Hey,
So I'm in Paris, eating WAY too many crepes and drinking Orangina! I caught a bit of Real Style for ya (stay tuned next week!), but we all know what Fridays are for...
...let's do it!
First, Kendall asks, "There's a recent picture of Beyoncé wearing a feminine men's cut tuxedo suit."
"I know those are IN this season. Where, oh, where can I find some? To make matters tricky, I need the pants in a tall length! But I guess I can do that research if you point your readers and me in the right direction???"
Beyonce's wearing a modern version of 'Le Smoking' a menswear inspired pantsuit created by Yves Saint Laurent. I wrote about the style in a tribute to YSL here.
To get a similar look, Adriana found these items:
1. Diane von Furstenberg Desi Jacket, $445. 2. Forever 21 Velvet Pinstripe Blazer, $27.80. 3. Diane von Furstenberg Cece Pant, $275. 4. L.A.M.B Classic Tuxedo Pant, $185.
Next Nekaria says, "I Love the Simmons Sisters, they're hot!"
"... I was wondering if you can help me find the shoes they're wearing in this picture."
It seems that the fly sisters are wearing the following styles:
1.Yves Saint Laurent Black Tribute Sandal, $760. 2. Gucci Babouska Studded Bootie, $995.
Quite a lot for some stilettos! If your money's more 'Pastry' than "Gucci", get similar looks with these lower priced options:
1. Report Signature Beatrix Platform Sandals, $108. 2. Colin Stuart Studded Bootie, $98.
Nicole from Indianapolis says, "Can you please tell me where I can find the swimsuit Rihanna wore to Barbados with Chris Brown?"
" Many cynics think it’s ugly because it’s too mis-matchy, but I think it really shows that rock-glam look she is always trying to achieve. PLEASE help me out!"
Adriana says, "My guess is she mixed-and-matched pieces from separate bikinis to achieve her look. Try the mix and match bikini options that American Apparel, Victoria's Secret, and Old Navy Offer."
Tap American Apparel, where you can buy the following items for a similar style:
1. Nylon Tricot Zebra Print Triangle Bikini, $28. 2. Nylon Tricot Flat Bikini Bottom, $25.
Leanne fell in love with Aubrey's TRL dress:
She says, "Can you tell me who made it? And where can I find something similar for cheaper?"
Aubrey is wearing this Marc Jacobs creation...
...you can buy it now for $460 at www.net-a-porter.com.
If you want a similar off the shoulder look, go with these:
1. Cynthia Steffe Boardwalk Dress, $137. 2. Tibi Twiga Square Neck Dress, $174. 3. Puella Off the Shoulder Mini Dress in Noir, $149.
Erica says, " I wanted to know if you could tell me where Ashanti found her belt."
" If not that one, could you show me an alternative?"
Get the look with the following:
1. Rose Embellished Belt , $29. 2. Versatile Patent Belt, $49.
That does it!
Just a few more days in Gay Paris before making it home in time for Labor Day! Monday is a holiday so I won't be updating, but be sure to log on on Tuesday for a few "Anniversary" surprises!!!

You Should Know: Colures Magazine
Hey!
So while I'm here, I'm trying to get a full view of everything fashionable in Europe. A friend turned me on to a magazine called Colures...
...a UK publication that focuses exclusively on black fashion.
I know! While we're still hurting over the loss of Suede, magazines like Colures produce smart fashionable shots and shoots featuring women of color.
In addition to top notch fashion...

The magazine has intriguing articles...

And scintillating accessories spreads...
Chic!
Who needs Italian Vogue when Colures represents us all the time???
To read more about Colures, visit the site at www.coluresmagazine.com.
Take a peak at back issues, and subscribe for about $120 a year by clicking here.
Smootches!
PS Check out an interview with Colures Editor Leonie Brown here.
I'm in the Wall Street Journal!!!
*I'm quoted today in an article on Dress Codes in the Wall Street Journal!!!
Ahem. "...For Claire Sulmers, a 27-year-old fashion blogger in New York, the stumper was an "international" dress code. She thought she was playing it safe with a classic look -- a wrap dress by Diane von Furstenberg in muted colors. But when she arrived, she felt "slightly under-dressed," as she mingled with men in European-cut suits and women in celebrated designers' gowns..." Read the rest here!
*Oh and Happy Birthday Dad...
...Thanks for everything:)

