Hey!
Sex and the City is in theaters today...do you have your ticket??
Even though I saw it last night, I think I might go again with my girlfriends!
In celebration, I'm going to answer a few Sex and the City queries.
Let's get started!
Tawanda from Greenville, North Carolina writes, "Carrie Bradshaw wears these Christian Dior sandals in the Sex & the City Movie."
"Where can I find a similar pair for less?"
Girl, I loved those shoes!!
Thankfully intern Aramide stepped in and found the following lower priced options:
1. Bakers Shoes Gladys WP Sandals, $74. 2. Bakers Shoes Candice Sandal, $65. 3. ASOS Heavy Gladiator Sandals, $120. 4. Steve Madden Madalynn Black Multi Sandal, $110.
Note: Of course the Steve Madden ones are already backordered till June 24th...!
Next Bambi wanted to recreate this lovely look...
She says, "When I saw this picture, I knew I had to have it. Please please please tell me how I can get it!"
It is super cute (and great for the office!). Get her look for less with these:
1. Asos Safari Waistcoat, $61. 2. Asos Chambray Bow Mini Skirt, $51. 3. Spiegel Criss Cross Strap Sandal, $15. 4. L.A.M.B. Dominic Striped Sandal, $320. 5. Kenneth Cole New York Keyhole Tote, $239.
A few readers got in touch with requests from the actual series. RC says, "I’ve been looking for a skirt similar to this can you help me at all please."
"I absolutely love how it fits and it is a necessity and I must have it."
It's been a while since Carrie wore this on the show, so the exact silhouettes are hard to find. You can get a similar look, however, with these: 1. J.Crew Stripe Twisted Placket Shirt, $60. 2. Max Mara Skirt, $209. 3. Urban Outfitters Straw Clutch, $28.
In another throwback question, Anisha says, "I loved her accessories in this picture!"
"Can you help me get her look?"
Channel a city cute Carrie with these:
1. Disney Couture Bambi Hoops, $40. 2. Marc by Marc Jacobs Blue Floral Dress, $178. 3. Enamel Heart Necklace with Crystals, $75.4. Banana Republic Flat Iron Embossed Shoulder Bag, $125.
That does it for SATC Mail Bombs!
We had just a couple non Sex and the City related questions.
Edrei says, "I MUST have this jumper."
"...Any idea where I can find something similar?"
Adriana searched and found these:
1. Sea Pleated Front Strapless Jumper, $393. 2. Asos Shirred Cotton Jumpsuit, $48. 3. Asos Lurex All in One Harem Jumper, $61.
Lastly, Sally says, "So I was doing my usual blog browsing last night and I saw this bag Beyonce was rocking. VERY HOT!"
"If you know me then you would know that I adore handbags. If you can find something similar, you'll put a smile on my face."
I felt this $55 Kathy Van Zeeland Satchel came close...
...get it from www.macys.com.
That does it for today! Have great fun. And tell me what you thought of the movie!
Smootches!

Your Summer Work Wardrobe Guide, Part 2
Hey!
So...Sex and the City last night was *amazing*! I won't give anything at all away, but trust me, even if the plot leaves you scratching your head, the fashion makes up for it!!! It was so deep, even I have some "Mail Bombs" for that movie!
Anyway, I hope you all sip some cosmos and enjoy the show with your girlfriends this Friday. It's a fashion lover's must see!
So last week intern Adriana tackled Part 1 of the Guide to your Summer Work Wardrobe. She was fab enough to tackle Part 2 today! Enjoy!
******************************************************************
Hey FB’ers!
So last week we nailed down dresses, jackets, shoes, and accessory essentials for your summer work wardrobe. Throw in these additions for a well rounded look:
1. Tops
With tops, you want something that will work as a good base for your outfit, layer well, and still be a little eye-catching. Try for soft, breathable fabrics with little details (pleats, ties, shimmer, funky shapes, etc.) or look for new takes on a classic (J. Crew’s silver lamé Oxford-like shirt, below). Tops are a great way to liven up neutral pants and blazers, and are usually the easiest addition to your summer wardrobe both cost and space-wise. Remember to opt for a little sleeve action, at least covering your shoulders (capped or small ruffled sleeves are a great compromise):
1. Diane Von Furstenberg Carone Top, $198. 2. J.Crew Whisper Lame Shirt, $110. 3. Anne Klein Tie Front Shirt, $89. 4. Bow Tie Floral Top, $79. 5. Chiffon Ruffle Top, $22.80.
2. Skirts
Summer is the season to play with fabrics and fun silhouettes (like a bubble skirt). Knife-pleats, vivid prints, and swingy hems are great ways to add flair to a work skirt, and a high-waisted, pencil skirt with a unique detail (a bow front, cool stitching, or a wide leather sash with a side-tie just at your waist) can make for a fresh, sexy take on a classic:
1. Milly Bow Front Pencil Skirt, $137. 2. Banana Republic Linen Abstract Skirt, $62.30. 3. Forever 21 Spotted Woven Skirt, $22.80. 4. Tibi Pleated Skirt, $273.5. Tracy Reese Canvas Printed Pencil Skirt, $240.
3. Pants
Across the board, pants are by far one of the hardest items to shop for. And let’s be real: slim/skinny pants, cute as they look and “on trend” as they are, just don’t work for everyone (but we have included a few below that caught our eye). A cut I really love and that flatters almost any shape is the elegant, Hepburn-style, wide-legged trouser. It’s sexy and chic, definitely on trend, and effortlessly airy for summer days at the office and summer nights on the town!
1. Julie Haus Hi-Waist Frida Pant, $275. 2. BCBG Indigo Striped Carla Slim Flare Pant, $178. 3. Holly Herringbone Pant, $228. 4. J.Crew City Fit Italian Linen Pant, $250.
4. Handbags
And just for fun, here are a few handbag choices to go perfectly with your newly refreshed summer work wardrobe!
1.Fendi Rainbow Degrade Hobo, $1,840. 2. Zac Posen Lily Shoulder Bag, $1,050. 3. Kale Stella Bag, $475. 4. Dautore Slouchy Shoulder Bag, $471. 5. Forever 21 Sequin Weave Tote Bag, $39.80. 6. Deux Lux Pintuck Satchel, $68.
Bon Shopping!

