Friday Mail Bombs + Contest

"Welcome to Atlanta where the playas play/And we ride on them things like every day/Big beats, hit streets, see gangsta's roamin'/And parties dont stop til' eight in the mornin'"--Ludacris, Welcome to Atlanta.

Wassup Shawties,
I am FINALLY in Georgia! Yesterday I spent all day in the dern airport because DELTA AIRLINES had clearly lost its mind...they were cancelling flights left and right, trying to rebook people for the next day. Insane. Anyway after spending 8 hours (can you believe it?) hanging out in the airport and one hour on the runway, I finally made it home.
When I got to Hartsfield, I peeped Shay and Cristal of Charm School fame...

Source
They ran by in a flash of multicolored weaves and clear plastic heels. I wasn't quick enough to snap a pic, but I reasoned that seeing them, if only for a moment, somewhat made it all worth it (totally kidding). Enough about me. Let's get to some mail bombs.

First up, reader Shamecia says, " I REALLY want to know the designer of the silver floor-length, belted gown that Beyonce wore on the Red Carpet for the BET Awards..."

"Can you or one of the fab new interns find it for me?"
Intern Elita is an ace at these, and she quickly found that Beyonce's dress was this Dolce & Gabbana frock...

...ripped from the runway of their Fall 2007 collection.
D&G loves the metallic look with the cinched belt. If you recall, Naomi Campbell similarly wore a silver Dolce and Gabbana gown...

...on her last day of community service (I wrote about it here). But um, does Beyonce steal looks as well as acts? You be the judge!
Next, reader Tamika says, "I heart Ciara's dress in this picture."

"... Can you find me something similar?"
Doing a quick search, I found something close in this Gold Pleated Trapeze Dress...

...available for $98 at www.ardenb.com.
Lastly, reader Marlea asks, "I just adore the dress that the model is wearing at the end of Akon's "Don't Matter" video."

"The print, length and kimono sleeves make it the perfect tropical vacation dress. Can you please find this for me?"
Elita championed this again, and says, "Figuring out who made that dress would be damn near impossible. But there are lots of people doing similar things for summer." She recommended the following:

Top Row: Rachel Pally Short Caftan Dress in Mexico, $255, www.pinkmascara.com; ABS by Allen Schwartz Print Kimono Dress, $178, www.nordstrom.com.
Bottom Row: Satin Basketweave Print Puff Sleeve Dress, $178, www.cache.com; Floral Print Kimono Dresses by Anjali Kumar, $308, www.edressme.com.
That does it for celeb queries. Now on to a few general questions.
First, Monique says, "I have to attend a work related multi-day golf and tennis outing this summer. I'm not into either sport, but want to look the part. Can you suggest some work appropriate, yet stylish pieces that would suit a curvy figure? Thanks!"
Of course! There's nothing I love more than prepping it out in tennis whites and golf gear. Keep it casual yet professional during the day in bermuda shorts and polo tops. For the evening, throw a cute cardigan over a simple, classic shift dress. My suggestions:

Top Row: Egyptian cotton nautical-net cardigan, $88, www.jcrew.com; Joe's Jeans Bermuda Shorts, $152, shopbop.com
Bottom Row: BCBG Max Azria Pleated Shift, $180, www.nordstrom.com; Lacoste Sleeveless Piqué Polo, $68, www.bloomingdales.com.
Next, The Fashion Bomb enthusiast Lily says, "HI! :) I'm looking for a certain dress. I saw it on a girl at a concert and I have yet to see anything similar to what she had. It's a knee length, form fitting dress with three quarter-length sleeves. The top was a boat neck cut. If you could please help me find something similar to this dress I'd love you forever!"
Well Lily, you can shower some of that love on Elita, who found a few dresses that came close. We were both fans of this $168 French Connection 'Dutel' Jacquard Shift Dress...

...from www.nordstrom.com.
She also found this...

...$48 Lux Deep Scoopback Dress at www.urbanoutfitters.com. It packs a punch...

...with a sexy back detail. Hot!
Lastly, a young lady who calls herself, 'Frantic in Dallas' says, "Ok so I have a wedding to attend on 7-7-07 (is everyone getting married on that day??) and my ex boyfriend and his present girlfriend will be in attendance, needless to say I need to look fabulous! I have in mind a fitted strapless dress but have not been able to find what i am looking for. Do you have any ideas of a classy yet sexy evening dress for me?"
So you'll want to knock your exes socks off without being too obvious. Since it's a wedding, I'd say keep the silhouette classic in strapless, shift, or babydoll shapes. You can stand out in skin illuminating bright colors and prints. And flash a little leg:) Try these:

Top Row: Silk Woven Print Flutter Sleeve Dress, $98, www.bebe.com; Laundry by Shelli Segal Print Chiffon Halter Dress, $255, www.nordstrom.com.
Bottom Row: Nicole Miller Strapless Print Silk Sheath, $410, www.nordstrom.com; Diane von Furstenberg "Ayuka" Trapeze Printed Mini Dress, $345, www.bloomingdales.com.
Make him nostalgic. And you better catch that bouquet:)
Now for a small contest!
There comes a time when neither I nor the interns can figure it out. We struggle, and search, but come up short. And that's when we open it up to you.
The readers who can find the make of Rihanna's dress in this picture (for Renee)

...and the designer of Lauren London's dress here (for reader Nicole)...