*Moncler Jackets have done it once again, taking the typical puff jacket to the next fashionable level:

Real Style: Nottinghill Carnival
Every third weekend in August, Londoners have an event called Nottinghill Carnival......tons of people stream the streets of London's Nottinghill and Ladbroke Grove neighborhoods to celebrate Caribbean culture, music, and food:
Turns out my vacation fell during this time, so I had the great opportunity to partake:
I was set on enjoying myself, but knew I had to capture just a tiny bit of Real Style to give you guys a taste of the Carnival!
Check it:Hip hop chic was the trend, as this group flaunted their doorknocker earrings, dookie chains, and Adidas jackets...
These young ladies were eye catching in dresses with waist cinching belts, a herringbone patterned skirt with gladiator sandals, and a patterned top with skinny jeans....
This group had a lot going on, but captured trends I saw a lot in London: shorts worn with stockings and lots of plaid...
..and I did find a few guys, who were very fashion forward with hot hairstyles, shorts with suspenders, and English naval inspired jackets.
Chic!
I'm off to Paris today...hoping the internet connection stays constant!
Cheers!
Karl Lagerfeld's $1500 Bear + American Apparel Afrika Print
*Famous German teddy bear maker Steiff created a bear in the likeness of Karl Lagerfeld, replete with dark sunglasses, a dark suit, high collar and logo belt.
Only 2,500 limited-edition teddy bears will be launched at Neiman Marcus stores this September for $1,500 a pop. A $1500 Chanel bag, maybe. But a bear???? Not happenin!
*American Apparel has released a new line called 'Afrika'...
...comprised of leggings, tube dresses, and tops in African inspired prints. African prints are suddenly very commercial...
*Remember when we debated whether or not Solange was a Style Star or a Work in Progress? Well, here's another outfit to throw into the discussion...
..you can never say she's afraid to step out the box.

Quick Mail Bombs...
Hi Guys,
So I'm in the worst airport in the world, Washington Dulles, and there is little to zero internet access!!!
Yeah, it sucks. I have an hour and a half layover, and it's already taken me an hour to get online!!!
Thankfully stellar intern Adriana pitched in, taking over Mail Bombs today! I have a few minutes to post a few before boarding. Let's do it!
Prisca says, "I love your site and wanted to know if you can help me achieve the look below..."
"...Gabrielle Union is my style icon and I want to know if you could help me find her shoes in the picture below or a cheaper alternative (I am a diva on a budget lol)"
Adriana found you can get the look with the following items:
1. Double Knit Slim Ruffled Halter Dress, $139. 2. Jayanna Side Lace Sandal, $129.
Next, Cheryl from LA says, "I must know who made these shoes..."
...they're hot!"
Adriana to the rescue! She says, "Cassie is wearing a version of these Pierre Hardy Metallic Strappy Platform Lace-up shoes..."
"...These are from Hardy's Fall 2008 line and are currently only available to pre-order. They retail for 850 Euros (or a little bit over $1,200)."
Next, Soraya says, "I recently saw this jacket on Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, can you tell me where I can find it??"
"Its fierce and I would like to incorporate it into my post grad school wardrobe."
Adriana says, "Blake's purple-striped crested blazer is from Ralph Lauren's Spring 2008 RTW collection..."
"...It might be tough to still get in store but visit Ralph Lauren's Web site to contact them or find a store near you."
Lastly, Dee says, "Where's the best place to get fresh water pearls? My budget is $100-200."
Adriana offers, "Surprisingly, one of the best places to get freshwater pearls is a reputable moderate department store (like Macy's), as their jewelry departments tend to have lots of quality designs in this organic gemstone. Here are some stylish and affordable pieces:"
1. 14k Gold Cultured Freshwater Pearl Necklace, $175. 2. Multicolored Freshwater Pearl Strand, 72", $150. 3. Sterling Silver Cultured Freshwater Pearl Drop Necklace, $70.
Adriana, you're a lifesaver!
Hope that was enough Mail Bombs fun for ya:)
I'm sure my hotel abroad will have internet access. Hopefully I'll be able to update regularly while I'm away:)
Until then, Cheerio, Bisous...