Loved the bag selections!! Didn't Adriana do a great job??
My interns are the bomb!

Boutique Spotlight: Bellhaus
Hey!
So as promised, I wanted to give you guys the scoop on the hottest boutique to hit East Hampton.......Bellhaus.
Owned by Shawn Bell, the boutique is the first high end fashion boutique of its kind in the area, carrying extremely exclusive brands like Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, and Sonia Rykiel......along with shoes by Manolo Blahnik, Sergio Rossi, Christian Lacroix, Bruno Frissoni, and Courtney Crawford...
Fun fact: Bellhaus is the only store in the US offering the red patent leather Walter Steiger shoes Sarah Jessica Parker wears in Sex and the City. Chic!
I took a quick look around a found tons of drool worthy gems, like this deep purple Allesandro Dell'Acqua show shopper...This lovely bright yellow halter maxi dress by Kaufman Franco...
A feathered evening cocktail by Carolina Herrera....
And this simple cream and blue Jason Wu top....
The store also had men's clothes...
...sunglasses by Dita...
And hot accessories...
...I so wanted that Fendi bag, but at $2,200, it was a bit out of reach.
As you can imagine, with all those hot off the runway brands, the prices are in the stratosphere. But, it's a great place to go experience a bit of couture. And the shoes???Splurge worthy!
If you're ever in the Hamtpons, find Bellhaus at 328 Montauk Highway. Visit their site, www.bellhaus.net, for more information.

*Sex and the City's coming out on Friday, but guess who's going to a sneak preview tonight???
I'm pumped!
Now's a good a time as any to start reminiscing on the show, so I wanted to indulge in a bit of SATC trivia! As an urban fashion blog, I wanted the question to involve someone of color...unfortunately there weren't that many, so this one is a real doozy: Whoever can tell me the name of Miranda's neighbor who helped her with her baby when he was colicky...
...will win a Fashion Bomb T! Random, but hey...there weren't too many 'folks' in the series! E-mail me at thefashionbomb@gmail.com.
Update: No it wasn't Blair Underwood! Constance wrote in correctly saying, "The character's name was Kendall, played by actress Lisa Gay Hamilton." Correct! Look out for your tee!
*The actual New York Premiere was last night. A few pics:
...J Hud better work that dress!
Other Fashion Bomb celebs were in the house:
Lil Kim looks super colorful, while MJB keeps it simple in black and white...
...and Michelle Williams shines in a floor length gown, while rapper Kid Sister looks cute in a turquoise dress with red shoes.
*WWD reports that Mary J Blige, Eric Dane and Russell Simmons each have designed a limited edition Ernst Benz watch to benefit Chrysalis, the nonprofit association that helps men and women transition from poverty.
The collection, dubbed Time for Change, will offer a numbered series of 24 watches per designer in honor of Chrysalis' 24th anniversary. Fifty percent of the proceeds from each watch sold — which range from $4,000 to $22,000 — will go to Chrysalis. [WWD]

Real Style: Hamptons
Hey!
So my friends and I went to the Hamptons to celebrate Memorial Day this past weekend. Aside from enjoying the beach, sunshine, and great food, we also had to stop into the grand opening of a chic, must-visit boutique called Bellhaus (www.bellhaus.net). The shop was littered with the best dressed in the Hampton set, but this young man really stood out in a Fashion Bomb way:Turns out his name is Courtney Crawford, and he is the designer behind the pair of sky high patent leather stilettos he's holding.
Like a paparrazzo, I asked who he was wearing, and he revealed that he had on a Calvin Klein Collection suit, Du Champs Shirt, Balmain tie, Dolce and Gabbana shoes, and a vintage Hermes pocket scarf. Super sharp, but he kept it funky with his haircut.....swoon!
You can find a few of his shoes at Revolve Clothing (click here), and keep on the lookout for his website, www.courtneycrawford.com!
Smootches!
Stay tuned for a Boutique Spotlight on Bellhaus tomorrow.
*I couldn't resist! Check out a few Courtney Crawford creations:
*OK Courtney is more than a well dressed man with a handsome face! An excerpt from an article on him in Paper Mag, "In the year since he launched his line, Crawford has been busy: He won Who is on Next (a European design competition sponsored by Italian Vogue and the fashion agency Alta Roma); designed Missoni's feather-happy Spring '07 shoe collection; consulted on Morgane Le Fay's debut line; was taken under the enormous wing of Vogue's editor-at-large André Leon Talley; and so endeared himself to Karl Lagerfeld that he walked in Chanel's runway show last season. He's also managed to win over Kate Moss, Mischa Barton, Mariah Carey (in fact, he outfitted her for the entire "Emancipation of Mimi" tour) and Dita Von Teese with his shoes." Ok then! Read the rest here.
*Thanks Ken!
*LL Cool J and Sears??
You heard that right. WWD reports that LL will release a collection of casualwear for juniors, young men’s, girls and boys in September in time for back to school. The collection will retail from $22 for a graphic tee to $50 for a pair of jeans. Um, really?