...will win a faux pearl bracelet, necklace, and earring set from the website, All Girls Love Pearls (www.allgirlslovepearls.com)

...in any color you like. Choose any length, color, or setting you want! Pearls are a classic foundational piece in every girls wardrobe. They go with everything. So get to searching!
Have great weekends. I'll try to survive Hotlanta:)

Curvy Girl Style: Reader Submission

Happy Thursday!
As you're reading this, I'm on a plane to Atlanta to visit my peeps. I'll be updating, though, no worries!
So last week I did a Real Style Intervention Diary for one of my best friends from the A, Liana.

Liana is a curvy cutie, and while shopping with her, I noticed how hard it was to find affordable clothes that suited her hot bod.
A few readers---well actually one--wrote in, saying that while I had trouble shopping with Liana, she personally found lots of items that flattered her voluptuous frame.
The reader in question, Pretty Girl, said, "I am a size 16 and I do not have that many problems finding clothes, I think I do better than the girls who are a size 6. I don't understand why you think it is soo hard for the voluptous to find anything, maybe it was just the figure your friend had. I find things at the last minute all the time and I live in the weakest, smallest city in the MidWest (Milwaukee). Do not put us all in the category of "I'm curvy and I can't find anything to fit me." Shop at stores that cater to women with curves, which is not H&M."
Well, alright, then!
After reading that, I asked for submissions from readers who champion the curvy look with style and ease.
One brave reader, Tawanda, sent in pictures to show us how it’s done!

She says, "I'm a size 12-14 and I shop all over the place! If I'm looking for work clothes that aren't that expensive then I'll usually go to New York and Company. For Jeans I love Demo and Torrid and H&M. Macy's has good dresses as does Charlotte Russe. That where I bought both of the dresses I'm wearing."

She continues, "I try not to buy anything too clingy and I'm a firm believer in Spanx."

Spanx Power Panties, $25, http://www.spanx.com/.
"Even the most expensive outfit will look bad with lumps and bumps. I don't try to wear prints that are too small and too busy because I personally don't feel that bigger girls can carry that off. I love colors though especially for the summertime! When buying jeans I make sure that there is some sort of stretch material in the jeans. It makes them fit better to your body."

She warns, "Not all baby doll dresses/shirts/tunics are a good thing. I think a lot of curvy girls like them because they can hide a big tummy. If you're not careful some of them will make you look bigger then you actually are (or worse pregnant)."
Some sound advice from a very chic chick!
You can tell she emphasizes her assets by wearing belts that cinch in at the waist, v-neck items that draw the eye towards the center of her body, and darker, slimming colors.
Like her look? If so, a few recommendations:

Top Row: Sweet Pea by Stacy Frati Sleeveless Mesh Dress, $108, http://www.nordstrom.com/; ING Plus Sizes Belted V-Neck Top, $40, http://www.macys.com/.
Bottom Row: Smock Dress, $49, http://www.victoriassecret.com/; l.e.i. Grey And White Plaid Bermuda Short, $25, http://www.torrid.com/.
So what do you think? Does she show and prove for curvy girls?

White Party+ BET Awards

Hey Babes,
So if you’re like me, you have some sort of all white event to attend next week for 4th of July. And if you’re also like me, you’ve been procrastinating like *crazy* getting your outfit together (Eek!).
The delay, for me, is with good reason. My friends and I were talking…and though all white seems easy to do, you have to consider that you a.) want to stand out, b.) would DIE if anyone else had your outfit on (hello!), and c.) don’t want to look like a 12-year-old or d.) a marshmellow.
In searching for outfit inspiration, I, of course, looked to celebs:
If you're more of a 'dont' want to rock the boat' kind of chick, you can go with a classic, simple spaghetti strap dress like Ms. Selita Ebanks...

...a v-neck knee grazer with a gathered bodice a la Elise Neal...

...or a subtle, sophisticated white suit like Queen Latifah...

... shimmery camisole optional.
If you're more like me, you'll want to wear white with a bit more of a twist.
Kimora Lee shows us how it's done in a long sleeved dress that looks pretty plain in front...

...only to pack quite the punch in back...

...hot!
Tanned to perfection Nia Long also shows us a different way to go blanc in a delicate keyhole belted tunic...

...worn over light gold metallic shorts.
Still need ideas? Try focusing less on the outfit itself, and more on how you can set yourself apart with eye catching accessories. A distinctive shoe, cascading necklace, or light reflecting bauble are guaranteed showstoppers.
Nicole Richie's red pumps add a certain je ne sais quoi to her run of the mill snow white frock...

Tons of gold accessories, including multiple bangles, stiletto sandals, and sequined clutch make J. Lo's jumper more alluring...

...and unique belts spell u-p-g-r-a-d-e for Ciara...

..and Beyonce...

Cute.
Need a few recommendations?? I got you:
First the outfit:

Top Row: LaRok Palm Tree Top in Cream, $187, CoutureCandy
Super Sequins Dress, $198, www.frenchconnection.com; Walter Jacquard Swirl Shirt Dress in White, $275, CoutureCandy
Middle Row: Ella Moss Admiral Dress, $163, www.pinkmascara.com ; Piped Metallic Shorts, $45, www.ardenb.com ; Picqué Pant Suit, $79, www.spiegel.com.
Bottom Row: Metallic Linen Jumpsuit, $24.80, www.forever21.com ; Polished Short Sleeve Jacket, $118, www.whitehouseblackmarket.com; Rachel Roy Layla One Shoulder Top, $445, shopbop.com
And of course, can't forget the accessories!