Intern Style File: Brandy
...Brandy.Let's see how she did!
*************************************************************************
As she prepares to release her fifth studio album, it’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 15 years since Brandy’s first single, “I Wanna Be Down,” dropped and became an instant hit. Brandy’s fashion sense has a fresh, youthful energy about it, and it’s been fun to watch her look evolve as she’s grown from teen pop star to multi-talented R&B icon.
Brandy’s initial style mirrored that of most any teenager in the 90s: shoe boots, baby tees, back-pack purses (was I the only one who forgot she took Kobe to her prom??)…
…and, of course, she rocked the signature Brandy braids! As Brandy moved into her late teens/ early twenties, her style took on a new mature, flirtatious edge and we began to see her in more bright colors, fitted pieces, and short hem lines:

...And with the birth of her daughter, Sy’rai, Brandy entered full-fledged womanhood--all too evident in her fashion choices. Remember the flapper dress/gladiator sandal outfit she wore to the 2002 MTV Music Awards (two months after becoming a new mom?). She definitely made headlines...
These days, Brandy prefers a look that incorporates playfulness, function, and sophistication. She chooses red carpet outfits that accent her waist and slender frame, and feature earth tones and “statement” accessories, such as necklaces and bracelets...
Her casual look still leans toward the youthful, and like any girl who’s young at heart she seems to prefer graphic tees and long loose hair, along with other laid-back pieces to complement the look…
…yet she definitely knows how to dress for a party or chic affair:
It’s been a treat to watch Miss Norwood grow up!Get some of Brandy’s looks with these pieces:

1. Alice & Olivia Wool Jersey with Belt, $395. 2. J.Crew Beaded Waterfall Necklace, $150. 3. RSVP Taupe Petra Boots,$136. 4. Bebe Diagonal Draped Tunic, $69. 5. Tiger Graphic T, $11.
**************************************************************************
Great job Adriana!
Do you like Brandy's Style?

This line is about detail, fit and comfort as well as beauty and making women feel sexy.” The line ranges from sizes 32A to 44G, and is mostly satin and lace. Slated to drop in department stores by late this year or early 2009, all bras and underwear pieces are affordable at under $40. [WWD]

