Hey!
So a friend recently put me onto Barefoot Tess, an online store with women's shoes in large sizes like 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15:
I know I've gotten Mail Bombs before asking for online resources for women with above average shoe sizes. I recommended Zappos, Beverly Feldman, and now you have Barefoot Tess!

NYScene: Frye Spring 2009 Preview
Adriana here!
Last night, Frye held their Spring 2009 Preview at a private showing on Fifth Avenue. I couldn't wait to see what they had on tap, as I've noticed that the company's been edging their way more and more into the contemporary arena. And they're delivering really well.
The flat sandals are actually hand-woven and specially made in Spain while the platforms are indeed genuine snakeskin, as confirmed by Frye rep Brittany Penebre, who was on hand to offer fantastic insight into each piece:
There were also some Frye classics in the line:
And some spring offerings for men:

The theme was sophisticated rustic, and all about classic American music--we aren't the only ones who've been thinking about album covers. They had an entire wall covered in them!
Check out Frye's current fall offerings on their site and look out for the spring line when it debuts in stores in March 2009!

Paris Fashion Week: Les Shoes
Coco Chanel famously remarked that fashion begins from the bottom up. While the bottom she referred to was the streets, for this post we're going to reinterpret it to mean the shoes (I think CC would understand and even encourage it), oui?
Instead of our usual, clothes-focused show review (and because I've got a *serious* shoe itch this week), we're going to do something a little different and round-up of some of the fabulous shoes featured in last week's Spring 2009 Paris shows. The Fashion Bomb gives you:
Chanel: playful and feminine, with touches of maribou, lace, sheer. A very 1940s feel, no?
Louis Vuitton: tribal and eye-catching. Shoes like these MUST be the focal point of your outfit in order to pull them off.
Givenchy: I can't take my eyes off the green metallic pump. Just fierce.
Christian Dior: What do you think of the fertility doll heels that caught everyone's eye? Hmmm... Viktor & Rolf: One of my favorite designers, they didn't disappoint with distinctive, funky shoes.
Giambattista Valli: modern and sexy. The platform soles remind me of my beloved Marni from two seasons ago.
Christian Lacroix: full of bows and charms, like wearing treats on your feet.
Yves Saint Laurent: a bit high-concept. The ankle-strap ones are growing on me the more I look at them, though. Dries Van Noten: another of my faves, these shoes deviate a bit from his normal minimalist style and have a bit of a tribal feel, too.
Favorites? Disappointments? Weigh in!

Throwback: Reebok Freestyle Hi-Tops
Call 'em "classics," "female Air Force Ones," or the now-infamous "54-11's", the Reebok Freestyle Hi-Top can be summed up in just one word: iconic. As a teenage girl in uptown NYC, especially, no sneaker was more definitve, and no fashion trend more beloved. And oh, the colors--sky blue, mustard, hot pink, and even the rumored, holy grail shade of chocolate (which I never confirmed really existed) were among the many hues one could stunt in.
The Freestyle, designed as an aerobic exercise shoe, debuted in April 1982 and became popular both for its sleek design and for being one of the first athletic shoes specifically made for women. It celebrated its 25th birthday in 2007 with not only its own site, but also a line of Freestyles inspired by various influences (like artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, below).
Even Paris's über-hip concept shop Collette teamed up with Reebok and streetwear line Married to the Mob to deliver their own interpretation:
Recently, supermodel Agyness Deyn designed her own group of limited edition Freestyles and there were, of course, those "Reeboks with the straps" immortalized in Flo Rida's "Get Low" (is there anything more fitting for the ultimate Around the Way Girl shoe?).
Craving some Freestyles now (the 90s are back, after all)? Look no further:
1. Punk Freestyle, $45 2. Neon Blue Freestyle, $65 3. Pink and Gold Freestyle, $63 4. Hi Evol Musi Freestyle, $70 5. Snowflake Freestyle, $60
What are some of your Freestyle memories? Favorite colors?

Cute Fashionable Sneakers
So,
I went to my podiatrist the other day who informed me that I could stop hobbling around with a bandaged left foot (yay!), and could finally upgrade....to sneakers (boo!).
Horrible, I know.
I had high high hopes that I could at least wear pretty ballet flats after my surgery, but he wouldn't budge! "Sneakers," he said, "nothing more, nothing less." [As an aside the nurses, etc, are probably so fed up with me for always asking for fashionable socks and a cuter boot! But I digress..]
Obviously, as a fashion obsessed chick, I immediately took to looking for chic sneakers...styles that would actually look OK with work outfits or even *gasp* skirts and dresses. High tops are fine for a younger set, but a grown woman can't walk around the office with pastel sneaks!
I found these neutral options:Top Row: Diesel Sport Women's Ballerikah Slip-on Fashion Sneaker, $80, www.endless.com; Vans KVD 46, $46, zappos.com
Lacoste Lyndon Dotty, $80, www.jildor.com.
Bottom Row: Converse by John Varvatos Chuck Taylor Laceless Sneakers, $95, www.saks.com; Puma Mostro Perf Shoes, $100, www.nordstrom.com; Nike Sunyassi, $79, zappos.comIf I wanted to amp up the edge, I could do so in bright colors or metallics:
But that seems a bit over the top!
*The Genevieve kiss mystery has been solved! Reader 'Courtesy of Moi' wrote in saying, "The guy with the braids is a twin. Their names are Ricky and Dee Jackson..."
"...They did the lego belts for Marc Jacobs' collection a while back."
Ohhh, ok. Anything cool with Marc is cool with me! Seems like they were long overdue for their Fashion Bomb debut! Check out Dee & Ricky on their webbie, www.deeandricky.com.*The Chicago Tribune on the controversial Vogue cover. [Chicago Tribune]

*There's a pretty huge entry in today's Women's Wear Daily Memopad section on the Vogue cover controversy. Fashion Bomb favorite Bethann Hardison weighed in on the conversation, saying, "Every photograph that they've put of a dark person in recent years has never been good. Jennifer Hudson has her mouth wide open. LeBron James had his mouth wide open. We have other expressions." Another great quote is from Helena Andrews, a culture editor for the website www.Politico.com who says, "It brings up the question of whether people are asking these questions in the editorial meeting of doing the sorts of images that conjure up those sorts of [feelings]. It's clear no one raised their hand during the editorial meeting and said, 'Wait a minute.'" Good point. If you have something to say, why not write a letter to Vogue? They publish them every month. Put pen to paper and mail to 4 Times Square, New York, NY 10036. OR e-mail them at talkingback@vogue.com (include your daytime phone number). Put all those college degrees to good use.