Top Row:
Michael Michael Kors ivory striped 'Montauk' belt
, $29, www.bluefly.com; Kenneth Jay Lane Pyramid Bracelets, $98, www.maxandchloe.com
Bottom Row: Chinese Laundry Brass Sandals, $63, zappos.com
Elissa Bloom Jewel Pouch, $41.60, www.ebags.com
Now you have tons of options. Now go on... wear summer white with style!
Smootches!
Video Throwback:
Whenever I think of all white, I think of Aaliyah's amazingly beautiful video for 'Rock the Boat' (I actually choreographed a dance to this back in the day...didn't know I was a dancer, did ya?)…

…Doesn't it seem like it was just yesterday that Aaliyah was topping the charts?? I still love this song...R.I.P Aaliyah!
PS So the BET awards were on last night…I didn’t watch it (no cable, ack!), but I was able to peep a few pics online. Of course I have a few favorites…
Ms. Keys...

...certainly stepped her game up in the slate colored floor skimming gown with jeweled neck accents.
Ciara...

...looked toned and trim in this trapeze style gray cocktail dress.
Kelly....

...was smoking hot in this beaded number.
And our good girl gone bad, Rihanna...

...showed us again how to rock all white with flair.
Everyone came correct, but my absolute favorite was…

Eva! She looked smashing in this technicolored long gown. The multiple colors played well off of her tanned skin, brown eyes, and dark brown tresses.

Gorgeous.

Intern Stylefile: Kerry Washington + New Line Alert

Happy Tuesday!
Intern Suzie hits us with a Stylefile on actress Kerry Washington. Enjoy!
Hey Guys!
Suzie here, so sorry for disappearing on you! I was in London (on business)...and you know I had to stop in Burberry and exercise my credit cards:) Anyway, I'm here to profile one of my fave actresses, style icons, and Essence Cover Girl...

...Ms. Kerry Washington. She is a consummate lady and a fashionista to boot. Let's take a look.
Kerry pays close attention to details in beautiful gowns accented with embroidery, beads, and embellishments...

And as you can see Kerry is a total fan of scintillating colors like fuchsia....

Eye popping orange...

Punchy Pink...

And powder blue...

While she dabbles in color, blacks, whites and greys also play a huge part in her wardrobe...

Beautiful.
Want to recreate a Kerry Washington look for less? Try the following:

On the left: Sheer Rosebud Dress, $24.80, www.forever21.com.
Right Hand Side, Top to Bottom: 2.75" hoops in silver, $5, www.girlprops.com; Patent Clutch with Bow, $7.50, www.target.com; Kilty Flats, $60, www.stevemadden.com.

~Suzie
Great Job Suzie! Love Kerry Washington...
Anyway I also had to jump in to tell you about a new t-shirt line one of my colleagues, Janet Kim, recently created called Graey. She says she started her collection to, "incorporate couture details into affordable ready-to-wear." Her Spring '07 collection is comprised of, "tanks and tees embellished with a couture technique where lace is embroidered onto the fabric and the original fabric is cut away on the back to reveal what's underneath." Take a look:

Left to Right: Crown Tee, $88; Lace Tee, $110; Black Lace Tank, $55.
Tres chic.

Real Style

Hey,
So moving was tough, but it's coming along...my clothes are still in boxes (boo!), but hopefully everything can be arranged soon enough! In the meantime wanted to hit you with a bit of Real Style. I ran into this guy last week in Soho, and had to snap a picture...

...he said his look was a mixture of Flavor Flav, Will Smith, and Steve Urkel. I kinda liked his throwback steeze...he was definitely bringing the 80's back full force with his glasses, suspenders, hat, and shoes. Oh yeah, and can't miss the large clock swinging from his neck!
Anyway, what do you think? Are you digging his look?
Smootches!
PS Anyone know how to put together Ikea furniture?!? I swear this one device is missing like...10 critical parts!! Help!
PSS Is this for real??
My friend just sent me a link to this website, called www.ebon-aide.com

...apparently they sell band-aids, made in brown shades. If it’s legit, it’s a very cool idea!
PSSS A few friends of mine own a company called Seasoned to Perfection, which specializes in trendy, affordable, one of a kind vintage women's clothing. They’re having their first sale this weekend in Harlem and Brooklyn.

I’m going back home to the A this wknd, so won’t be able to attend. But you definitely should look into it! Vintage...so fetch.

Get Your Stunna Shades On

"Gucci shades up on my braids when I Escalade/When I'm riding Sprewells sliding like a escapade/I got it made the big boss of the north/Ain't ish changed I still represent Swisha House." Mike Jones, "Still Tippin."
When it's bright and sunny outside, there's no better way to accessorize your summer wardobe than with a pair of cute, face flattering stunna shades...

The right sunglasses, chosen carefully, can instantly upgrade and 'chic'-ify your look.
Before you run to the store, know that there's actually a method to picking the perfect pair. Let's take a look at a few of our fave celebs to see how it's done:
Ms. Kelly...