28 Fashionable Travel Essentials under $200
Hey!
So it took me all summer, but I'm finally taking a much needed vacation! I'm heading to London and Paris in a few days to capture some style (and rest a bit before Fashion Week)...
As a fashionista, you know I'd love to take my whole wardrobe, but the last thing I need are lots of bags to lug around London Town!
I decided to compile a list of 10 Fashionable Travel Essentials that will fit into one large carry on--along with 28 options that will take the most chic traveler through their journey with minimalist style. Pack lightly--but bring lots of accessories!
The epitome of crisp, a white tee goes with absolutely everything and serves as the perfect backdrop for dangling necklaces, bangles, and look at me accessories. If you're on vacation for a week, I'd say bring 3 or 4 options (scoop neck, v-neck), and switch them up for endless possibilities. Wear one with cute shorts, under a jacket on cool days, or with just about anything! My picks:
1. James Perse Ultra Supima Rib Short Sleeve T, $60. 2. Intuition Wear V-Neck T, $26. 3. Unisex Sheer Jersey Short Sleeve V-Neck, $22.2. Jeans
A pair of jeans is the perfect travel go-to, fitting yet stylish for a plane ride. Versatile, jeans can be dressed up in the city of your choice with flats or heels, and can be your solace on an unexpected chilly night. Bring your old faithful pair, you're guaranteed to need them at some point!
1. Seven for All Mankind Stretch Skinny Jeans, $155. 2. BDG Vintage Crackle Cigarette Jean, $54.3. Scarves
1. Silk Jacquard Scarf, $28. 2. Chan Luu Triangular Ethnic Scarf, $175. 3. A Peace Treaty Jhal Jhao Scarf, $99.4. Graphic T-Shirts
With days filled with walking, it helps to pack a few graphic tees to showcase your fun side. I plan on repping Barack and bringing along some Fashion Bomb Swag:
1. Barack The Vote Sunshine T, $25. 2. Fashion Bomb T-Shirt, $21. 3. Natural Woman T, $25.5. Tote Bag:
Use a large handbag to carry around all your essentials--reading, maps, your passport, and lipgloss!
1. Gianni Bini Addison Shopper, $142. 2. Melie Banco Double Handle Rouche, $95. 3. Armani Exchange Quilted Patent Tote Bag, $150.6. Comfy Shoes
For pounding the pavement, nothing is better than a pair of chic flats or fashionable sneaks:
1. London Sole Metallic Flat with Patent Trim, $90. 2.Puma by Miharayasuhiro Patent Leather Sneaker, $160. 3. Dolce Vita Adam Flat Thong Bootie, $138. 4. J.Crew Penelope Ballet Flats, $120.7. & 8. One Pair of Heels + Wrinkle Free Dress
As Beyonce shows, once you touch down it's not all about comfort! For nights out, pack one or two wrinkle free dresses and one sensible pair of heels in neutral colors so you can mix and match:
1. Holly Ruche Jersey Dress in Light Olive, $84. 2. Riller & Fount Boatneck Jersey Dress, $135. 3. Imagine Keely High Heel Wedge Sandal, $91. 4. Charles by Charles David Spin Wedge, $110.9. Oversized Sunglasses
Hide those tired eyes upon touchdown, then flaunt your specs for sightseeing. I love my Gucci shades, but you can still look hot in non designer brands:
1. D& G Dolce & Gabbana Oversized Logo Wrap Sunglasses, $150. 2. Max Studio Harlow Sunglasses, $90. 3. Armani Exchange Large Round Sunglasses, $70.10. Oh so chic Carry On
Put everything in one bag if you can. You don't want to deal with possible luggage lost (or extra fees for checking too much!). Go with something like these...
1. Diane Von Furstenberg Scallop Collection Expandable Bag, $180. 2.Liz Claiborne Escapade 21" Suitcase, $130. 3. International Traveler Lightweight Wheeled Suitcase, $119.Besides, you don't want to be stuck like some people...
Ha!The interns will be taking over for me next week (and I'll be checking in from across the pond!)
Until then...
Smootches!
Trace Magazine's Black Girls Rule! Party
Last night super stellar intern Adriana came out with me to check out Trace Magazine's Annual Black Girls Rule! Party:
Yeah, we were just chillin with our homie Ryan Leslie.
Anyway, lots of celebs came out to play, including cover girl Keri Hilson (who happened to be wearing Melody Ehsani earrings)...
...and MTV's Julissa Bermudez (co-host of Countdown to America's Best Dance Crew)...
...I love that skirt!
Adriana and I got to work capturing lots of Real Style via video and pictures. We don't have it all ready for ya, but here's a bit of a preview...

...fashion's finest truly stepped it up! Not quite sure when we'll have a video ready of last night's festivities, but trust me, it'll be worth the wait.
Smootches!
PS Shout out to Claude and Prince of Trace Mag! And everyone, cop your issue of Trace Magazine's Black Girls Rule! Issue...

Designer Spotlight: Melody Ehsani
Hey!
This week has been pretty nuts (in the most fabulous way)!
But even with all the madness, I still take time to bring you trend lovers some fashion goodness! Today, I wanted to spotlight designer Melody Ehsani:
A Los Angeles native of Persian descent, her eye catching shoes, earrrings, and rings have been seen on several urban fabulous celebs including Rihanna...
Alicia Keys...
...Kelis...
...Erykah Badu...
...and Nas...
Originally in law school, Melody followed her heart, leaving her corporate courses to take classes at the Art Center College of Design...
She hit the ground designing tour merchandise for Prince, and hasn't stop running ever since, creating jewelry and accessories for videos, red carpet events, and photo shoots.
More than just jewelry, Ehsani designs shoes as well...
Hot!
Her designs are surprisingly affordable, with earrings starting at $48 (for Kelis' earrings), rings starting at $25, and those lovely shoes averaging about $120 a pop. Not bad!

