Hey!
So my interns have been keeping busy this summer, helping solve Mail Bombs and also catching Real Style in their respective hometowns.
Checking in today is Charle, who brings us a bit of style from her neck of the woods.
Enjoy!

So while traipsing around Wicker Park, Chicago's most fashion conscious neighborhood, I stumbled upon this handsome writer named Chad:
What amazing color mastery! Pairing that lavender American Apparel shirt with a vintage blue polka dart scarf is genius! He studied Fiction Writing at Chicago's Columbia College, but I couldn't believe he'd never taken a fashion class. Great job accomplishing a very quirky ensemble with masculine basics, sir.
Would you let your boyfriend wear this?

Hmmm, I think I'd be ok with it!
Would you?

Mail Bombs
Hey!
Sorry for the late post. What can I say? I have a summer Friday, and had a late night.
I did what I could, however...
...let's get started!
First, reader M says, " Could you please let me know who Lauren's shoes are by???"
"... I love love love studs! I'll be forever thankful!! "
Seems Lauren is wearing these $250 Report Signature Masonic Sandals...
...get 'em in nude (shown) or black at shopbop.comNext Nikki says, "I saw this outfit and automatically knew I needed to have it for an upcoming party..."
"... Any idea where I can find it?!"
Get a similar look with this jumpsuit and shoe combo:
1. ASOS Cheesecloth Bandeau Jumpsuit, $60. 2. Oh Deer! Jamocha Shoes, $78.
Next, Fai says, "I adore Rihanna...almost to the point where it's kinda scary."
"Are there any jewelry pieces that are must haves for Rihanna fans like me?"
As you guys know, Rihanna gets tons of questions on this blog! I've profiled her jewelry game for several posts. I encourage everyone who writes in to search my archives (check the right hand sidebar), but for this question, I did the searching for ya!
According to this February 29th Post, Rihanna loves to stack on Kenneth Jay Lane Bangles!
In this instance...
She artfully layered his $98 gold Pyramid Bracelets..
And in this May 16th 2008 post ....
I found that once again, Rihanna stacked and mixed and matched different types of Kenneth Jay Lane Geometric Bangles...Not one to stick to one tune, I found in this post...
that she favors studs as well, like this $13 Triple Strap Bracelet:
And lastly, in this June 6th, 2008 post:
We found she was prone to wearing chunky necklaces like these:1. Kenneth Jay Lane 16 Gold Twist Tube, $102. 2. Dookie Monster Triple Link Chain, $48. 3. Curb Chain Choker, $450.
In sum, to get Rihanna's look, invest in some Kenneth Jay Lane bangles, studded bracelets, and chunky necklaces! For more Rihanna love, check out her archived posts!
Lastly, a wardrobe query from Quaneshia from Memphis! She says, "I have a question about what to wear with this dress..."
"... I absolutely love the colors and the dress fits me like a dream. The black shoes the model is wearing are definitely NOT an option for me. Please help me with some accessory suggestions (shoes and bag) that will make this dress standout. I would greatly appreciate your help."
Since this dress has yellow accents, I say you go with accessories to pick up on that. Try these:
1. Flap Front Clutch, $45. 2. Fendi Medium Baguette, $995. 3. Nine West Jaiya Peep Toe Slingbacks, $90. 4. BCBGirls Iriana Sandals, $50.
That does it!
Off to enjoy the day:)

Spotlight on: Arlenis Pena
Hey!
So today I wanted to shine a spotlight on up and coming Dominican model Arlenis Pena...
After her sparkling 'debut' as it were in Vogue's July issue, I thought it fitting to relay her tale for those who don't know:
A designer caught sight of 18 year old Arlenis in her native Dominican Republic, and knew he was looking at something special. He took a snapshot of the beauty, and sent it to Marilyn Agency in New York. Impressed with her pic, they arranged for her to fly to JFK--she was subsequently booked on the spot. She debuted on the runway for the holiday Banana Republic Show in NYC...
...then went on to stomp in Christian Dior's Resort 2008 show this past March...
...aside from her editorial in Vogue's "Is Fashion Racist" article, also keep an eye peeled for her in the Italian Vogue issue (on newsstands soon, I'll let y'all know!)
It's exciting to see new blood. Looks like Bethann's dream of diversifying the runways is coming to fruition!