Mail Bombs
Hey!
I'm off this lovely Friday before Memorial Day Weekend, so I'm making this quick!
Let's get started.
First up, reader Sheria fell in love with Christina Milian's one shoulder number...
...she says, "Can you please help me find her look!?!"
I thought the following frocks gave off a Christina M essence:1. Aqua Women's One Shoulder Dress, $78, www.bloomingdales.com. 2. Ella Moss Black Label Samantha Dress, $268, www.shopbop.com. 3. Laundry by Design One Shoulder Short Dress, $164, www.bloomingdales.com.
In another Christina Milian Mail Bomb, Natasha says, "I have a family get together coming up in New York and I really want to wear this dress to dinner..."
".. .I searched and found out that its made by H&M but they don't have it anymore. Can you please help I'm in desperate need!!"
Sure. The closest thing I could find was this BCBG Strapless Jacquard Dress...
...it could work with some tailoring! Get it for $320 at www.saks.com.
Nyasha from Georgia writes, "I am desperately trying to find an affordable short sleeved leather jacket and everywhere I look the price is pretty astronomical. I've seen Rihanna rocking a black one lately but cannot afford it...."
"Please Please Please help me, I'm heading back up to the northeast soon and its still a little chilly here and there. I would like to be fashionably comfortable. Please help I'm desperate for one of these jackets!!!"
A fashion emergency indeed, huh? Well you're right, most cropped leather jackets are a bit pricy. Lucky you, I found some options under $300:1. Pepe Short Sleeved Leather Jacket, $300, www.asos.com. 2. Leather Moto Jacket, $98, www.ardenb.com. 3. Cropped Leather Jacket, $129, www.newportnews.com.
Finally, some Fashion Bomb Real Style subjects were getting lots of inquiries from readers!
Tia says, "I think her pants are so cute in this pic!!""...Can you please help me find some???"
The closest thing I could find were these $395 Wide Jodphur pants...
...from www.emporioarmani.com. Apparently there's a cheaper version at H&M. Log onto www.hm.com for store locations.
Several people wrote in admiring this young lady's ruffle top:
Turns out she's wearing none other than this $260 Thread Social Ruffle Knit Double Top...
...from www.intermixonline.com.
And lastly a reader wrote in a comment to my JC Report Relaunch Party Post. She says, "I couldn't help but notice the young lady to your right..."
"... Her dress is to DIE for (well for me anyway)! Where can I get this?"
Miss Meghan is so fashionable! She's wearing this Cynthia Rowley V-Neck Silk Taffeta Dress...
...get it at www.cynthiarowley.com.
That does it!
Have fun, long, luxurious weekends!

Breaking into Fashion: Piper Carter
Hey!
So today I decided to give you yet another 'Breaking into Fashion' post featuring photographer...
Piper Carter!
You might know her from her appearance on VH1's 'The Shot", but Piper has been in the industry for years, shooting editorials for British Elle, the New York Times, Trace, Spin and King Magazine.
She kindly took some time out of her hectic schedule to talk to the Fashion Bomb about how she got her start, and how you aspiring photographers can get your shot in the field.
Originally a dance major at Howard University, Piper always had a penchant for creativity. "I’ve been a dancer since I was five, but I felt it wasn't something I really wanted to do. I had interests in photography and fashion design, and on a whim switched my major to photography." Once she started taking classes, she realized that not only did she like snapping images, but she had a talent for it.After graduation the Michigan native moved to New York and took up an assistantship with celebrated photographer Steven Klein. Impressed with her pluck, he hired her on as his 5th assistant. She says, "I had to do a lot of grunt work, including picking up dog poo and getting his mail. But I was also able to become a part of his team. After 3 years of being with him, I became his second assistant and was virtually his lighting designer and production manager."
Though she learned a ton from her assistantship, she decided that she still needed to learn more, and went on to pursue another degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology. "After September 11th, the whole industry changed. I wanted to immerse myself in digital images." She followed FIT with an internship at Vogue, which led her to the VH1 show. Now you can find her backstage at Fashion Week, or shooting spreads for Essence and Six Degrees Magazine.
About breaking into the industry she says, "There are no hard and fast rules. Your career is what you make of it. Fashion is an industry that’s sort’ve like the wild wild west. You can get an agent or you could be on your own. You've just gotta be really diligent and persistent with contacting entities with which you want to work."
Not sure where to start? Piper touts the virtues of a French/English publication called 'Le Book.' She says, "It’s for clients to source out talent that they want to use. In there you can find contact information for photographers, production companies, photo studios, art directors, magazines, and art buyers. Contact them and offer to intern for them. You may not have an agent, so learn how to package yourself. It’s not about contacting people and saying how great you are, but getting in touch and saying , 'this is what I’ve done and this is what I can offer you.’" Just starting out? Play up your experience as best you can. "You've got to get yourself out there. Meet as many people as possible. Be your own mouthpiece."
Do you need a degree in photography to get through the door? "I learned more as an assistant than I did at school, " she confesses, "I went to school because I wanted to learn certain base skills. But you don't necessarily need to go to school to be a photographer." If you go the 'non-school' route, she recommends keeping your skills sharp by shooting something everyday. "Shoot a flower, a tree, a child, anything, just shoot and keep yourself fresh. Look at the images after you’ve shot and show those pictures to people. Not because you need their opinion, but see how your images affect what other people think. " Also, take advantage of local and smaller publications. "The fact that you’re working and working with the client, that alone can help you learn how to communicate with people and how to give people what they want."
As a woman of color, she says, "I could go on and on and on about the horrors I’ve experienced." But, "You have to have confidence. Do your thing and know that your work speaks beyond what color you are. Talent and a good personality go a long way."
Sound advice!
Piper's currently working on a compilation of aspirational images of women of color, set to launch in September. Keep track of her on her website, www.pipercarter.com, or on her Blog, Studio Arena.
Smootches!
Eric Wilson says, "Ms. Gittens, in a belted vintage gray dress, and Ms. Owunwanne, wearing jeans she had altered with an orange tie at the back, organized the market to draw attention to what is happening in Harlem, as well as to spotlight designers from Brooklyn and New Jersey." As V. Beckham would say: Mayjah!! Read the rest here. [NYTimes]*Christian Dior has unleashed a hot new celly:
"...The Diorphone which is targeted solely at women will be available in a regular version which will retail for 3,500 euros (about US$5,100) and a “deluxe model studded with 640 diamonds, which comes with an alligator sheath, runs up to 18,000 euros, or about US$27,000.″ Once again, these designers are smoking crack. *Fashion Bomb Friend Andre J is featured in this week's Time Out Magazine...
“...When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I say is ‘Thank you for waking me up this morning.’ Then I look in the mirror and say, ‘You are beautiful!’ The third thing I say is, ‘I am going to have a fantastic day!’ ” Read the rest here. [Time Out]

