Spring Break Fashion Checklist

Hey!
So I've been getting lots of e-mails from lucky bunnies preparing for Spring Break. I myself am saving all my pesos for a huge trip this summer, but totally support breaking out in search of more tropical locales.

For those about to pack your bags, here's a checklist for five Spring Break Wardbrode Fundamentals:
1. A Hot Suit
The newest silhouette is a maillot, a 50's inspired one piece with lots of punch.
Try these sassy one pieces:
Left to Right: Zimmerman Luxe Spliced One Piece, $175, shopbop.com
Nylon Tricot Maillot V-Swimwear, $45, www.americanapparel.net; Milly Mirabella Maillot, $220, www.neimanmarcus.com.
Of course, don't forget about traditional tank and bikinis:
My Picks:
Left to Right: Ralph Lauren Striped Tankini Top, $73, www.macys.com; Shiny Tankini Top, $39.50, Gap.com
2. Cute Cover Up
Whether you're lounging on the beach, or indulging in a sun kissed dinner by the pool, a cute cover up is an easy vacation must, and a lot less work then a dress. Invest in a hot option so you can wear it all day, then throw on some jewels at night:
Left to Right: Adam Deep V Sweater Dress, $185, shopbop.com
Echo Butterfly Cover Up, $40, www.ravinstyle.com.
3. The Right Shoes
I'd recommend bringing three pairs of shoes: flip flops for the sand, flat sandals for walking around, and no nonsense wedges that can look casual with a cover up or more dressy with a cocktail. You don't want to break your back in stilettos!
Some Flip Flop Ideas:

No fail flats (I love metallics):

Comfortable yet cute wedges:
4. Wrinkle Free Dresses
For those dress up nights, you want options, but you also don't want to deal with a frock that looks like a trash bag when you take it out of your suitcase! Pack dresses in jersey fabrics that can look fresh after a quick shower steam:
5. Hold Everything Bags
You don't want to cart get your Gucci Hobo full of sand! Go for a patterned or metallic bag with lots of room for a book, sunscreen and water:
Middle Row: Virginia Johnson Giant Tote, $175, shopbop.com
Bottom Row: Women's Raffia Beach Tote, $10, oldnavy.com
Echo Ethnic Stripe Tote, $53, www.ravinstyle.com.
You're all set!
Oh wait...throw in a few scarves...
... if you actually plan on swimming:
...ha!
Have fun in the sun!

*I've added a new search sidebar to the upper right hand side. It'll take a while to iron out kinks, but soon, you can search to your heart's content, subscribe to my RSS feed, or e-mail me!
*I'm aware the Milan and London Fashion Weeks have come and gone, but I just can't do them justice quite like Suzy Menkes of the International Herald Tribune and Robin Givhan of the Washington Post. Check out Suzy here and Robin here.

Get Your Stunna Shades On

"Gucci shades up on my braids when I Escalade/When I'm riding Sprewells sliding like a escapade/I got it made the big boss of the north/Ain't ish changed I still represent Swisha House." Mike Jones, "Still Tippin."
When it's bright and sunny outside, there's no better way to accessorize your summer wardobe than with a pair of cute, face flattering stunna shades...

The right sunglasses, chosen carefully, can instantly upgrade and 'chic'-ify your look.
Before you run to the store, know that there's actually a method to picking the perfect pair. Let's take a look at a few of our fave celebs to see how it's done:
Ms. Kelly...

...J.Lo...

..and Rihanna...

...all don sunglasses with rounded frames to balance and complement their angular jawlines. Doing so adds a bit of softness to their more straight edged facial features.
On the other hand, women with rounder faces like Eve...

...and Mariah...

...look more balanced with the opposite: angular more boxy shade shapes that lend a little edge to their softer features.
Unsure of your face shape?
Classic aviator sunglasses look good on almost everyone. Ciara...

...and Zoe Saldana...