...J.Lo...

..and Rihanna...

...all don sunglasses with rounded frames to balance and complement their angular jawlines. Doing so adds a bit of softness to their more straight edged facial features.
On the other hand, women with rounder faces like Eve...

...and Mariah...

...look more balanced with the opposite: angular more boxy shade shapes that lend a little edge to their softer features.
Unsure of your face shape?
Classic aviator sunglasses look good on almost everyone. Ciara...

...and Zoe Saldana...

Know what's up.
And if you're feeeling playful, don't be afraid to experiment with color. Get creative with a pair of orange shades like Nicole Richie...

Or mix it up more with a retro pair of white sun-specs a la Kelis...

Cute.
Need a few ideas? Try the following:

Top Row: Ray Ban Original Aviator Sunglasses, $119, http://www.eluxury.com/; Royal Flush Sunglasses, $38, http://www.anthropologie.com/.
Bottom Row: Kenneth Cole Rev-eye-vul Sunglasses, $98, http://www.kennethcole.com/; Dior Glossy Large Sunglasses, $260, www.eluxury.com.
I threw in a pair of Dior specs for you divalicious babes out there. Now get those stunna shades on!
Smootches!
PS Intern Elita says, "According to Fashionista.com there is a Rachel Roy sample sale going on today and tomorrow from 12-7 at 25 W. 39th St, 14th floor."

So Elita was right! Rachel Roy is having a sample sale, and I dropped in briefly while running errands. The prices were a little higher than expected...shirts from $50-$100 and dresses starting at $150. Also, forget about sizes. I couldn’t find a button down bigger than a size 8, or a dress bigger than a medium. But I did manage to leave with one Grecian gathered cotton top (perfect with some skinny jeans) and a work ready white ruffle trimmed sleeveless sweater for $150. Bonus: Totally saw Damon Dash! Don’t you hate when you see a celebrity...and you’re all cheesing...and you expect them to know who you are cuz you know who they are...but you just end up looking lame (meanwhile, they’re like who’s this crazy person staring at me?) ANYWAY, celeb sightings aside, it was worth it. Rachel's clothes are so pretty, even a simple top will upgrade your wardrobe. Hit up her sale. It’s going on until tomorrow!

Stylefile: Beyonce en Vacances

"The summertime, when we fell in love it was/The summertime, when heaven shined on us it was/The summertime, baby there is nothing like/The summertime (summertime) oooh oohhoo..."Beyonce, "Summertime"
So every summer I see pictures of beautiful Beyonce luxuriating, tanning, and eating...

...at some lush resort in a remote part of the world. Out of any other celeb, Beyonce knows how to hang by the beach in a super stylish way!
Let's take a look:
Beyonce flaunts her amazing body in string bikinis in shades like lime green...

...classic black with turquoise jewels...

...and flattering yellow.

While she may be a bit scandalous/slutacious poolside, she keeps it demure elsewhere by sporting cute sarongs...

...flowing pastel cotton skirts...

...embellished tunics...

...all topped off with cute accessories like sun shielding straw hats.

Hot.
Got a vacay coming up soon? Channel Bey with the following items:

Top Row: Paisley Print Tunic, $55, www.bloomingdales.com; Diane von Furstenberg Bursano Rose String Bikini, $112, www.saks.com.
Bottom Row: Small Solid Amagansett tote, $20, www.jcrew.com; Ladies Straw Hat, $6.50, www.target.com.
Now just pop on a pair of embellished flats and have some fun in the sun!
Smootches!

PSSS Didn't hit up T. Reese or Shoshanna... Did you go? Was it worth it? Should I work it?

Real Style Intervention Diary

"Friends may come and friends may go/But you should know that/That I've got your back, it's automatic/So never hesitate to call/Cuz I'm your sister and always for ya and I/I don't know what I'd ever do without you/From the beginning to the end/You've always been here by my side/So I'll call you my best friend."--Brandy, "Best Friend".
Hey Guys!
So this past weekend, my bestest bud from 4th grade, Liana...

...came to visit me!
She's from Atlanta, which, while lauded for its crunk music, isn't quite as well known for fashion. Liana came to NYC looking to add a dash of style to her wardrobe, and I figured...who best to deliver it to her?!?!
We were hitting the town all weekend, and she needed outfits for the various dinners, club hops, and social events I had planned. She also wanted to indulge in a bit of Canal street shopping, so I figured I'd take her to the Soho strip (Q to Canal Street, R to Prince Street)...

...to see what we could see.
With only 3 hours before our next event, we hit the pavement. But of course there were a few caveats. I asked, what's the most you'd spend on a top? At first she said, "I'll pay whatever as long as it looks good." So I was like, "You'd pay $80 for a top?" And quickly she changed her tune. Turns out, the most she'd spend on a top was $50, and the most she'd spend on a bottom was $60. Plus Liana is a voluptuous lady, so we had size concerns to deal with.
Instead of messing around with my favorite haunts like Bloomingdales or Club Monaco, we made a stop at H&M...

...for their reasonably priced, fashion forward offerings.
I decided I'd look for a few club tops, and tried to only pluck ones that didn't have clingy material, flowed over her tummy, yet still had sort of a dressy element.
This gold top...