Your Summer Work Wardrobe Guide, Part 1
So reader Marci from Edinburgh, Scotland UK wrote in with the following:
"My work place has a casual smart dress code. I am not keen to wear jeans (except on the odd Friday when I know I’ll be meeting my mates for a drink after work). I prefer to wear pretty shirts with formal, tailored trousers. I’ve probably worn a skirt twice since December. Shorts are a personal no no. Please do a feature on casual-smart work wear for the summer?"Sure!
Intern Adriana stepped in to spearhead Part 1 of The Fashion Bomb's Guide to a Stylish Summer Work Wardrobe. Read on for suggestions for cool, breezy dresses, sophisticated jackets, and even office ready accessories! Stay tuned next week for tips on coordinating separates, bag options, and skirts!
********************************************************************
Hey Fashion Bombers!!
It’s finally warm, so you want to throw off those layers you’ve been wrapping yourself in and after surviving winter. Here, a few suggestions for how to dress fabulously for work while maintaining comfort, sophistication, and style:
1. Dresses (sorry, Guy Trebay):
There’s not an article of clothing that is equal parts comfortable for summer, flattering to so many shapes and sizes, and comes in such diverse fabrics! Knee-length dresses with capped sleeves work very well—they’re comfortable and sexy, yet cover enough to still be appropriate for work. Wrap dresses are always a great choice, and shirtwaist styles are also a cool way to maintain a preppy chic look:
1. Maggy London Cap Sleeve Chiffon Dress, $138, www.nordstrom.com. 2. Bebe Silk Sash Waist Dress, $129, www.bebe.com. 3. Diane von Furstnberg Tie-Dye Wrap Dress, $398, shopbop.com 4. Phoebe Couture Ruffled Shirtdress, $260, www.bloomingdales.com. 5. Tadashi Silk Dance Dress, $330, www.bloomingdales.com.2. Light Jackets:
A blazer can work wonders for an outfit. Donning one instantly pulls your look together and, given cut and fabric, can add anything from professionalism to edge. Bonus: it'll save you from the chills of the office air conditioner! J. Crew has a fantastic selection of light jackets for the summer, as do Trina Turk, Michael Kors, and Loeffler Randall:
1. Trina Turk Burke Jacket, $228, www.searlenyc.com. 2. Brushstroke Print Chessy Jacket, $148, www.jcrew.com. 3. Michael Kors Ponte Jacket, $84, www.lordandtaylor.com. 4. Loeffler Randal Silk Ruffle Jacket, $565, www.eluxury.com.A structured light cardigan is also a great summer piece as it has the look of a blazer yet a much lighter weight for a casual feel:
Vince Tie Front Cardigan, $235, shopbop.com
Ideally, you want a pair of shoes that will carry you from day through night. Tempting as they are, try to avoid flip-flops in the office. If you crave a flat shoe with the airiness of a sandal and that also shows off your pedi, go for an open-toed skimmer. A lower heeled sandal between 2” and 2.5” is also a great work-fashion compromise: short enough to be appropriate for work yet high enough to give you your heel fix:
Summer is the season to show off great necklaces. Use them to complement the lower necklines of summer tops and dresses:
1. Bubble Necklace, $150, www.jcrew.com. 2. Just Cavalli Zebra Heart Necklace, $273, www.eluxury.com. 3. Concentric Glass Bead Necklace, $28, www.urbanoutfitters.com. 4. Kenneth Jay Lane Snake Pendant Necklace, $77, shopbop.com 5. Women's Multi Stone Necklace, $10, oldnavy.com****************************************************************
Snaps for a great post including amazing shoe suggestions! I'm self admittedly a bit conservative when it comes to shoes, but I almost lost my breathe over the Chloe and Coclico sandals.
Great job, Adriana!
Stay tuned next week for Part 2 of the Fashionable Work Wardrobe Series. And maybe I'll do a little something for the men?

Morning Quickie: Uptown Emerging Designers Market
This weekend, I also stopped into the Uptown Emerging Designers Market hosted by my friends Michelle and Enyinne...As soon as I stepped into the Hip Hop Cultural Center, I was delighted to see tons of indie designers, including Burden Clothing, Cut it out Apparel, Harriet's Alter Ego, and of course Seasoned to Perfection.
While there were many many options, I only stopped and chit chatted with a few. One who caught my eye was D. Brown......she makes jazzy custom made t-shirts, emblazoned with her initials...
...along with custom made men's jeans and accessories (I liked her sequined berets!). Check her out at www.myspace.com/dbrownfashion.
Another designer to look out for: Nkrumah Jennings, designer of the jewelry line Anu......I knew I was just there to look around, but I couldn't help but shop at his table! I picked up a pair of cute gold earrings and a bold necklace (he actually shortened the necklace for me as I stood there). He's on myspace as well at www.myspace.com/anurockmetal.
All in all it was a great event!
I saw a few Fashion Bombers in the house...thanks for rolling out! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the next Uptown Emerging Designers Market in July!

