's Coop, you'll find Fisch for the Hip, the only consignment store in New York you need to know. Why? They exclusively carry current season high end designs from Balengiaga, Bottega Veneta , Cavalli, Chanel, Dior, Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci, Hermes and more. And they make it clear: no pleats, no double breasted jackets, or sweaters that aren't the softest cashmere! Ladies listen: this is where you go to buy your Louboutins for less. You'll still pay a pretty penny, but know you're getting quality. Guys, you're covered too. 153 W 18th St. (212) 633-9053
3. Pieces:

If you're in Brooklyn y'all should know by now that Pieces is the only place you have to go! From flirty dresses to more buttoned up fashion week looks, Pieces has everything you need, with prices that go from affordable ($140 for a dress) to pearl clutching ($500 for a see through sheer shirt). No matter what, though, Pieces is the bomb. And trust: I'm taking everything I bought from Pieces with me! 671 Vanderbilt, Brooklyn. www.piecesofbklyn.com.
4. Lounge
Anytime I need that fire pair of boots, or a cute pair of unique sandals, I only go to Lounge in Soho. Bypass the blaring music on the first floor, and go straight to the basement, where you'll find a well edited selection of shoes by United Bamboo, Miss Sixty, Anna Sui, and Report Signature. 593 Broadway. 212-519-5618.
What are you favorite shops in NYC?
Smootches!
*Did I mention how much I'm gonna miss it????

Music Bomb: Favorite Stylish Album Covers

Style and music naturally go together, and few places is that synergy at work more than in an artist's album cover. Like videos, album covers are used to express the artist's visual interpretation of their work.
Here, for your consideration, are some all-time stylish classics in the album cover game:

Guy, The Future (1990): No group personified New Jack Swing more than Guy since they effectively created the genre. With hits like "Teddy's Jam 2," "Let's Chill," and "Wanna Get With You," the gentlemen's butter-soft leathers (a '90s must-have), shades, and hi-top fades were an emblem of their signature hip-hop meets R&B style. Classic.

Mary J. Blige, My Life (1994): While What's the 411? introduced her to the world, My Life was the first glimpse into the personal Mary we would all come to know and grow with for the next almost fifteen years. Instead of her trademark sunglasses, Mary's eyes are shaded by a then-trendy leather newsboy cap and it, along with her big hoop earrings, blond braids, and the moody black & white photography set the tone for the album's personal and emotional journey.

Michael Jackson, Thriller (1984): Seven top ten hits. Over 40 million records sold. Videos that revolutionized the music video genre (and sparked the craziest red leather jacket trend we've ever seen). In fact, most people assume that MJ wore his infamous red leather jacket on the album cover when in fact he sports this casual white suit and black silk shirt. Thriller was made especially to catapult MJ into superstar status, and the cover's image of a star reclining and at ease with his swagger was intended to convey just that.

Outkast, ATLiens (1996): Consistently ranked on top album covers of all time lists, ATLiens's distinctive, comic book-like cover gives you a glimpse into the futuristic, p-funk-inspired turn that Outkast's music and image took with this album. I love how detailed it is, especially the little things: the bunching of Big Boi's varsity jacket, the folds in Andre 3000's turban, and how it simultaneously manages to express both their individual styles and vision as a group.

Diana Ross, Silk Electric (1982): More modern art than album cover, Miss Ross's signature mane and sultry, confident gaze are rendered in a portrait by Andy Warhol that captures the energy and style of the early 1980s (and it's the album with "I want muscles!").

Do I even need to break it down for this one?
There are TONS I couldn't include (Beyonce's Dangerously In Love, LL Cool J's Mama Said Knock You Out, and Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, for starters). Send in your favorites (or any you think I missed) and why to thefashionbombintern@gmail.com and I'll post some on Friday!

Top Model Spinoff: Operation Fabulous

Can't get enough of the 'Jays' on ANTM? Well the CW network plans to debut a show called "Operation Fabulous", where the pair travel around the country offering makeovers to fashion neophytes...
The Hollywood Reporter says, "In various towns, the duo will select five participants and give them "Top Model"-style overhauls -- how to dress, wear their hair and makeup and bring out their confidence with the support of family, friends and their community." This sounds like a more...flamboyant What not to Wear (which I love), and I must admit, those two make great TV. Will you be watching Operation Fabulous?