BET Awards: Hits and Misses
So the BET Awards were on last night...
...you know I was out, so I didn't get a chance to watch!
Still, I had to check out the red carpet highlights for Fashion Bomb Hits and Misses.
First the hits:
You can say many things about Cassie, but you can never say the girl is poorly dressed. She stepped out in typical fly fashion in a Pepto Bismol pink mini cocktail and peep toe stilettos. Love it!Alicia Keys also went for pink in this perfectly fitted strapless dress...
Jordin Sparks shined in a flattering and well tailored crimson number...
And Solange Knowles looked surprisingly chic in this patterned frock...
..I see you Solange!Another shock (sort've) was Miss Lil Kim...
I actually liked this deep plum halter cocktail. Given her track record, this was an unequivocal 'hit.' It fits, it's flattering, the color is dope.A snap goes to usual suspect, Rihanna...
...who looked a bit out the box yet beautiful in this floor sweeping neon gown. Initially the color hurt my eyes, but it works for her, and the makeup is simply chic.Lastly, Gabrielle Union looked gorgeous tapping into the maxi dress trend...
...wearing an all white flowing number with silver accents. Not everyone showed and proved:
Jennifer Hudson tried, but unfortunately this was a miss for me. As a curvy girl, I know it's hard to find the perfect bust fit, but this dress is too small:
...Fit is everything! A bit more wiggle room would've made all the difference!Toccara seems to have also missed the 'fit' lesson...
...the top of her dress is gorgeous and sophisticated, but the bottom gets scary with pulling and pleating. Satin is a dangerous fabric: unless it fits perfectly, it can signal fashion suicide!Keyshia Cole actually suffered from the opposite 'fit' effect...
...her yellow dress is eye catchingly pretty, yet the shoulder section seems to be too big on her. And isn't she hot?And lastly, the biggest miss had to be...
...Lil Mama. There are no words. But I think we know that Lil Mama doesn't purport to be fashionable, just unique. My two cents! What were your hits and misses?
Smootches!
*A lot of you mentioned Nia Long's dress...
She wasn't on the carpet, but her plum gathered dress was definitely a hit!

Real Style: Brooklyn
Hey!
So this weekend I was hangin' tough as per usual in BK, and happened across an event sponsored by Fashion Bomb friend Harriet's Alter Ego...
Every month they have a 'Block Party' featuring independent designers, and anyone interested is invited to come eat, shop, mingle, and listen to music.
I had to take a picture of this lovely young attendee...
...who was wearing a cute shirtdress along with a fedora, straw bag and bejeweled flat sandals.
When asked about her outfit, she admitted that she had stayed the night with her boo, and decided to pop on one of his shirts, belt it, and go.
Quite creative, no?
What do you think of this edition of BK Real Style?