...looked like it had potential at first blush, but Liana quickly pushed it to the side, citing it was 'too gold and filmy.' (Don't you love the facial expressions?)
We liked this shirt/dress better...

...but I wasn't a fan of how it hugged her curves around her bottom. The neckline was flattering, but the bottom seemed lumpy.
This top...

...again, was too clingy, and though it had a silver sheen, it didn't scream 'I'm going out!' but more..."I'm going to the grocery store!" Didn't work.
But this zebra print flowy top...

...was just right! It had an eccentric print, and its sheer element was sexy enough for a night at Marquee. Plus the flowy fabric didn't cling to curves, and the neckline drew attention to Liana's face. We took a look at the price...and it was only $25! Well within our price range. So we checked out...

...and were on our way!
So I had Liana trying on those tops with white shorts, and thought that white jeans would look *great* with the zebra print top. I thought that we'd run a find a quick pair of jeans, and be on our way.
I chose to run into the Levi's store...

...because I knew they'd have a whole range of sizes for a reasonable price. Turns out they were having a sale, and every jean was $30! Perfect.
I grabbed a few pairs--short, long, and in varying widths--and we hit the dressing room. This size 14 pair...

....was too tight around the thighs and very low cut. This size up....

...was too low, had a weird crotch, and too short. No Dice!
We were short on time by now, and I figured we could run into Uniqlo...

...because I knew that they had inexpensive jeans and went up to a size 14.
Well the jeans there were an affordable $39.50, but Liana couldn't even pull em up over her thighs. For shame, Uniqlo! She did, however stumble upon this saucy black shirt dress...

...for $89.50. Out of our price range, but Liana loved how she felt in it, and I thought it was flattering. The black color was slimming, the vertical buttons on the dress elongating, and the style just worked well! So we checked out...

...and were done!

That night Liana ended up wearing her new zebra top with a pair of Baby Phat jeans she brought with her from home.

Beautiful!
Going shopping with Liana was an elucidating exercise. I didn't realize how hard it was for voluptuous women to find affordable jeans in your go-to stores. Heck, I didn't realize how hard it was voluptuous ladies to find *anything* stylish, fashionable, and well fitting. And last minute? Forget about it.
But I think I did an ok job, no?

Hey Guys!
So I was at my regular hang out this weekend and had the pleasure of running into these two lovely and stylish young ladies...

..and knew that just had to be on the Fashion Bomb. I was seduced by their rock star sunglasses, fashionably excessive accessories, and one of a kind 'fits. Also loved homegirl on the left's silver knuckle rings (she's actually the brains behind them, check her out at www.myspace.com/B3nyc), and the young lady on the right's fly Cadillac bag. I think I'm gonna need one of those. Soon.

Mail Bomb-aganza

Hey Guys!
It's a beautiful Friday in Gotham city! What better time for a mail bomb-aganza?!?

I promised you double the goodness, and with the help of my stellar interns, here it is. Let’s get to it!
First up, celeb queries.
Celina wrote in and said, "Recently I saw both Rihanna...

"...and Cassie..."

"... sporting these very beautiful stiletto pumps that I absolutely adore!!
If u would be sooo kind could you clue me in and help me find out the designer?? I would be so grateful!"

Hey Celina! Louboutin's are the hotness right now, and it seems both ladies are sporting these Louboutin Fishnet Pumps...

...available for $560 at www.barneys.com.
Reader Golden Honey wrote in weeks ago and proclaimed...
"Forget Solange's dress! I want to know if you can find me Beyonce's!"

"I love it! If not I'm getting it made."
So the 'terns and I searched and searched, but no dice! Intern Elita pointed out that bold patterns are all the rage for summer, which means there are lots of options out there.
She found a few substitutes like this McQ - Alexander McQueen Polka Dot Dress

...available for $500 at shopbop.com
Too much? We also stand by this less expensive Multi Color Dot Print Dress by S Sung...

...available for $248 at www.edressme.com.
Next up reader Janine says:
"I recently came across this beautiful yellow dress worn by Rosario Dawson while at Cannes."

"I love, LOVE this dress and I want it! Could you please help me find who makes it?? It's probably extremely expensive, so a cheaper alternative would be greatly appreciated!"
Hey Janine! You have amazing taste. I love yellow too!
The interns think the dress is Dolce & Gabbana. It might be, but I couldn't find any pictures of it from the runway. Searching, though I did find that this dress...

...from Tory Burch's Spring 2007 collection came close. If you want an option you can wear *now*, slap a belt around this $154 Diane Von Furstenberg 3/4 length dress...

...and you're good to go!
Next up Penne says, "This coat was mentioned by you in a previous blog but when I looked on www.shopbop.com I couldn’t find it."

"...Who made it? And do you know anywhere else I can purchase? I have to have it!!"
Hey Penne! The coat is Rachel Roy's Francesco Long Reversible Jacket. It used to be available on www.shopbop.com, but the season has passed. If you still want the same look, Elita suggests trying this Donna Karan Organza-Lined Trenchcoat...

