The Fashion Bomb Celebrates: Gordon Henderson

Today’s Black History Holleration goes to Gordon Henderson, a designer with a reputation for creating supreme quality, clean cut sportswear.

A native of Berkeley, California, Henderson, like many others, studied at Parson’s School of Design. After years of designing and assisting for Calvin Klein, Henderson launched his own line in 1990. He won the Council of Fashion Designers Perry Ellis award for best new talent.

Henderson was huge in the 80’s, and was featured prominently in articles, journals, and magazines. He gained notice in 1996 as the designer of the blue suit worn by the late John F. Kennedy Jr. during his wedding to the late Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, a former Calvin Klein publicist and a friend of Henderson's. What's up with the Kennedy family and black designers? I mean it's cool and all...
Anyway, one more interesting tidbit: Tracey Reese counts Gordon Henderson as an important mentor who advised her in forming her start up line. It’s great to have mentors, isn’t it?
Gordon now makes made to measure and ready to wear cashmere pieces, and also has a men's tailored line.
A flute of champagne to Gordon Henderson!