Fashion, News, and What Nots: Vogue's July Issue
So I was pleased to receive the July issue of Vogue Magazine in my mailbox.
Why?
I knew that this was the issue where they would publish letters regarding the whole Lebron/Giselle/King Kong snafu.
I knew there had to be at least a handful of reader letters, and I was ready to delve in...and I was reading to see if perhaps the magazine would issue an apology.
I looked at the Editor's Note...no sign.
Then I looked in the letters section:
And saw two letters.
One was from Christine Fox, who says plaintitively, "I'm an African-American woman who sees nothing wrong with the cover...I know there has been a lot of buzz about it, and folks are outraged, but it's ridiculous! It is just fashion...dahling...don't judge a book by it's cover." A voice, true, but one that was a minority, right? When I blogged about it briefly here, only a couple of you said "What's the big deal?" And mind you, this was a cover written about in the Chicago Tribune, Women's Wear Daily, and ABC News.
The second letter published in Vogue was from Stephanie Jackson. She says, "The April cover bothers me...More devastating than the perpetuation of stereotypes in mainstream culture is the dismissal of the counterargument as if it doesn't make sense. If controversial imagery rubs a minority group the wrong way, shouldn't the appropriate response be an apology?"
She brings up a good point: shouldn't there have been an apology??
Then I kept flipping, and found it. Sort've. There's an article in there called "Is Fashion Racist?"
Basically it profiles Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, and rising star Arlenis.
It talks about their fortuitious careers, then basically recaps the past three "Blacks in Fashion" talks that The Fashion Bomb has been covering since last September.
It also has a beautiful spread profiling all the instances in Vogue history with black models (maybe taking a cue from Italian Vogue).
Was that the apology? To be like...here, we see you, we know the issues, we get it??
I guess so.
But something just seemed very lame about it all.
I applaud their effort to quell the fire, and do see that PR powerhouse Bonnie Morrison is pictured in the Index Section...
...Jourdan Dunn makes another appearance in Andre Leon Talley's 'Life with Andre' section...
And our favorite African-American socialite Genevieve Jones is sprinkled into the Society pictures...
Good job?
Keep it up, I guess.
An apology would've been admitting guilt, right?
What do you think?
Mail Bombs: Reader Mail
Happy Friday!
Let's go!
Jay says, "I came across these cute shoes that Dania Ramirez is wearing..."
"...Could you please tell me who makes these shoes, and where I could get them?"
Sure! Dania is wearing these $645 Moschino T-Strap Peep Toe Sandals...
They used to be available at www.nordstrom.com, but seems they're sold out!
If you want, try hitting up www.moschino.com for stores, or slip these Betseyville Women's Valentin Sandals on for a similar look...
...Bonus, they're only $90 at www.endless.com.
Next up Nicky says, "I came across this picture of Rihanna on 106 & Park sporting the flyest shoes I've seen this year..."
"...Please tell me that you know the designer of these shoes and where they can be purchased! And if they're expensive, maybe you can find something similar? I really need them in my life!"
Well, I can tell you they're expensive! Rihanna's wearing these straight off the catwalk Balenciaga Spring 2008 Warrior Sandals...
...unless you're Rihanna, they may be a little out of budget. It's hard to find something exact, but you can get a similar gladiator look with these $130 Jeffrey Campbell Liza Sandals...
...get this pair at www.nordstrom.com.
Subira says, "I saw a pic of Beyonce in this splendiferous yellow dress while out with her boo this weekend, and I MUST have something like it! Like Beyonce, I am curvy but am not a fan of draping myself in all black..."
"I'm a small on top but large on the bottom, 5'10...can you help??"
Try these for a Beyonce like look:
1. Max Studio Dip Dyed Cotton Voile Tank Dress, $48. 2. Aqua Women's Jersey & Eyelet Dress, $88. 3. Milly Sun Embroidery Valetta Dress, $311.
Now for some wardrobe queries!
Try these:
1. Cynthia Rowley Lydia Oversized Patent Clutch, $195. 2. Linea Pelle Crimson Leather Angie Clutch, $72. 3. Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Clutch, $325. 4. Lacroix Red Suede Handbag, $192.Next, Bukky says, "My birthday is in a week and I've yet to get a dress. I'm a HUGE lover of animal prints and I found this beauty on Forever 21:"
"I'm planning to get it, BUT I don't know what shoes/accesory to wear with it...Can you help me achieve my dream outfit?"
Take a cue from Worine above, and pop on an oversized clutch in those colors. Complete the look with these sandals:Lastly, Cass says, "I need help! I'm going to an amusement park with my boyfriend and his teenage girls."
I dont know what to wear! How can I keep cool yet avoid looking like a teeny-bopper?"When dressing for an amusement park, it's better to focus on what not to wear. Don't rock a skirt unless you want to flash the crowds below on the roller coaster. Don't wear heels or uncomfortable shoes--those lines are brutal!! Lastly, don't wear jeans or anything too hot. Comfort is key, so do wear a t-shirt, tank, or polo with capris or shorts. If you're not a sneaker girl, go for stylish options. And try to wear something bright and photogenic for those cute pictures! A few suggestions:
1. Ultimate Tank in Stretch Solids, $12. 2. Ralph Lauren Country Club Polo, $80. 3. Fashion Bomb T-Shirt, $21. 4. Forever 21 Three Button Denim Short, $20. 5. Morgan Low Rise Skinny Short White, $29.50. 6. Charmer Knee Short in Denim, $111. 7. Puma Sabadella Sneaker, $65. 8. Adidas Gold Sneakers, $98.Have fun!
I'm going to NJ for the wknd...maybe I can convince my cousins to hit up Six Flags as well!
Have great weekends!