Mail Bombs: Celeb Looks for Less
Happy Friday!
The summer is winding down:(
But hopefully these Mail Bombs will set a cheerful tone.
First Tasia asks, "Can you please tell me where I can find the shirt Lauren London has on?"
Elita found that Lauren is wearing this Public Library Obama T...
...get it for $25 at www.trendystars.com.
Next Tawanda says, "Three Words: Chanel Iman’s Shoes!"
"I love the look Chanel has going on in this pic. Any idea who made these fabulous creations or a similar pair?"
Chanel has great style, and Elita found she's wearing these $1,575 Christian Louboutin Forever Tina Platform Suede Boots...
...models have all the great accessories!
Right now the closest cheaper alternative available are these $310 Betsey Johnson Tisha Booties...
...but wait for the brisk to weather to see whether Steve Madden or Aldo offers other options.
Charmayne from NYC says, "I soooo heart Cassie's sandals!"
"...Am dying to know who the heck they're designed by?"
In my humble opinion, Cassie's style rivals Rihanna. I'm just sayin'. We found that Cassie is rocking these Yves Saint Laurent Tribal Sandals...
...from their fall 2008/09 collection. The site where they're sold has them for 640 Euros, which translates to roughly $940.
Tamandra was interested in Cassie's skirt. Homegirl is wearing this $595 Herve Leger Bandage Skirt in Grey...
Get the look for a little less with this $265 Mara Hoffman Seamed Double Knit Mini Skirt..
..or try this $49.50 Victoria's Secret Pencil Skirt in Seasonless Stretch...
Lastly, Elisha asks, "I was wondering if you could recommend some stylish fanny packs. I can't find any online that I like."
Fanny packs are a trend that I'm sure will take a bit of time to catch on; it's reflected in the paltry online offerings. Try these:
1. Gucci Belt Bag, $455. 2. American Apparel Vinyl Fanny Pack, $17. 3. Spano Fannypack, Price Upon Request.
That does it!
Have great weekends!

Last night I went to Vibe Magazine's 15th Anniversary Party.
It was truly a star studded event, featuring performances by Naughty by Nature, Estelle, Swizz Beatz, T.I., and Ryan Leslie.
You know I had to capture the scene!
I was juiced to finally meet June Ambrose, who I interviewed in one of my first Breaking Into Fashion posts....
...said 'hey' to Laurie Ann Gibson (known in some circles as Boom Boom Kat)...
...sidled up to Toccara....
...Pepa...
...D Woods of Danity Kane...
...and Swizz Beatz...
It was fun!
I took lots of video of the performances and captured some Real Style around the party scene.
Stay tuned for Monday's next Fashion Bomb TV Real Style segment, care of Vibe Magazine!
Check out more party pix at Young, Black, and Fabulous.

Boutique Spotlight: PB & Caviar
Hey!
So the other day I decided to drop into cool new New York boutique called PB & Caviar....
...if you haven't heard, it's a hip shop for women and children owned by none other than Evin Cosby (daughter of Bill Cosby shown below)....
I was scheduled to go to the store opening (last Thursday), but couldn't make it, so stopped in Friday afternoon to take a look around...
...and chat a bit with Evin for the Fashion Bomb.
Regarding her reason for opening a boutique, she said, "I always wanted to have a store. I loved shopping for people and my parents encouraged me to be an entrepreneur."
And what's with the name PB & Caviar? She explained, "I have a five year old daughter who loves peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. And I thought, adults like caviar. So PB & Caviar reflects the affordable & chic, grown up yet young elements of the store."
Carrying women's clothes by Anna Sui, Tracy Reese, and Chelsea Flower as well as kids clothes by Ben Sherman, Diesel, and Scoop, the shop definitely had plenty to offer! I quickly found lots of Fashion Bomb worthy items:
This cute sequined top by my new favorite designer Interlud was $186...
A patterned dress by Odabash was $552....
This Ingwa Malero white dress was gorgeous at $300...
...a classic white shirt dress by Danang is $128...
...and this embellished cocktail was $460.
Ok, so I suffered from a bit of sticker shock. When you go, have your credit card handy, but don't be deterred by the prices; I found an affordable dress/top for under $200 that I'm going to wear to an event tonight! And there are t-shirts and jeans that start at $28.
It's worth a look!
So drop in and say 'hey' to Evin at PB & Caviar, located at 88 Thomas Street off West Broadway in NYC.
Tell her I sent ya!