Real Style: Pieces Boutique
Hey!
So this weekend, my fashion plate was literally brimming over with yummy events! It seems like everyone I knew was having something to celebrate summer, style, and design.
My first stop was at my favorite store, Pieces, for the launch of their children's and mens' store...I arrived at Pieces at 6pm on the dot, and the store quickly filled with Brooklyn's fashionable set:
...of course I had to snap a few pictures of the lovely people who came out to shop, sip, and strut:
Young lady on the right stopped me in my tracks with her pretty bright coral patterned tunic worn with skinny jeans and flat metallic sandals. Her pop of lipstick brought it all together. Diva on the left looked fly in a form fitting black dress and sky high stilettos.
Shannon from Parlour Magazine (www.parlourmagazine.com) was in the house with a plum clutch worn with skinny jeans, a blue frilly top, and an army green jacket. If you haven't heard of Parlour, check it out! It's a webzine focused on global news, culture, and music.
Of course some guys swung by for the celebration of the men's store! These young men represented the online mag YRB (www.yrbmagazine.com) and came thru sporting a Pieces collection hoodie on the right, and a vest, jacket and jeans accessorized with a hat and glasses on the left.
Look at this fly couple! Homegirl's Louis Vuitton Damier Speedy and large earrings stood against a backdrop of wide legged dark jeans, a simple tee, and leather jacket. On top of being super chic, she's also a jewelry designer (e-mail her here) and a Fashion Bomb fan! Y'all are so cute! Her boyfriend stood out in a green jacket, plaid scarf and straight legged jeans.
I loved the guy on the right's Guccisima murse, which went well with his scarf and hat. His boo looked summer ready in a white top and flats.
The creator of the children's clothing line Brycewear (www.brycewear.com) came with her son Bryce, and represented for fashionable mothers in high waisted jodhpur capris, gold wedges, and a cropped jean jacket.
And lastly, Gwyneth, designer of Gwyneth Shoes (www.gwynethshoes.com) looked sweetly sophisticated in a red patterned jacket with a ribbon tie, wide legged jeans, and amazing jewelry.
Even on my way out I caught some style from Daoud from the company Coup D'Etat Brooklyn (www.cdtbk.com):
*Stop into Pieces at 671 Vandberlit Avenue at Park Place in Brooklyn for your fashion fix. Not in NYC? Visit their site, www.piecesofbklyn.com and shop online!

*Have y'all heard of this girl, Arlenis?
...apparently she's the new girl in town. Hmmm. I'll keep an eye out. [Fashionista]
*The urban line Parish Nation brought it's clothes and a fashion show to a troubled high school in Camden New Jersey...
..."[Parish Nation] said their main goal was to provide an unusual, creative outlet and build self-esteem for young people with few such opportunities." Great story. Read it here. [NYTimes]
*And this spread in the New York Times Magazine was positively stunning. [NYTimes]
*In random fashion news, this guy won some sort of world record with 23 popped collars...
...I went to a preppy school, but this is the first time I've seen this. Thanks Kelly!

Mail Bombs+ Fashionable Weekend Events
Hey!
So for this week's Mail Bombs the new Fashion Bomb's interns represented like no other!
Let's take a gander at their handy work:
First, Khalilah says, "I’m in the Midwest and our weather is finally turning into Spring! I need help locating a cute waist-length trench like the one Tyra is sporting..."
"...Help me please!"
Adriana offered these options:
1. Juicy Couture Mini Trench, $298, www.bloomingdales.com. 2. Drama Satin Short Trench, $35, www.bloomingdales.com. 3. Vince Funnel Neck Jacket, $295, www.bloomingdales.com.
Next, 19 year old Jessica wrote in saying, "I'm in need of some help now!""...It's safe to say that I have a pretty good sense of fashion, but I was wondering if you could help me find these bracelets that Rihanna has on......."
"...(I L.O.V.E. her by the way) I guess you could say she is my style idol....we both love edgy things!!!!! Thanks a billion!"
No problem! Rihanna stacked and mixed and matched different types of Kenneth Jay Lane Geometric Bangles......get the silver and black version for $100 a pop at www.madisonlosangeles.com. The white version is available for $57 at www.net-a-porter.com.
Next, Juanita says, "I am feeling the shoes that the Sugababe in the sequined dress (far right) wore to the Sex and the City World Premiere..."
"...Who designed them and where can I get an affordable approximation? Thanks so much!"
Adriana found that that Sugarbabe is wearing these $1,000 Jimmy Choo Apple Metallic Suede Sandals...
...but if you don't have an extra G lying around, you can get the look with these lower priced options:1. Martinez Valero Class Sandals, $182, www.zappos.com. 2. Nine West Jewellite Sandal, $88, www.piperlime.com. 3. Stuart Weitzman Submit Sandals, $280, www.zappos.com.
Carol says, "I was surfing the 'net and came across this picture of Jordin Sparks..."
"...I absolutely love the belt she's wearing! I checked on eBay but no luck. I just got a simple jersey "Little Black Dress" by Willi Smith and this belt would be perfect. Can you tell me if you've seen anything similar or your recommendations."
Aramide from Chi town solved this one!
Check out these fabulous finds for something similar:1. Cynthia Rowley Soft Leather Sash Belt, $98, www.nordstrom.com. 2. Patent Curve Cummerbund Belt, $192.50, www.shopbop.com. 3. Stitched Obi Wrap Belt, $26.17, www.asos.com.
Elizabeth from Memphis, Tennessee says, "I was wondering where I could find a dress like the green one Audrina Patridge wore at "Live from the Hills Season Finale"?"
"...It is hott! Help me find it or something similar!!"
New intern Victoria from Carolina maintains that Audrina's dress from the finale is by Alvin Valley.
I aim to please, so I found a few close approximations for you Hills fans:1. Nicole Miller Matte Jersey Bubble Hem Dress, $220, www.nordstrom.com. 2. Christopher Dean Luna Dress, $335, www.singer22.com. 3. Vince Oragami Matte Jersey Dress, $240, www.bloomgindales.com.
Lastly, Fashion Bomb reader Diva says, "Could you tell me who SJP was wearing when the girls of SATC were on Oprah promoting their movie a few weeks ago? "
Adriana steps in again! She says, "The dress appears to be from the Oscar de la Renta 2008 Pre-Fall collection. I say "appears" because while the exact dress is not in the collection, the print fabric of it appears in other garments, and the cut, use of the leather high-waist belt, and fabric are all very much de la Renta."
Sounds good to me!
I found a few close floral approximations:1. See by Chloe Printed Shift Dress, $520, www.tobi.com. 2. Ginny H Printed Shift, $690, www.neimanmarcus.com. 3. Floral Print Lady Dress, $150, www.bananarepublic.com.
That does it!
The interns helped out a ton, didn't they? How did they do?

