Pop on a Frock: Spotlight on Anthropologie

"See the pretty girl in that mirror there?/Who can that attractive girl be?/Such a pretty face/Such a pretty dress/Such a pretty smile/Such a pretty me!"--Natalie Wood as Maria, West Side Story

So...
It's slowly yet surely starting to warm up. The weather this week in NYC projects to be in the 50's (Huzzah!) with Tuesday and Wednesday reaching a coat-shedding 60 degrees. In preparation for the warming temps, I stopped at one of my fav shops Anthropologie...

...to see what they had in store.
Anthro typically has feminine, French-inspired pieces whose pricetags can elicit a cocktail of sticker shock and cardiac arrest. On my recent trip, however, I was pleased as punch to find that not only were there plenty of spring ready dresses...but they weren't all $300!!!
So much of what I saw was so pleasantly pretty, I felt it only right to compile my favorite frocks under $150.
Feast yer eyes:

Clockwise from left: Carlota Dress, $148; Toile Bandeau Dress, $148; Seedling Halter Dress, $118; Cubism Dress, $118; Coloratura Dress, $128; Harissa Dress, $128; Patched Halter Dress, $118; Yuma Dress, $148. Center: Seven Hills Dress, $98. All available at www.anthropologie.com.

Dresses are so easy for the summer...just slip one on, and you're set for the day. I'd rock a frock with a fashionable trench coat like this $95 Ivory Wool Peacoat by Tulle (www.shopplasticland.com)...

...Along with skyscraping shoes, like these $98 Patent Leather Open Toe Espadrilles (www.bananarepublic.com)...

Cute.
Here's to looking--and feeling--pretty!
Smootches!

Contest Winner + Friday Real Style

[R. Kelly jury selection hearing]
Dave Chappelle: Listen, lady, the burden of proof is on the state. [shouts] On the State! You have got to prove - *to me* - beyond a reasonable doubt whether or not this man is a pisser.
Prosecutor: Aren't your doubts unreasonable?
Dave Chappelle: No, it's not unreasonable. We're talking about a justice system that had 500 people whose cases were overturned by DNA evidence. I seen a tape where five cops beat up a n*gga and they said that they had a reasonable doubt. I got my doubts too! All right? How come they never found Biggie and Tupac's murderers, but they could arrest O.J. the next day. Nicole Simpson can't rap!

Hey Y'all!
So jury duty...

... was only for one day, but it was a loooong, boring affair. I'm *so* glad it's over! If you haven't served yet, I'd recommend:
1. Comfortable Clothes
2. A good, thick book...I'm reading a great one called, "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers--fab!
3. A sense of humor. Seriously.
But it's over, huzzah, and now I can retreat back into my warm fashion cocoon.
While I was gone, I received many (correct) entries for the Fashion Bomb's Contest. I had to decide the winner based on who contacted me *first*...
And the lucky recipient of the fab Boutique Finesse earrings is....Toni Wills, a self described 'Washington DC ultra fashionista,' who correctly guessed that Ciara's jeans...

..are these Grey Ant highwaisted head turners...

...available for $330 at shopbop.com

Congrats, Toni!
How exciting!
I'll end this post with The Fashion Bomb's second Real Style submission...

...from faithful reader Nora. Ms. Thing looks fly-y-y-y in a piped trench, matching bag, tights, and hot cream boots. Note the cell phone for dramatic effect. Pimpin'.
Keep your real style submissions coming!
Smootches!
PS I heard through the grapevine that Target's next Go collection designer is none other than...

...black designer Patrick Robinson. Keep your eyes peeled for his frisky frocks in Target stores this summer!

TFB's First Fashionable Contest

"Take that ish to trial, b*tch, take that ish to trial/Take that ish to trial, b*tch, take that ish to trial."--The Last Mr. Bigg, 'Trial Time'

Hey Guys,
I have jury duty today (for the first time!) so this post'll be short and quick for ya.
Reader 'I Heart NY' asked readers of TFB the following question:
"Who is the deisgner for these jeans..I was thinking Miss Sixty or Diesel??!"

I have to suppress my gag reflex when I see a pair of high waisted jeans, but...a question is a question. If you can find the answer to this query, let me know! E-mail me at thefashionbomb@gmail.com with the answer plus a link or jpeg to prove your accuracy. If you're correct, you'll get more than a warm, gushy feeling for participating!
You'll get this pair of fierce earrings...

...courtesy of the uber glamorous online jewelry store Boutique Finesse...

Happy Searching!
Smootches!
PS Here's to hoping I'm not on a long trial:(
PSS Who else remembers that Mr. Bigg song?? When I listened to it as a young'n in Georgia, it seemed a lot less...explicit. Was it just me?