Know what's up.
And if you're feeeling playful, don't be afraid to experiment with color. Get creative with a pair of orange shades like Nicole Richie...

Or mix it up more with a retro pair of white sun-specs a la Kelis...

Cute.
Need a few ideas? Try the following:

Top Row: Ray Ban Original Aviator Sunglasses, $119, http://www.eluxury.com/; Royal Flush Sunglasses, $38, http://www.anthropologie.com/.
Bottom Row: Kenneth Cole Rev-eye-vul Sunglasses, $98, http://www.kennethcole.com/; Dior Glossy Large Sunglasses, $260, www.eluxury.com.
I threw in a pair of Dior specs for you divalicious babes out there. Now get those stunna shades on!

PS Intern Elita says, "According to Fashionista.com there is a Rachel Roy sample sale going on today and tomorrow from 12-7 at 25 W. 39th St, 14th floor."

So Elita was right! Rachel Roy is having a sample sale, and I dropped in briefly while running errands. The prices were a little higher than expected...shirts from $50-$100 and dresses starting at $150. Also, forget about sizes. I couldn’t find a button down bigger than a size 8, or a dress bigger than a medium. But I did manage to leave with one Grecian gathered cotton top (perfect with some skinny jeans) and a work ready white ruffle trimmed sleeveless sweater for $150. Bonus: Totally saw Damon Dash! Don’t you hate when you see a celebrity...and you’re all cheesing...and you expect them to know who you are cuz you know who they are...but you just end up looking lame (meanwhile, they’re like who’s this crazy person staring at me?) ANYWAY, celeb sightings aside, it was worth it. Rachel's clothes are so pretty, even a simple top will upgrade your wardrobe. Hit up her sale. It’s going on until tomorrow!

Style File: Kelly Rowland!

"I'm so real, so soft to touch/ My love my kiss so sweet, glorious/ The look on your face/ Anyone can see/No one does it like me."--Kelly Rowland, 'Can't Nobody.'

Hey Guys,
So I'm going to make celebrity 'style file' a regular post every week...and this week, my Style File pick is cute Kelly Rowland.

Though she (and everyone else in D's Child) has always played second fiddle to the mighty Beyonce, Kelly has come to the forefront as a fashionista with a wardrobe that's chic, understated, and sophisticated. Let's take a look:
Kelly looks great in everything from casual t's, jeans, and shades...

To divalicious pencil skirts and pants suits.

She keeps it simple when she goes out...

...adding great accessories like belts, metallic clutches, and jewelry to slinky black pieces.
While she doesn't depart far from a black, white, or neutral color pallette...

..she still, at times, sauces it up with a patterned sexy top.

Glam.
Want her look? Try these Fashion Bomb Certified items:

Un Chapeau

"Ha! I've got your hat! Take that, Hatless! Now go back to the quad and resume your hacky-sack tournee!"--Stewie Griffin of the Family Guy

Sometimes, ladies, you don't feel like doing your hair. Sometimes, just sometimes, the thought of curling, braiding, dying, or frying just doesn't appeal.

So you reach for a hat.

But a fashionable lady can't grab just any old hat off the rack.
Baseball caps....

...are better suited for guys or pre-adolescent girls.

Scullies...

...might make you look dated.

And the full on white fur...

...just looks crazy.

I personally think menswear inspired hats a la Marlene Dietrich...

...are super stylish and sexy.
For modern examples, look no further than the most fashionable celebrities.
Kelly Rowland...

and Mary J...

...beautifully update the look with sharp fedoras.

Halle Berry joins the fray...

with a dark page boy.

And the ever fabulous J. Lo....

...looks hot in a chic bowler.

I personally like this Burberry Driver's Cap...

...at Saks for $160.

And this Eugenia Kim equestrian cap...

...at Shopbop for $165.

When looking for hats, stick to tame, neutral colors or patterns in a smooth wool.
Off to find a topper!