Random Obsession: J.Crew Totes

J.Crew has been stepping up their accessories game lately, and these $298 Quilted Patent Leather Quincy Hobos are no exception...
I'm loving the colors...the unexpected pop could set off any outfit.

Real Style: Florida

Hey!
So it's my last week here in the states! I have sooo much to take care of...and it doesn't help that my clothes don't easily fit into four suitcases! While I try to edit everything down, Christina of the blog Purple Glamour wrote me the following:
"I am a recent college grad, relocating to the NY Metro area in the near future from Tampa, FL to pursue a career in fashion journalism. I have always been known as the fashionista among my friends because I am not afraid to take chances and I love to dress up for any occasion...
....I have enclosed a recent photo of me at a dinner party. Do you think I have "Real Style?"
Of course! I'm loving those shoes.
What do you guys think?
Smootches!
PS Check out Christina's blog at www.purple-glamour.blogspot.com.

Alice +Olivia for Payless

Nitrolicious offers pictures of Alice + Olivia's Fall '08 collection for Payless...
I'll admit: For $48, a peep toe, a pop of patent leather, and 4.5" heel, they're super duper cute, but I'm not sure I can get down for Payless. I have a friend who swears her most comfortable shoes are from there, but with all my foot problems, I'm pretty wary. Can anyone testify?

Cosmo Girl is Dunzo

WWD reports that teen magazine CosmoGirl is closing with the December issue being the last.
The article says, “The subscriber base will be folded into fellow Hearst title Seventeen.” Are magazines done for? Unofficial poll: how many of you still subscribe to magazines? If so, which ones?
I honestly had to cancel my subscription to Vogue..too heavy, too much stuff, too out of touch (with their 'Is Fashion Racist' nonsense)...what do you still subscribe to?

"Emo for Obama" and Other Fantastic Election Buttons

No matter which candidate you're leaning towards this election, no one can deny that sometimes we all need a mood lifter. I found a good one the other day, and was entertained for quite a while looking through these hilarious and original Obama campaign buttons. Take a look at some of the best (and just plain silly) ones:

And my personal favorite (and for any Office Space fans out there):

But hey, no "Fashionistas for Obama?" We vote, too!
Pick up these great buttons and others at Democratic Stuff.

Mail Bombs: Rihanna's Plaid Jacket + Alicia's Military Look

Hey!
So life has been super busy with my impending move, but Mail Bombs of course take priority!
Let's go!
First Deja says, "I just love this plaid jacket Rihanna is wearing and I'm positive that its very expensive..."
"...Could you find something similar on a college girl's budget?"
So Adriana found that Rihanna is wearing this $325 L.A.M.B. Draped Collar Blazer...
..expensive, so if you'd like an alternative, go with these:
1. Aqua Women's 3/4 Sleeve Plaid Jacket, $128. 2. Priorities Green Plaid Emma Jacket, $99.
In another Rihanna Mail Bomb, Mariah says, "Rihanna recently wore this jacket to T.I.'s Myspace Music Concert..."
"...Do you know who the designer is and where I could find a similar leather jacket for a lower price?"
Stuntin is a habit for Rihanna, as Adriana found that she's wearing this $890 Mike & Chris Lambskin Nathan Jacket...

Get a similar look with these lower priced options:
1. Aqua Women's Hooded Leather Jacket, $298. 2. Theory Women's "Juna" Hooded Leather Jacket, $525. 3. Soia & Kyo Kymia Jacket, $375.
Crystal says, "The coat that Alicia Keys is rocking in the following picture is a must!"
"...I'm lovin her whole outfit, the coat, the boots, the hat.... but the coat is a must have. Can you post some more affordable versions of it (as I'm sure it must cost a fortune)?"
Mimic Alicia's Military steeze with these high and low priced coats:
1. Burberry Wool Coat, $1,495. 2. City Style Wool Captain's Coat, $91. 3. BCBGMAXAZRIA Women's Melton Luxe Military Coat, $595.
Next, Tola says, "Where can I get this dress or something similar!"
"..It is TOOO FAB!"
Adriana recommends emulating J. Lo's Dolce & Gabbana frock...
...with this $242 Guy Baxter Julia Dress...
Lastly, Devin says, "I found this belt on Christina Milian's promo pic that I absolutely loved."
"...I actually love the entire look, but I would love to know where I can get a belt like that?"
Adriana found these options:
1.