...available for an exorbitant price at www.saks.com. Another option? Visit www.rachelroy.com for a store near you. Maybe she has a summer alternative!
Next up Jenny asks, "I sooo want a pair of pants with suspenders and I have no idea where to look. Please help!!!!!!"
Intern Elita also spearheaded this one and said, "Suspenders were a trend appearing in the Spring 06 collections of Marc Jacobs, Lacoste and Luella, but are a bit tougher to find now. Bluefly.com has these Marni cropped pants on sale for $300..."

These Robert Rodriguez pants would be great for work and are a steal at $75 but are only available in limited sizes...

..and shopbop has several styles to choose from:

Lauren Moffatt Suspender Shorts, $277

McQ - Alexander McQueen Suspender Engineer Stripe Shorts, $290
I also found these less expensive Dark State Raquel Suspender Shorts...

...for $69 at www.guess.com.
Lastly Candance says:
“Currently I'm looking for a job and would just like some style tips on what to wear to an interview. I want something more fashionable and
updated. PLEASE HELP!! ;)”

Hey Candace. Great question. I’m thinking that you’re interviewing for a position in a creative field. I’d say stick to traditional items with a twist. You can never go wrong with classic black and white, but in order to leave a good impression, spice it up a bit! Wear a button down shirt, but pop one on that has ruffles, a ribbon tie, or a cool collar. Wear a demure skirt, but make sure it has eye catching hem details like a fish tail, pleats or gathering. And sport accessories that pack a punch (i.e. instead of regular leather, wear something in a bright color or patent leather). These items should give you an idea of what to look for:

Top Row: L.A.M.B Devon Tote, $650, www.eluxury.com; Nexx Three Quarter Sleeve Pucker Shirt, $58, www.nordstrom.com; Tahari Tammy High Heel, $105, www.piperlime.com
Middle Row: Clean Bubble Skirt, $30, www.gap.com; Anna Corinna Glazed Leather City Tote, $468, shopbop.com
BCBGMAXAZRIA black bubble pleated pencil skirt, $78, www.bluefly.com
Bottom Row:
Veronica Shirt
, $50, www.fcuk.com; Nine West Lucero Pumps, $39.50, www.ninewest.com; Nanette Lepore 'Rendezvous' Dot Ruffle Blouse, $250, www.nordstrom.com.
You're a shoe in!

PS If I haven't answered your mail bomb yet, that either means that I a.) am working on it or b.) have no bleepin idea! But keep writing and I'll do my best to find stuff for ya. You're the bomb guys!

Style File Evolution Edition: Alicia Keys

"I'm not ashamed of what I am and that I have curves and that I'm thick...I like my body."--Alicia Keys.
Hey Guys!
This week's Style File profiles R&B crooner, pianist, and musician extraordinaire...

Alicia Keys.
Ms. Keys may not be the best dressed woman out there, but she has had a heck of a style evolution...especially when you consider how she used to roll.
Remember the corn rows...

..crazy hats...

...acid washed jean sets...

and beads...?

They were a hot mess! They simply took away from her gorgeous face.
Anything would've been an improvement...and now Ms. Keys more than passes the fashion bill with sleak looks and form flattering fits. Let's take a look:
For red carpets, Ms. Keys favors short or long strapless frocks in basic colors like black, white or cream...

And while her casual steeze sometimes throws back to her old days...

For the most part she holds it down with wrap dresses in bold colors:

Trench coats with red accessory accents...

...and bootcut or straight legged jeans with simple yet flattering tops...

Cute!
Want her look for less? Try these items:

Top Row: Driving Gloves, $26, www.bloomingdales.com; Laser Cut Poplin Tube Dress, $148, www.ardenb.com.
Bottom Row: Matte Jersey Wrap Dress, $69, www.victoriassecret.com; BCBGMAXAZRIA Ivory Crocheted Deep V-neck Sweater, $105, www.bluefly.com.

Real Style

Happy Monday!
So I clearly spend way too much time at Habana Outpost...but the place is fun, chill, and happens to have some of the best looking brown people around! I went yesterday and had to snap a pic of this young lady...

Her oversized blue-gray blouson top looks great over her distressed white jeans, and her accessories are fierce. Loved her chocolate brown Miu Miu bag with gold accents, 80's inspired specs, cute hat, and unique earrings.
What do you think?

Intern Chic Sheet : Slick Boardroom Style

Hey Guys,
So third and final TFB intern, Suzie, provided us with the last intern post for the week. Enjoy!

Suzie here! I am a born and bred Brooklynite, always on the lookout for the latest, wildest trends. I work in corporate America, so this post is for all my business chicks trying to add eclectic, wild and fun to conservative and stiff. I am into some really funky designers and lines like Free People, and A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz, Alexander McQueen, Alberta Ferrati, and Luisa Beccaria (such fun colors). I have had a secret passion for fashion since I saw Diana Ross in Mahogany, and now I hope to bring it to the limelight, baby!!
While there is nothing wrong with a black suit...

...sometimes a punch of color is very necessary.
Tracee Ellis Ross sports a work appropriate look...

...and rocks colors that complement one another without being overpowering.
Need more workplace ideas? Take a look at these powerful divas:

These ladies rock a conservative look that still manages to look fierce.
Another thing to think about: day to night wear. A club appropriate strapless dress like the one Bre's wearing here....