Style Nostalgia: Lauryn Hill + Italian Vogue
For this week's Style File, I decided to do a bit of a throwback on one of the decade's most beautiful women...
...Lauryn Hill.
She might be a little sad today...
...but don't front, in 1998, she was the hottest for her talent, beauty, and cool neo soul style that's still relevant today.
For red carpets she wore signature jackets in bold colors and prints:
...balanced out by tops and bottoms in solid standard colors.
She kept it casual in very subtle long dresses in neutral colors:...worn with or without glasses.
For photo shoots, she stayed polished in one shoulder tops or halters worn with bold jewelry:
See, one shoulder tops are timeless!
Want to replicate her throwback look?
Start with some cool jackets:1.Fashionista Brown Cropped Jacket, $180. 2. Soia & Kyo Cotton Belle Empire Jacket, $235.

*In this week's Thursday Styles, Cathy Horyn talks about the all black issue of Italian Vogue, photographed by Steven Meisel...
She says, "In a reverse of the general pattern of fashion magazines, all the faces are black, and all the feature topics are related to black women in the arts and entertainment. Mr. Meisel was given roughly 100 pages for his pictures. The issue will be on European newsstands next Thursday and in the United States soon after." And it will be in the Fashion Bomb Shop soon after ($20 + s&h Paypal Only). Get ready!Oh and a few scoops: Toccara (from ANTM) will grace a few pages. And Liya Kebede, Naomi Campbell, Sessilee Lopez, and Jourdan Dunn have been pegged for the cover.

Real Style: Harlem
Hey!
So I was chillin in Harlem this weekend...being a Brooklynite, I honestly never make the trek, so while up there I couldn't help but scout for fashionable people. I snapped these two young men:...from their graphic t-shirts to saggy jeans, Jordans, medallions, and hats, they epitomized real street style. I asked a few questions, and turns out they're actually part of Jim Jones' Diplomats Skate Team (called Dipskate). I wasn't too familiar, but sounds cool!
So what do you think of this representation of Harlem's style?

Hey!
This has been a very full week, but the show must go on...
...let's get started.
First up, Crystal fell in love with the dress Keyshia Cole wore to the 'If Looks Could Kill" event...
...she says, "It's so cute! I must have it!!!"
Keyshia is wearing this Tuvallu Dress by Diane von Furstenberg...
...get it for $325 at shopbop.com Next, Alexis says, "I was reading Essence mag a few days ago and came across this super cute dress Jordin Sparks was wearing..."
"...any way you'd be able to help me locate something similar?"
Couldn't find a dress just like Jordin's, but felt these high and low priced options came close:
1. Versace Round Neck Mini Dress, $930. 2. American Apparel Cross Front Poplin Dress, $36.
Next Mandy says, "I'm trying to find the outfit that Rihanna is wearing in this recent picture:"
"I Love It!!!! Can you help me get the look?"
Get her skater chic look with the following:
1. Scee Women's Tank, $62. 2. Calypso Sandie Tank, $55. 3. Forever 21 Iridescent Scarf, $7.80. 4. Armani Exchange White Lurex Jeans, $115. 5. Gotta Flurt No Lace Sneakers, $26.
Natalie from London says, "I'm wondering if you could help me find a dress similar to this..."
"In cream or gold for my prom in less than three weeks. Also, any suggestions on dresses that would look cute on a petite person (5ft)?"
Adriana says, "For your height, you're right: strapless and mini are the way to go. But you also might be able to pull off form-fitting and long, especially if you have an hour-glass shape..." She suggested the following:1. Edressme Strapless Bubble Dress, $94. 2. ABS Ivory Satin Pleated Bubble Dress, $140.
Yetunde comes with a Facebook query, saying, "I was wondering where I could find these pants..."
"... I've searched everywhere and I still cant find it....maybe you can help!"
We found these options:
1. LIPS Colette Trouser Jean, $45. 2. 18th Amendment Crawford High Waist Pant, $275. 3. Joe's Jean High Waist Seam Pant in Lola, $178.
Lastly, a contest! I received so many requests for this look....
...that I decided to make a game of it! Anyone who can tell me the designers of the dress and shoes Solange wore to TRL will win a bottle of Kimora's New Fragrance, Fabulosity...
...because you're fab! Get to work and e-mail me at thefashionbomb@gmail.com. I'll reveal the winner as soon as I have an answer!
And we have one! Reader Sheraime from Florida successfully found that Solange is wearing a tailored version of this Spring 2008 Miu Miu dress...
...topped off with these Pierre Hardy heels...
Congrats Sheraime! I'll be sending you a dose of Fabulosity very soon!

