Trend Talk: Marigold

Happy Wednesday!
So as you may know, I love the color yellow!
And while pale yellow is the perfect summer go to--complementing many skin tones and brightening up any look--the winter calls for a richer, deeper shade that I'll call marigold.
The color--a mixture of yellow, gold, and mustard--has been popping up on celebrities of late, whether on the red carpet or out and about.
Let's take a look:
Beauties Vanessa Williams and Rachel Roy both literally light up formal events in strapless deep yellow frocks....

Celeb party girls Nicole Richie...
and Kim Kardashian....
...make the look club ready in thigh skimming, body clinging dresses.
The look can be adapted for work by throwing on a fitted jacket like Vanessa Simmons...
...or winterized with a long wool jacket, a la Meagan Good...
..it's a good look.
Brighten up your winter wardrobe with the following 'Marigold' items:

What to Wear...to Trial

"Coulda copped to a one to three do/Still took it to trial, even though I blew/Crooklyn style, that's how we do it/Ill gangsters and ain't got to prove it..." Lil Kim "Whoa"
So with all the Hollywood bad girls doing wrong lately (DUI's, shootings, slappings of maids and manicurists), I thought it intriguing to look at how a star's style changes once they're in the court room, fighting for their freedom. The once outrageous and in your face suddenly become demure, upstanding...and dare I say even classy? Let's take a look:
When out on the town, Nicole Richie favors dresses in loud, bright colors to offset her hair and skin tone....

...and has no problem flashing her legs in short cocktail frocks. But she left her psychadelic, bright tendencies at home when on trial recently for DUI...

...going for a Jackie O aesthetic with a black collared shift, matching black status bag, and face obscuring, shame hiding shades. All excess was abridged, as if to say, "I'm a good girl now!"
Cell phone chucker Naomi Campbell similarly switched it up when en route to court. She normally has no problem strutting her stuff in short frocks in fun feathers and sequins...

...but looked like she could be no the corporate payroll when she went to court in January 2007 for assault...

...rocking a reserved shift, black jacket, stockings, and mary jane pumps. I must give it to her, she still kept it painfully chic in her blunt banged haircut and large black shades. Naomi C keeps it fierce at all times!
I hate to admit it, but cantakerous manicurist hating Foxy Brown holds it down as well. She loves bright colors...

...patterns...

...and deep, deep bra exposing v's...

...and opted for a buttoned up version during her trial for assault earlier this year. She looked fly in bright colored tops that buttoned at the neck, knee length skirts, tweed suits, and stillettos...

...all accented with fashionable Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Fendi bags.
While everyone cleans up for court, few transformations are as glaring as Lil Kim, whose style we looked at yesterday. She looks slutacious in most situations....

But appeared in court for her July 2005 perjury accusation looking like a secretary! She rocked stale khaki pant suits...

Tailored jackets...

...and gray skirt suits covered with fur trimmed coats...

...fit for a church mouse!

Trend Talk: High Waisted Heaven?

Hey guys,
So this trend of high waisted jeans has been around for a minute now...and though it initially seemed atrocious beyond words, it doesn't seem to be going away. Perhaps I've been brainwashed, but a few celebs lately have been able to pull the look off...or do they? Let's take a look:

Beyonce is gorgeous, yes, but are her jeans? She rocks a high waist with what looks like a House of D t and suspenders...

Ciara also favors suspenders, and balances the high waist with a short shirt...

Ships ahoy! Genevieve Jones prefers the sailor look...

J. Lo keeps it sassy and sexy in sleek skinny high waisted jeans and stilettos...

And Nicole Richie takes a risk in Sass& Bide high waisted cut offs with a tank tucked in.
Interesting.
If you're brave enough, try these items:

Top Row: Lux High Waisted Skinny Jean, $68, www.urbn.com; Sass & Bide High Waist Short Shorts, $238, www.intermix.com.
Bottom Row: Theory Lacey B Short Skirt, $175, shopbop.com
High Waisted Denim Sailor Pant, $148, www.ardenb.com.
So what do you think? Will you make haste to buy high waist?
Smootches!
PS. Quick survey: Have you ever purchased anything you saw on The Fashion Bomb? If so what? When? Did you love it!?!? E-mail me at thefashionbomb@gmail.com and let me know!

Style File: Nicole Richie

"I'm a d-boy they decoy/They money is lighter/Than Nicole Richie/Roll with me/They on a diet, baby..." Jay-Z, "Anything"
So now that this Hollywoord Starlet is allegedly with child and delaying her trial for a DUI charge...I thought it timely (and only right) to take a look at the style of notoriously skinny super socialite...

...Nicole Richie.
She might sport a blonde mane and hang with Paris Hilton, but she's still a sista! Homegirl has come a long way over the past few years.
Anyone who watched The Simple Life can see a marked improvement in her look.
Ms. Richie went from multicolored ratty tendrils...

...and ill fitting clothes...

....to a certified grade "A" fashionista replete with a chic haircut and hot clothes to boot (I'm sure her former stylist Rachel Zoe had something to do with it, but I digress).
For nights out, Nicole brings it in bold colored, body flattering dresses..

...straight shooting strapless numbers...

...and mod frocks in cute psychadelic prints...

In her downtime, she keeps it super casual in plain t's, tanks, and skinny jeans, but distinguishes her look with hot accessories like hippie-esque large glasses...

...head and neck scarves...

...large, statement bags...

...with a jumper thrown in for good measure.

Cute!
Want her look? Start with these items:

Top Row: Chloe Sunglasses, $275, www.aloharag.com; Cotton Crinkled Oblong Scarf, $24, www.urbn.com.
Bottom Row: Swirl Print Tie Back Dress, $102, CoutureCandy
Rebecca Minkoff Elisha Bag, $591, shopbop.com
Smootches!
PS Still don't think she's cute? Remember the good old days....

...awwwwww!
PSS Thanks to www.dlisted.com for the throwback pic!