Real Talk: Stained Leather Fix
Hey,
So last summer, I purchased a cute, functional light leather bag. It was a subdued tan, had fashionable tassles, and went with just about everything!
After a summer of parties and fun, I took a look, and my poor bag was almost embarassing to carry around:
On top of being stained by my excessive cocoa butter use, black jackets, and dirt, it also had gum on it! Don't ask me how it got there.
I really thought my bag was done for, before I spoke to a friend who told me I could get the problem fixed for a steal.
He directed me to a place called Evelyn & San...
A shoe repair shop nestled away at 400 West 83rd street and 1st avenue.
The shop itself was very unassuming......but when I took a closer look, I noticed all the Gucci bags, Manolo Blahnik and Louboutin heels...this place was all business!
I asked if my bag could be fixed, and the friendly Italian owner told me that with two weeks (and $75 cash), he could make it good as new. $75 seemed like a lot, but I decided to trust him...besides $75 is nothing compared to the price of buying a new bag.
Three weeks later, voila:What do you think? The gum is definitely gone, as are most of the darker stains...it's definitely much better than it used to be! So instead of succumbing to the allure of purchasing a new tote, it seems I can carry my old purse around for yet another season.
If you, too, have a light colored or white bag in your closet that you think is virtually unwearable...hit up your local shoe repair store. You never know. For a small fee, you may be able to rock your bag like new!

Real Style: Mother's Day
Hey!
So in commemoration of Mother's Day yesterday, reader Quaneshia from Memphis, Tennesee wrote in with a bit of 'Mother Real Style'
She says, "I'm a teacher who definitely believes in beauty on a budget and achieving "the look" for less. I wanted to send you some pics to see what you thought about my style...I call it classic elegance with hints of trendy and color... "
"...My school style may consist of basic pieces with modern trenches to updated suiting to cute dresses paired with cardigans. Also, because teachers nowadays have a life, I can be casual for a day out (notice the coordinating grey on the Chucks :)) or classy on a night out with the girls... "
Since it was Mother's Day Weekend, she says, " I thought it fitting for me to send a couple pics of my little man..."
"... Kamrin is 5 years old and has a style ranging from preppy to male urban chic. "
Y'all...how cute is this?????
In sum, Quaneshia says, "Although we're not not as eclectic as I've seen on The Fashion Bomb, do we have style???"
I think they do!
What do you think?

Mail Bombs + Fashion Trivia
It's the end of a great week!
Let's solve some Mail Bombs!
Lisa fell in love with Nicole Richie's dress here...
She says, "Where can I get it?"
We searched and found that she's wearing a variation upon this $425 Diane Von Furstenberg Novesa Dress...
...from shopbop.comNext, Jonilee from Brooklyn NY says, "I was wondering if you can tell me where can I purchase this shirt that Ashanti is sporting...."
"...I love the character and I'm late for everything; might as well warn people first!"
Y'all are hilarious! Lucky for you, stellar intern Adriana searched and found the yellow version of the shirt...
...for $26 at www.80stees.com.
Next Lola asks, "I love the dress Rihanna is wearing on the cover of Elle Magazine and I HAVE HAVE HAVE to have it!!!"
"...I know its Donna Karan and out of my price range. Where can I find a similar dress??"
Try these low priced lovelies for a similar look:
1. Red Summer Dress by Paradyz, $215, www.edressme.com. 2. Tart Jersey Sharon V-Neck Dress, $73, www.bluefly.com3. Aqua Women's Sleeveless Racerback Dress, $78, www.bloomingdales.com.
In a men's Mail Bomb, Cake from Savannah says, "I wanna know what kind of sunglasses Usher was wearing in the Love in this Club video...."
Try these for an Usher steeze:1. Italia Independent Sunglasses, $395, www.barneys.com. 2. John Varvatos Navigator Sunglasses, $325, www.neimanmarcus.com. 3. Plastic Aviator Frames, $70, www.kennethcole.com.
Now for a few wardrobe solutions.
Shanae says, "Ok so I've been looking all over for a pair of the high waisted jeans but I havent found a cute pair yet, PLEASE HELP!"
"...Also what could I wear with it, like as far as shirts?!"
With high waisted jeans, I think it's best to wear them with a plain shirt--whether it's a white t-shirt, button down or tie-neck blouse...
...for more examples of how to wear high waisted pants, check out my post about it here. If you want to add a few pairs to your wardrobe, try these:
1. Whiskered High Waist Jeans, $29.80, www.forever21.com. 2. Seven for all Mankind High Waisted Bootcut Jeans, $172, www.shopbop.com. 3. Jenny Jen Gold Stitch Jeans, $129, www.blaec.com. 4. Seven for all Mankind Sophie High Waisted Skinny Jeans, $119, www.eluxury.com.
Lastly, Aija asks, "Quick question for you - once in a while someone pulls together a sort of shopping how-to guide that tells you the best time to purchase designer bags, coats, jewelry, etc. Have you seen anything like this, or do you have any pointers on the best time to make some of these major purchases?"
I actually wrote an article about this a long time ago for an online magazine called Beauty Addict. Yes, I wrote for other sites before starting The Fashion Bomb!
According to me, "Summer apparel, like flirty dresses, swimsuits, and colorful skirts, start lining the shelves in March when it’s still a bit chilly. Though it’s tempting to buy everything you see the moment it arrives in stores, June and July are the sales months for summer clothes, with July being the clearance month...So if you can make it through May showing off your newly svelte bod in last year’s digs, you can stock up on almost all the polo shirts, flip-flops, and Capris your heart desires later on." What great advice!
Read the rest here. It's fun to reminisce!
...along with the name of the model, month and year, you'll win a Fashion Bomb T-Shirt! E-mail me at thefashionbomb@gmail.com with your response.*Update: You guys are super duper fast! Denise from Illinois responded within a half an hour saying, "The cover is from March 1966. It featured Donyale Luna, the first cover model of ethnic origin for Vogue." You are correct! Look out for your T!
For the rest of you, enter the code 'friendsandfamily' for $10 off your Fashion Bomb Shop Purchase. Offer expires 5/16!
Smootches!
Click here to find out why. [NYTimes]*Donyale Luna actually had a very, very sad story.
Reader Janay sent me this website (which also has great pictures of Donyale). According to the site, "Her unprofessional behavior signaled the end of Luna’s career. Beverly Johnson recalled that Luna “[didn’t] wear shoes winter or summer. Ask her where she’s from — Mars? She went up and down the runways on her hands and knees. She didn’t show up for bookings. She didn’t have a hard time, she made it hard for herself.” In 1979, Luna died of a drug overdose in Rome." Read the rest here.*If you want to read Time Magazine's piece on her, titled, "Luna Year," you can do so here.
*If you don't read the New Yorker...start! It is simply the best magazine ever. Check this article in this week's issue on Pascal Dangin, the premier retoucher of photographs for basically every fashion magazine under the sun. Just to give you an idea of how dope he is, "In the March issue of Vogue Dangin tweaked a hundred and forty-four images: a hundred and seven advertisements (Estée Lauder, Gucci, Dior, etc.), thirty-six fashion pictures, and the cover, featuring Drew Barrymore." It's pretty cool.