In addition to giving birth to a daughter a month ago, Jones Apparel Group just bought a stake in her clothing brand! What does this mean? More options (footwear, fragrance, accessories) and more affordable clothes! In WWD she says, "There's a whole world of women who love fashion and it should not be exclusive to women who can afford a $1,500 dress...it's really important to me to make a line more women can afford." Style File: Zoe Kravitz
Hey!
So for this week's Style File, I decided highlight celebrity offspring and girl around town...
...Zoe Kravitz.
Say what you will, but fortuitous genetics have produced a chic and sultry siren who has definitely found her own style even with the influences of Hollywood.
For red carpet events, young Zoe opts for anything from casual girly frocks......to more grown up fare of Chanel ensembles in black or white...
...or floor or knee length frocks in her signature green...
Ever the individualist, sometimes Ms. Kravitz leaves us scratching our heads in threadbare stockings and dusty boots...
...or by throwing on a racy sheer or bra top (that would get me slapped)!
But all in all, she's growing up into an elegantly graceful lady, with her own take on trends for the tween set.
Want her low key carpet look? Go with these:1. Jay Godfrey Sequined Chiffon Dress, $261. 2. ABS Yellow Pleated Floral Cotton Dress, $162. 3. Kay Unger New York Satin Shift Dress, $158.
Step it up in these:1. BCBG Max Azria Satin Strapless Dress, $240. 2. Silk Jersey Dress in Forest Green, $268. 3. Autumn Cashmere Sequin Halter Dress, $260.
Keep it casual rocker babe style in these:1. Braided Straw Fedora, $28. 2. Orthodox Orly Tunic in Slate, $184. 3. Buffalo Wedge, $10. 4. Siwy Medium Wash Billy Cut off Shorts, $55.

Morning Quickie: Essence/Toyota Event
Hey!
So last night I was delighted to attend an event sponsored by Essence and Toyota for a new online series called "If Looks Could Kill." The night promised a fashion show by Ghita (Alexis Phifer's line) plus a performance by Keyshia Cole, so you know I was there! While waiting for everything to get started, I of course had to take pictures of a few fashionable people in the crowd (there were so many!)
Kerry from the clothing line Save Your Vanity (www.saveyourvanity.com) was in the house with a cute YSL belt and vintage Fendi clutch. Sometimes accessories can make your outfit!
Ayoka, who was blogging for Essence that night, looked stunning in a vintage off the shoulder batwing teal dress.
Alanzo of the blog Minority Report (www.theminorityreportnyc.blogspot.com) literally stole my preppy heart in a kelly green big pony polo with madras pants. Love it! His friend worked bold accessories in a fedora, clutch, and wide red belt.
And lastly, this self professed Fashion Bomb Fan worked a very saucy strapless orange dress with mustard shoes and a Louis Vuitton bag.
Y'all are so cute!
Eventually I had to settle in for the show. A few Ghita looks:
Consisting of jersey cocktail length dresses with grecian draping on the shoulders and bodice, the collection was characterized by a muted color palette of white, blue, and beige, with pops of neon color in belts and straps. The final walk:
Ghita's collection was simple and understated, yet the ruching and draping of fabric was alluring and sexy. I'd wear an off the shoulder Ghita frock for a night out on the town with sky high stilettos (when I can).
So all in all the event was fun! I had the pleasure of sitting with and chatting up Rocsi from 106 & Park..I literally ate all the food at her table and she was a great sport.
I also had the chance to meet Alexis backstage....