... can easily become business attire with a blazer, preferably in the same color and a pair of hot stilettos.
And the clutch? Use a cosmetics bag. But not just any old thing! After work I simply take my Louis Vuitton Cosmetic bag, wipe it down, stuff some essentials in, and am ready to go, go, go, go....

Rev up your workplace wardrobe with the following pieces...

Slim skirt with Satin kick pleat back, $82.99, www.catchafireclothing.com.

Beachside Camisole, $10.80, www.forever21.com.

3" Filigree earrings, $12.99, www.girlprops.com.
And remember to always dress to impress! You never know who you'll meet!
~Suzie

Thanks Suzie!
Alright, so what do you think. Did the interns turn it out? I think they did...

Intern Style Report: Freakum Dress

Happy Tuesday!
My social plate has been full, full, full this week and I'm so happy my interns have stepped in to a help a sista out. Today, meet stellar 'tern Rachel!
Greetings fellow fashionistas, Fashion Bomb Intern Rachel here!
Originally from the south, I'm now a college student braving northern winters. Now I still love colorful tanks, sundresses, and skirts, but for last winter, I enjoyed pairing high-waisted skirts, sweaters in rich shades, or dark stretch denim with a patent leather belt. Since my mother designed and sewed everything from clothing to bed comforters, I have an appreciation for brilliant hues and creative patterns. Designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Emilio Pucci are some of my favorites for their varied shades. Although it's nice to indulge in the latest trends, my fashion creed is to stick with classic styles that best fit your shape and personality. Rachel Roy's designs appeal to me because of their creative yet understated flavor.

Whether you like classic or trendy clothes (or both!), summer is here and it's time to take Beyonce's advice on catching eyes at the club:

"Short and backless/ See my silhouette in the moonlight/ Such an attraction, keep telling me how my outfit’s so nice/...Oooh put your freakum dress on/ Oooh put your freakum dress on/Every woman got one/Shut it down when the time comes/So pull out the big guns/and put your freakum dress on," Beyonce, Freakum Dress
The perfect freakum dress bares enough skin to catch glances, but also conceals your assets, leaving some mystery and intrigue.

The freakum dress queen herself, Beyonce, looks stunning in this short black dress with thin straps. This little number exposes a hint of cleavage in the front, and a tasteful flash of her thighs. The dress clings to her hips in a flattering way, creating a shapely figure. If you're going to pull off Beyonce's look with the peek-a-boo cleavage, make sure that...

...you have the proper support. Your chest should appear naturally lifted with glee, and not disdainfully hanging in woe. This dress makes 'Lil Kim's curvy figure appear flabby. The idea is to look shapely, and not plump. Strapless tube dresses like the one Alexis Phifer is wearing...

...accentuate the collarbone, showing off a great upper body. Tube dresses are perfect for highlighting a strong neckline, but steer clear of a tube dress that suffocates the bosom.

While Meagan Good may have been shooting for the pin-up girl look in this outfit, the dress squeezes her assets too tightly, making them appear almost cartoonish. While the tube dress shouldn't be too tight, make sure that it isn't too loose.

When shopping for a tube dress, look for something that covers and accentuates the bust, without applying too much pressure or leaving too much loose material.
If cleavage-baring isn't your style, take some cues from Kimora Lee Simmons.

This dress has a high neckline, and a plunging back.

Kimora's golden dress shows a daring expanse of skin in the back, but stays classy by covering in front. This outfit is best paired with a high updo, to show off the back.
If you want to find the perfect freakum dress to show off the upper-body, try these sexy yet sophisticated picks in brown, perfect for all skin shades.

From left: Forever 21 Halter Ring Dress, $24.80, www.forever21.com; Tadashi Leopard Ruched Strapless Dress, $171.00, www.bluefly.com
And for a more grown, sexy, and classic approach, check out black pieces, like this...

Above: Victoria's Secret Bustle-Back Little Black Dress, $69.00, www.victoriassecret.com.
...or, like this flattering choice here:

Above: Geren Ford Keyhole Cocktail Mini Dress, $357.00,shopbop.com
Now, it's time to find that freakum dress!
~Rachel

Well alright then, Rachel! The 'terns are tearing it up, huh?
I absolutely love it!

Intern Style File: Chanel Iman

Hey Hey Hey!
Today I'm so excited for the very first The Fashion Bomb Intern post. First up is Elita, who brings us a Style File on top model Chanel Iman. Read on...

Fashion Bomb intern Elita checking in!
I’m a Chicago-born, Miami-bred girl who also did time in NYC (shout out to all my peoples in Queens). I’m a librarian by trade, fashionista by birth. My grandmother was a seamstress and my mom passed along her eclectic taste to me. Living in a climate where it’s scorching hot 90% of the year makes me partial to vibrant prints, embellished sandals and short shift dresses, but I love classic pieces that can carry you from season to season as well. Some of my favorite designers are Zac Posen, Catherine Malandrino, John Galliano for Dior and Max Azria (BGBG).

For this week’s Style File, I chose to profile up-and-coming model Chanel Iman.

You may have noticed her as the only black woman gracing Vogue’s May 2007 cover, an ode to fashion's 10 new superstars, poised to become one of the world’s next top models. You probably also spotted her strutting her stuff down the runways in Paris for the likes of Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino. All in her first season of shows!