You Should Know: Kevan Hall
Hey!
So as you know, I fell in love with Kimora Lee's choice for the Costume Institute Gala a few days ago...
...I thought it was fresh, pretty, and different. You can tell Kimora understands style: she knows how to take risks without falling on her face!
Of course I wondered to myself who designed her multicolored frock, and thankfully several of you e-mailed me to let me know that the designer is in fact Kevan Hall...
...yes! Silly me, I thought I had featured most designers of color on the Fashion Bomb, but there are always others hiding in the folds!
So Kevan Hall was born in Detroit and studied fashion design at Cass Technical High School before attending Los Angeles' Fashion Institute of Design...
...he struck out on his own throughout the 80's and 90's before becoming Design and Creative Director for the legendary Halston in 1998. In 2002, he started his own signature line, the Kevan Hall Collection. Now you can see his sophisticated, tailored frocks on the likes of Vanessa Williams, Felicity Huffman, Vivica A. Fox, Virginia Madsen, Garcelle Beauvais, Debra Messing and Renee Zellweger.
Looks from his Spring 2008 Collection
When asked what he is up to now, he reveals, "One of our recent projects was the wedding gown and reception dress for Tia Mowry. She was adorable and so in love!"
Spring 2008
"...I enjoy the process of design from concept to execution...But the most gratifying part is seeing a design come to life on a beautiful woman."
Fierce!
Find out more at www.kevanhalldesigns.com, or if you're in LA, pay him a visit at 8313 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90048 (323-658-7979).

Claire's Life: Mary J Blige Concert Afterparty
Here's a "Claire's Life" quickie:
Last night I went to Spotlight Live for the Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z concert afterparty. Truth be told, I went to take a picture with Mary, but this is the best I could do:...So close!!! Cute haircut. (I'm just noticing this now, but is that Kevin Liles in the background???)
Anyway...No matter, I was able to catch up with a few of the other celebs in the house.
The baddest, Trina, was very gracious and sophisticated:Stephen Baldwin was cool and down to earth (and offered my friend the rest of his Red Bull!):
And highlight of the night had to be meeting some of the boys from Day 26....
...they were super sweet and kept the Ciroc flowing all night:)
Believe it or not, it's 3am. Sleep time!
*Just for fun, a quick Day 26 viddy:
Cute! Buy their album here.
*This is so funny! I just looked online for pix of MJB from last night. Check out this picture:

Breaking into Fashion: Sam Fine
Hey!
A Fashion Bomb fanatic and two time Real Style subject, Desiree is also an aspiring makeup artist and beauty writer. She says, "I've been devouring beauty knowledge since I started wearing lipstick! Every time I bump into celebrity makeup artists I think, "I wish I had a blog to share this knowledge with other women."
An industry veteran, Sam has worked with everyone from Mary J. Blige, Brandy and Vanessa Williams to models Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, and Iman. Basically, he's the bomb!He was gracious enough to answer a few questions for you aspiring beauty buffs out there.
Enjoy!
***************************************************************
When Chicago native Sam Fine moved to New York City, he certainly didn't have makeup artistry in mind. "I moved to New York to become a Fashion Illustrator, " he admits, "I took a job behind the cosmetics counter because I thought it would be easy...It looked really fun and no one there looked like they were doing any real work (laughs)..."
"...My best friend, who was a professional Makeup Artist, helped me tremendously and really taught me makeup. He helped me to translate my one-dimensional understanding of art into the three-dimensional world of beauty. I just practiced, and got into it, and really decided that I was going to take it seriously...Eighteen years later, you see where I am. "
An industry go-to, Fine has worked with everyone from Oprah to Gabrielle Union, Beyonce, and Tyra Banks, and has painted faces for Covergirl Campaigns, music videos, tours, and innumerable magazines.
Fine, who made up Patti Labelle's face for $150 when he first started out because he was just, "young and dumb and happy to be there," attributes his success to his inexorable passion for his work. "Looking back, I think there’s a beauty to being naïve and just going out on your own and doing something that you have a real passion for."
For you aspiring makeup artists, Sam stands by 'real world' experience instead of traditional beauty school. "I refer to the cosmetics counter as the real ‘School of Beauty’ - the real hands-on training, " he says, "There, you’re dealing with women of all different ages, features, and textures. And, you learn to understand personalities, which I think is a very big part of this industry. Education helps tremendously and school will make you more prepared to do a celebrity client; but, at the counter, you’ve dealt with so many women and so many different concerns that you can jump right in there and feel a lot more secure about doing a celebrity client..."
Looking for his secret? He simply states, "When you put yourself in a position to do something great you’ll just meet similar people along the way." In terms of 'Breaking In' it seems as if the answer is: get to work! "This is one of the few businesses that doesn’t have a real training ground. There’s no direct route into the industry. At the end of the day, it’s really about what you do with your education and your passion...the passion is what helps you to excel..."
Fabulous!***************************************************************
Learn more about Sam's work at his website, www.samfine.com and keep your eyes peeled for an instructional makeup DVD this fall on his blog, www.samfine.com/fineblog.