New Feature: My Favorite Things
Hey!
So starting today, The Fashion Bomb will debut a new feature called: My Favorite Things. Ever wonder what a stylist demands in their closet? Or even what your fellow readers can't live without? This feature will tell you just that.
To bless the first installment, I decided: Why not start with me?
I've already revealed a few of my obsessions--Cole Haan Nike Air shoes, Oh Deer shoes, and Fantasie's Smoothing Strapless--but my summer wardrobe invites a whole new slew of items:
Diane von Furstenberg wrap dresses are a must for a day at work or a night on the town, accessorized with colorful bangles, cascading necklaces, and hoop earrings. For the weekend, j'adore my James Perse Tees for their amazing fit (nevermind the pricetag) or throwing on a breezy American Apparel Jersey dress for a day in the park. With my recent foot surgery, flats are still necessary, so I stick to saucy gladiator styles. With bags, I go with neutrals, but spice it up with metallics or a pop of yellow. And can't forget my Gucci shades!!
My picks: Gucci Oversize Square Sunglasses, $270; Enamel Bamboo Hoop Earrings, $18; J.Crew Cashmere Shrunken Shawl Cardigan, $120; Diane Von Furstenberg Justin Wrap Dress, $243; Exotic Bangles, $12; Elliott Lucca Carvela Shopper, $328; James Perse Vintage V-Neck Tee, $55; Tory Burch Suzi Straw Croco Clutch, $300; American Apparel Fine Jersey T Dress, $26; Katie Costello "Lauren" Necklace, $270; Jeffrey Campbell Jaya Sandal, $98.
This isn't a beauty blog, but I still have my summer makeup picks! A short list:
I'm a Caribbean Girl so I like to keep it colorful with pops of unexpected colors like Maybelline's Blue Royal Great Lash mascara, a neutral eye with a hint of Nars Colored Eyeliner on the lower lid, or even a fun MAC eyeshadow. I favor a neutral lip with lipglass like MAC's Nymphette, and also keep the sweat and shine at bay with Shue Uemera blotting papers. Gucci Rush's top notes of Gardenia, Fressia, and Patchouli provide a sensual burst of fragrance.
My picks: Gucci Rush Eau de Toilette Spray, $60; Nars Colored Eyeliner in Turquoise Blue, $20; Maybelline Royal Blue Great Lash Mascara, $5; MAC Eyeshadow, $14 each; Shu Uemura Blotting Papers, $12; MAC Lipglass in Nymphette, $14.
What are some of your favorite things?

Mail Bombs
Hey!
I'm actually out of town, so I'm going to keep this post super short!!!
Thankfully the interns were helpful, so it'll go quickly!
First, King says, "Where can I get this dress?"
According to the hot site Black Style Central, Tracee is wearing this Prada 2008 Spring Collection Dress:
Go to www.prada.com for store locations.
Next, Shana says, "I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY love this gold linked choker Rihanna is wearing and I have been looking for the same one for quite sometime."
"... I was wondering if you could find this for me or something similar??"
This one was hard to find, though I think I found a few that came close:1. Kenneth Jay Lane 16 Gold Twist Tube, $102. 2. Dookie Monster Triple Link Chain, $48. 3. Curb Chain Choker, $450.
Melody says, "Hey this is a hot outfit Ashanti's wearing..."
"...where could one find this? Thanks!"
Get her cute look by combining the following:1. Leo & Sage White Pima Cross Banded Tank, $38. 2. Cotton Gauze Tunic, $24. 3. Sailor Shorts, $135. 4. Adam White Stretch Twill Shorts,$111.
If you don't want to coordinate two pieces, you can go with this Fremont Romper:
...get it for $264 at www.revolveclothing.com.
In another Ashanti Mail Bomb, Najah says, "I was on cruising the web and saw this amazing dress Ashanti was wearing when she rang the NYSE Opening Bell..."
" I've attached the photo to see if you can lock it down or something similar."
These dresses come close:
1. Juicy Couture Trim Smocked One Shoulder Dress, $228. 2. Tracy Reese One Shoulder Frock, $265. 3. Little Joe by Gail Elliott Schiffer One Shoulder Dress, $315.
Lastly Mataya says, "I ADORE Leighton Meester's wardrobe for Gossip Girl, particularly this AMAZING blue dress..."
"...If you could find these dresses or cheaper similarities that would be great! Thanks!" Adriana searched and found that Leighton is wearing this $150 Bettie Page Dress....
Get a similar look with these:1. China Towner Vintage Sailor Mini Dress, $40. 2. Navy Blue Sailor Betty Dress, $60.
I'm off to enjoy my vacay!
Have great weekends!