Chanel Iman Robinson, the daughter of a half-Korean mother and an African-American father, was born in ATL and raised in L.A. After begging her mother to take her to an agency, she was signed on the spot to Ford Models at age 12. She was also third runner-up in the Ford Supermodel of the World competition last year, which jump started her career. Now the 5’10” stunner divides her time between NY, L.A. and Paris and is home schooled so she can concentrate on her career full-time.

Ms. Robinson states her favorite store is Zara and her favorite label is, of course, Chanel.

When she's not ripping the runway,

Ms. Robinson opts for cute baby doll dresses

Bold colors and prints

And loves the layered look, mixing high and low end pieces.

Want to cop her look for summer? Try these bold, flirty tops and dresses:

Top Row: Chain Neck Printed Halter, by T-Bags, $194, shopbop.com
Calle Ocho Dress, $188, www.anthropologie.com.
Bottom Row: Diane Von Furstenberg Adelaide dress, $325, www.net-a-porter.com; Tracey Reese silk pocket cami, $240, www.pinkmascara.com.
~Elita
Claire back...so I went to the DVF Sale yesterday and it was crazy! It may have been raining, but the line was really long...

And inside wasn't much better!

After an hour or so, I found a few dresses including this one...

that Christina Milian wore here...

for $150 (50% off retail)! I rocked it to a party last night, and it was a hit! Anyway check out the DVF sale...

...all current season are in stock, and it's on until Friday.

Friday Mail Bombs

Hey Hey!
It’s Friday, and time for more mail bombs!

Yet again, I received help from my fantabulous ‘terns. They’ll all (hopefully) be making their Fashion Bomb debut next week...can’t wait!
Until then, let’s get to some piping hot mail bombs.
First up reader Mataya says:
"I'm looking for this bathing suit..."

"worn by the beautiful Selita Ebanks. Do you know who makes it or where I could find it?"
Tenacious 'tern Elita found that the bathing suit is none other than this very affordable and very available...

Floral & Dot Two Piece from Victoria's Secret. The top and bottom are sold separately, and lucky for you they're both on sale (The skirt is $40 and the top is $75)! Hurry up and buy!
Next, reader Tyneka wanted to know:
"I luv the dress that Ciara wore in this picture..."

"Do you know who made it??"
I found that she's sporting this...

...See by Chloe Gingham shirt dress for $495 at www.net-a-porter.com. But heads up: I saw this exact dress on sale for $170 at Bloomingdales!! Don't waste your money...head to the store and get the sale price!
Next up, Monique contacted me with a wardrobe query:
"Hey girl I would really appreciate it if you could help me with a splurge purchase I made this past weekend in Miami! I bought these True Religion Jeans in stretch denim..."

"...because I am loving colored jeans for the summer and this color I thought suited my skin tone the best. My only dilemma...what color shoes do I pair?"
Hey Monique, I see you liked my yellow post! Yay! Anyway, that's a great question. I think the jeans are so playful that you can be a bit adventurous with colors. If you’re brave, I’d suggest wearing a multi colored sandal that picks up on the color of the jeans slightly (but not an exact match!). If you’re feeling more conservative, I think a stiletto sandal in a light neutral—brown, beige, gold, even white—would complement your jeans. My suggestions:

Top Row: Dollhouse Tiby Sandals, $65, zappos.com
Blay Sandals, $50, www.stevemadden.com.
Bottom Row: Miss Sixty Christianne, $166.46, zappos.com
Tribeca Lookin Grand Sandal, $59.95, www.nordstrom.com.
Get your strut on!
Lastly, Tamika contacted me with a styling question:
"I am going to a huge b-day party on June 9th and would like to accessorize this dress..."

"...I know its super plain, but I know with all the right accessories, I can hook it up and be a diva that night... I was thinking about turquoise jewelry and I was thinking silver shoes, but I am not sure if that's a good idea. Please help!! :)"
Hey Tamika. You're right: go crazy with accessories! First, the way to really set this outfit off : the right clutch and shoes. Silver will look too dull, and gold will be too bright, but a neutral bronze? Just right. Next, since your neck is basically bare, I’d go with a statement necklace in the bronze/gold family. Try a long, multi-stranded number or a chain with a pendant to emphasize your neckline. Feel free to play with color a bit to offset the color of the dress (turquoise is a good option, as it goes well with pink). Because you’re going wild with the necklace, you can opt for a simple hoop earring (touch of green optional to match the necklace). A few options:

Top Row: Emerald Jade Earrings, $15, www.oohboutique.com; J. Lo Fever Sandals, $103, zappos.com
Three Inch Hoop, $16, www.urbn.com.
Middle Row: Nine West Cammera6 Sandals, $79, zappos.com
Envelope Clutch, $35, www.victoriassecret.com; Charles by Charles David Sonora Sandals, $63, www.bluefly.com.
Bottom Row: Beaded Snake Chain Necklace, $11.80, www.forever21.com; Calvin Klein "Date Bag" Large Clutch, $125.00, www.macys.com; Blossom Necklace, $15, www.boutiquefinesse.com.
Have fun at the party! And hey, send me pictures!
Smootches!
PS Call for Real Style Submissions: As much as I love snapping pix of fashionable peeps on the street, I'd love to see how my readers get down. If you've got style, send me a jpeg at thefashionbomb@gmail.com. Show me what ya workin with!
