We also cannot excuse the wherewithal of the team behind producing such an image. These people are creators of popular culture. They are well aware of American history and the atrocities of racism. Their ivy league educations and their degrees in marketing, publishing, art & design, etc. have exposed them to media representation and art history. That cover is not a product of coincidence. It is intentional and deliberate. I am beyond disappointed.Charléhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07893480515596612960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33542856.post-51308708288654424402008-03-20T16:02:00.000-04:002008-03-20T16:02:00.000-04:00Givhan's comment makes no sense. Black rappers put out a constant stream of questionable images of black women in videos and thinking people scrutinize them all--it's the overall lack of balance in representation that is the issue. It has nothing to do with whether Vogue puts more people of color on their covers but rather with how each individual image communicates. It's a cliche, but truly, if you don't know your past you don't know your future.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33542856.post-3397530286320128462008-03-20T12:37:00.000-04:002008-03-20T12:37:00.000-04:00I'm torn--really.Not everything is about race, but...I'm torn--really.
Not everything is about race, but then again everything is about race. Perhaps the cover director had this image in his head, subconsciously, that might've been totally innocent. THEN AGAIN, in this age when we can't elect a President without discussing race, I feel that everyone needs to be more sensitive about images and what they signify.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33542856.post-73693530132401303622008-03-20T12:28:00.000-04:002008-03-20T12:28:00.000-04:00I can't believe they are trying to make this Vogue...I can't believe they are trying to make this Vogue cover thing a race issue... not cool!

This is such a fun cover, a bit cliche...but nowhere near racist!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33542856.post-52141721437086517262008-03-20T11:05:00.000-04:002008-03-20T11:05:00.000-04:00Where was Andre Leon Tally when the cover photo fo...Where was Andre Leon Tally when the cover photo for Vogue was being decided?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33542856.post-52039688357615141402008-03-20T09:19:00.000-04:002008-03-20T09:19:00.000-04:00Constance is beautiful, as well as your post.Constance is beautiful, as well as your post.Girl-Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00662708169074583826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33542856.post-83231963395908618032008-03-20T08:03:00.000-04:002008-03-20T08:03:00.000-04:00Constance White is beautiful, sophisticated and ex...Constance White is beautiful, sophisticated and exudes confidence.