Fashionistas and Celebutantes of every stripe converged last night for the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A few pictures of Fashion Bomb esque celebs:

...snaps to Thandie Newton for going with a mid thigh lingerie inspired dress along with sexy gladiator sandals! She really pushed the envelope (as you can see, most people wore floor length Princess gowns).
And I've got to give it to Kimora for also thinking outside the box in her colorful creation.
Beyonce looks like she's pageant ready in her champagne gown, and J. Lo quite demure in her ice blue frock. Zoe Kravitz stepped it up significantly, and Iman looked radiant, as usual.
If I had to pick a winner, I'd go with Kimora for picking something appropriate yet interesting (I wonder who designed her dress..?).
But what about y'all? Whose outfit fits your fancy?

Real Style: Bergdorf Goodman
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
So on Friday I was hanging on 5th avenue with my buddy from London...we were walking and talking, catching up, when I saw this seriously dapper young man...Click to Enlarge
...I mean, are you serious? He was soooo well turned out with his embroidered jacket, pinstriped vest, cravat, and matching pocket square...not to mention his gold rimmed sunglasses, bold jewelry, and pointed shoes. He kept it a little edgy with an Afro and a lollipop... literally EVERYTHING was on point. I had to ask what he did to achieve such Fabulosity....turns out he works at Bergdorf Goodman.
Figures.
So, what do you think? Doesn't he have great style?

Mail Bombs
Yet another fabulous Friday!
Time for some fun!
Several people wrote in inquiring about Alicia Keys' shoes in this picture:
Alero says, "Do you have any idea who makes them or have you seen anything similar?"
Stellar intern Adriana searched, and found that Ms. Keys is wearing these Dior Mary Janes:
...go to www.diorcouture.com for retail locations.
In yet another Alicia Keys request, Jaime wanted to know how to get this hot dress...
...According to this source, she's wearing a Calvin Klein creation. The closest approximation I could find was this Calvin Klein Wool Jersey Dress...
...available for $1,603 at www.net-a-porter.com.
Loads of people were also interested in Alicia's shoes, but the terns and I searched with no luck! If you can find the brand plus a link or picture, I'll send you a Fashion Bomb T! E-mail thefashionbomb@gmail.com with your answer!
Update! You guys are so fast!
Tammi C wrote in saying, "Alicia's shoes are Sergio Rossi..."
"...check them out here." Go to www.sergiorossi.com for price and buying info (warning his shoes average about $700...though one reader wrote in saying, "I will eat Ramen for these!!") Anything for fashion, huh? Anyway, congrats Tammi!
In non Alicia Mail Bombs, Aisha from London says, "I am obsessed with Keyshia Cole's top..."
"...It is fire!! I want it...I need it, I am obsessed with it...lol, where can I find it?? The best feature of the shirt is the ruffled neck line for me."
It looks like Keyshia's wearing this $222 Warhol Factory X Levi's Ruffle Tux Tank...
...from www.barneys.com.
Now for a few wardrobe queries.
Nina from Washington, DC writes, "After getting rained on today while trying to hold my toddler and hold an umbrella, I've come to the conclusion it is high time I got a rain coat with a hood. All the ones I've found are not fashionable in the least! I know they must exist. Can you point me in the right direction? My current budget is around $100...but I'm always interested in seeing the beauty that I can't afford as well!"
Sure! Try these affordable options:Left to Right: Gallery Short Trench Coat, $118, www.nordstrom.com; Elie Tahari Brenna Hooded Coat, $268, www.saks.com; Hooded Trench, $100, www.freepeople.com.
Next reader Raven says, "I'm a senior in high school and my prom is coming up!! I decided to do it BIG! and go with a white gown! but now I'm clueless on how to make it stand out..what color shoes and accessories should I pair with my dress..if you can please write me back i would greatly appreciate it.."
Hey there! I've done a few posts about white outfits...
...Generally, white looks great with metallic accessories...I personally think gold looks a bit more dressy than silver. For your prom make sure your accessories pop with details like stones, sequins or beads:Top Row: Knotted Gold Leather Sandals, $30, www.stevemadden.com; Franchi Metallic Flap Clutch, $66, www.bloomingdales.com; Jacqueline Ferrar Krystal Sandal, $50, www.jcpenney.com.
Bottom Row: Elissa Bloom Jewel Pouch, $41, www.ebags.com; Guess Okanarra Evening Sandal, $99, www.macys.com; BJuliet Gold Metal Clutch, $38, www.stevemadden.com.
Next, Deesha writes in saying, "I have a party to go to this coming weekend, and I have a dress that needs some livening up. As you can see I have the shoes and the dress...""... but I need help with accessories, what would you recommend?"
Your dress is so simple (and cute), you can go wild with bold accessories: cascading necklaces, cuffs or bangles. Use these for inspiration:
Top Row: AV Max Gold Straight Link Necklace, $36, www.bluefly.com; Cousin Claudine Stretch Bracelets, $85, www.intermixonline.com; Xhileration Gold Toned Multistrand Necklace, $13, www.target.com.
Bottom Row: ASOS Woven Metal Cuff, $13, www.asos.com; Chains and Gem Necklace, $64, www.bebe.com; Kimberly Faith Gold Cuff, $53, Couture Candy.
Lastly, proof that you guys actually follow my advice!
Nique wrote in last week asking for shoes to match this dress:
...I suggested some silver strappy numbers and voila:
Party Perfect!
Deesha, Raven, you have to tell me how it all works out (and send pictures!)
Have amazing, fabulous weekends.
Till Monday...
Smootches!