Summer Work Wardrobe Guide, Part 3: Men's Fashion
Hey!
So today, we're going to divert a bit from our usual fare with something for the fellas!!!
Believe it or not, the Fashion Bomb has its fair share of male readers...And if you look at the typical offerings, we've been very unfair to our men!
Jordan, an aspiring fashion buyer wrote in recently, saying, "I have seen your pieces on summer wardrobe for the ladies who are working and interning, and they are lovely. However, as a Big-and-Tall male on a budget, I am kind of pressed for options. So I, as a Fashion Bomber, am begging for some advice. What types of outfits should I wear? Where can I get clothes that are fashion-forward yet timeless, urban-sophisticated-chic yet inexpensive, youthful yet professional???"
The interns and I collaborated to you give you men your summer work wardrobe guide.
Enjoy!
The first wardrobe must:
1. A Hot Suit
Adriana says, "The dress code for buyers can vary. A big part of the job is frequently meeting with either vendors, executives, or the corporate division of your company, so you want to err on the "business" side of the business casual dress code that's the standard in most places. When looking for a suit, Barneys, for instance, is a very fashion forward retailer and you can probably find more of a Paul Smith or Prada aesthetic there (skinnier pants, more form-fitting shirts, funky turtlenecks). A middle-market company like Macy's is likely to be more conservative and corporate, so you can find straight-legged (as opposed to skinny) slacks. Hugo Boss suits fit wonderfully on most big and tall men (the drop of the suit is American as opposed to European, which means it's roomier but Hugo Boss cuts it so that it doesn't appear boxy). Also, invest in at least one good one."
Got that? Try these:
1. Hugo Awe/Holl Two Button Suit, $795. 2. Prada Men's Suit, $808. 3. Baird McNutt Linen Suit, $250. 4. Emporio Armani Two Button Peak Lapel Suit, $555. 5. David Mayer Suit, $268.
If a full on suit blazer is too much, you can always opt for a...
2. Suit Vest:
Suit vests still tread the line of conservative chic and are a lot cooler (temperature wise) than full on blazers. Try these options:
1. Mason Plaid Vest, $44.50. 2. Year Solid Suiting Vest, $98. 3. Heritage Herringbone Suit Vest, $129.
Another way to punch it up:
3. Bright Colored Shirt
Adriana says, "I have a colleague who dresses mostly very conservatively except that he chooses the most lively dress shirt colors to punch up his outfits. Tangerine, plum, and kelly green are just some of the ones I've seen on him. He tends to choose grey or tan trousers and very good quality, simple ties to anchor the outfit so it doesn't become too garish looking."
Aramide found these options:
1. Banana Republic Solid Texture Stripe Dress Shirt, $49. 2. Ted Baker MultiStripe Shirt, $75. 3. Hickey Freeman, $96. 4. Gucci Red Striped Point Collar Dress Shirt, $264.
3. Scarves:
As Kanye shows, scarves are simple ways to add a personal touch to an otherwise subdued suit or shirt and tie combo. Tie on an expensive Gucci or play it cool with an eye-catching red stole:1. Gucci Grey Wool Stripe Scarf, $180. 2. Forzieri Solid Silk Scarf, $64. 9. 3. Emporio Armani Bias Cut Plisse Scarf, $88. 4. Louis Vuitton Celeste Scarf, $160.
4. Zip Front Jacket or Anorak:
You'll need a cute, easy jacket for more casual office days (or to keep the chill away late at night):1. Scotch and Soda Nylon Jacket, $132. 2. Shades of Greige Denim Jacket, $143. 3. Gap Military Jacket, $68.
5. Shoes
Adriana says, "You should never skimp on a pair of shoes. With men's shoes, good ones will last you ages. The best crafters are usually British or Italian. John Lobb (the gold standard of good British men's shoes), Jeffery-West (a funkier take on the classic British shoe), Bruno Magli, and Bally are all good bets. For affordable, good quality alternatives, try Cole-Haan and Kenneth Cole":1. Gucci Lace Up, $595. 2. Kenneth Cole Leather Loafer, $131. 3. Ferragamo Patent Boot, $650. 4. John Lobb Lace Up Oxford, $1,500. 5. Gucci Bamboo Horsebit Mocassins, $316. 6. Cole Haan Air Geoffrey Lace Up, $245.
For the final touch, don't forget...
6. Sunglasses
Instantly up the style ante for your outfit outdoors with a pair of dark, sexy frames:1. Tom Ford Black Andre Sunglasses, $398. 2. Boss Hugo Boss Men's Metal Top Bar Aviators, $145. 3. D&G Large Uni Lens Sunglasses, $266. 4. Triple Bar Fashion Aviator, $70.
Men, take note! And ladies, kindly show this to the men in your lives:)

Breaking into Fashion: Wouri Vice
Hey!
So for yet another Breaking into Fashion post, I decided to chit chat with Wouri Vice...
...stylist to chanteuse Alicia Keys.
A friend of Ms. Keys since high school, Vice used his spectacular and undeniable flair for fashion to take Alicia from her days of braids and fedoras to the sleek sophistication we see today:Even as he was preparing outfits for Alicia Keys' next video, he took a moment to talk to The Fashion Bomb on how he got his start.
Wouri always had a fashionable eye. "In high school I was the kid with one green sock and one blue sock because I was wearing blue and green." He went to college for fashion journalism, but after too many boring lectures on Plato and the philosophy of style, he decided to follow his true passion. "I started making clothes for student groups. When I came home during the summer, I worked as an intern at Giorgio Armani." He followed his Armani internship with several more with prominent stylists. He came to style for Alicia after reconnecting post high school. He says, "I used to tell Alicia that I would be a huge stylist and she would be a big singer. I told her I would be her stylist, and we laughed. But now you see how things came around..."
A typical week for Wouri involves everything from thinking up concepts to going on market appointments. For a video, he says, "I'm given a treatment and a concept, then call Alicia to see what she wants." After figuring out the colors, fabrics, and silhouettes Ms. Keys favors, Wouri gets to work. He says, "I do research. I see what’s out there in fashion land that suits what is being requested. I set up market appointments, see what’s available, send out requests, then conclude it all with fittings for her."
If you haven't noticed, Alicia's style has done almost a 180 in recent years. What's changed? "The evolution you see is my growth a stylist, pushing envelopes and being able to do new things. You’re also seeing her evolution as an artist, someone who is willing to let her hair down. She says, “Maybe I’ll wear a mini dress or tight jeans today." It’s gotten down to her saying, 'If I like it, I like it, I don’t care what critics have to say.' As time went on, she became more simplistic. Took off the hat and the beads, and the gloves, and just stayed simple, beautiful Alicia."
For those aspiring for a similar position, Wouri says, "Don’t give up on yourself. Stay in prayer. Follow your dreams. People are gonna try to knock you down. There’s always someone in the background, so be confident in what you can do." Apt words.

YSL Tribute: Modern Pantsuits
“For a woman, le smoking is an indispensable garment with which she finds herself continually in fashion, because it is about style, not fashion. Fashion’s come and go, but style is forever."--Yves Saint LaurentAfter hearing the news of Yves Saint Laurent's passing, I decided to pay homage to his memory by writing about one of his major contributions to fashion:
Le Smoking.A feminized version of the male tuxedo, le smoking debuted in 1966 and was reinvented and redone every season as Yves's signature silhouette. He revolutionized the industry by being the first to put women in masculine tailoring...
And contemporary women continue to pay honor to his legacy in sleek, form fitting pantsuits:
Iman where's a black sequined version with ribbon tie belt...
Amerie modernizes the look with a decolette vest, sans shirt...Chic!
If you want the look, splurge with the following options:
1. Just Cavalli Suit, $944. 2. Gucci Women's Suit, $2,650. 3. Fabrizio Lenzi Suit, $720.Save with these:

... Naomi Campbell delivered a tearfelt tribute to YSL yesterday saying, "My first Vogue cover ever was because of this man...when I said to him 'Yves, they won't give me a French Vogue cover, they won't put a black girl on the cover,' he was like 'I'll take care of that,' and he did." [AFP]*And, it seems it has all come full circle. The Sunday Mail reported that Naomi Campbell will replace Kate Moss as the new face of Yves Saint Laurent. [Daily Mail]

Real Style: Sex and the City
Hey Guys!
So, you went, you saw...did you love???
Apparently a lot of you were super juiced about the flick. Tanasia writes, "I thought it would be cool to show you how "Carried Away" fans got for Sex and the City...."
"...Attached is a flick of me on opening night of the movie. Xoxo."
You look amazing! Lovin the white vest pantsuit, heels, and sequined bag!
So what do you think: Did Tanasia get carried away?
Smootches!
"... Instead of cleaning Carrie’s house, she cleans up her computer files (although she does help declutter the apartment, too). She admires her mistress in those beautiful outfits. And check out that smile when you give her a Louis Vuitton handbag! Please, Sex and the City, do not pretend you exist in the real multiracial world. White will always be your new black." Meow!!! While I was watching, I didn't really have a problem with JHud's character (save the marbles in her mouth accent). But what did y'all think? Were you happy with the 'sister' representation???*In other sad fashion news, legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent passed away this Sunday...