Comme des Garcons for H&M + Barney's Warehouse Sale + Fashion Quiz!
*Nitrolicious has a first look at Comme de Garcons for H&M:
According to W Magazine, "Mostly black and with Japanese tomboy airs, the H&M collection includes a range of tailored jackets, many deconstructed, along with cropped pants, baggy shorts and a variety of skirts in stretch wool. On the perkier side are polkadot knits in jersey or merino wool, colorful shirts—some with dots—and a “showpiece” coatdress decorated here and there with dense Victorian ruffles. " Yawwwwwwn. [Nitrolicious]
* I just received my postcard in the mail for Barney's Warehouse NY & LA Sample Sales:
Details:
Why: 50 - 70% off regular prices on select designer clothing, shoes and accessories for men and women, as well as home.
When: LA - Thursday, August 7th thru Sunday, August 17th // NYC - Thursday, August 14th thru Monday, September 1st (check flyers for opening hours)
Where: LA - Barker Hangar, Santa Monica Air Center, 3021 Airport Ave, 310.777.5700 // NYC - 255 West 17th St (btwn 7th & 8th Ave), 212.450.8400
Let me let you all in on a little sample sale secret: Never go the first day. It's a madhouse. Besides, they replenish the stock in most cases. Go during the last few days, pick up a couple Manolo's and call it a day. You can thank me later.
Update: Sorry to keep you waiting...we had an answer within 2 minutes from Tamandra from Cali!!!
She correctly answered that the head designer for the GAP is Patrick Robinson...
As commenter Nicole said, "After successful tenures with Perry Ellis, Anne Klein, Paco Rabanne and Giorgio Armani (to name but a few), Robinson made his way to Gap in May 2007. Just one month before his Gap appointment he was featured in a Fashion Bomb Black History Spotlight." Thorough; love my back in the day readers. Oh, reader Nadine also added, "We care cause he’s a brotha!!!" Y'all are hilarious. Congrats to Tamandra for her quick response! Thanks to everyone who participated. Stay tuned for even more Fashion Bomb contests!

Real Style 2.0: Central Park Summerstage
Hey!
So I recently purchased a Flip Video Mino...
....compact and easy, the Flip Mino is a video camera that's about the size of a large ipod. I've been wanting to bring some video to the Fashion Bomb for a while, and my Flip made it perfect for my fashionable pursuits!

Cool, huh? Did I mention that I'm technologically impaired?? I edited that all by myself; it's rough, but it was actually pretty simple!

You Should Know: Gerren Taylor
Hey Fashionistas!
So the other day one of my friends suggested I blog about Gerren Taylor...
I had to admit I didn't know who she was (or why I should); he quickly shamed me.
Gerren Taylor was a fashion model who made headlines when she walked New York runways at the young age of 12...
...Labeled 'Baby Naomi' for her similar look and strut, you could see her statuesque frame dominating shows like Tracy Reese, Catherine Malandrino, DKNY, B. Michaels, Betsey Johnson, Carlos Miele, Esteban Cortezar, Heatherette, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Nicole Miller, and Nanette Lepore in 2004 and 2005...
Fast forward two years later, and Gerren found herself out of work and labeled obese by industry standards. Standing 5'11", Gerren weighed 130 lbs and was a size 4...
She told the LA Times last year, "When I first got into the business I was 12. I didn't know anything about what was happening … anorexia, bulimia and all that stuff..I have my own mind, but it's hard not to fall into that trap and be one of them … [but] I just said, 'It's not worth my life..."
Gerren's been in the news lately, as her story dominates a new documenary called "America the Beautiful," which debuted last Friday...
...the movie criticizes America's obsession with physical perfection. Gerren's story, from being queen of the runway to out of work, fits in perfectly.
I'm going to check it out!
Also, look out for Gerren as a recurring cast member on BET's Baldwin Hills.

*The September issue of Elle Magazine features a new collection by jewelry company De Beers...
...The collection, called the Amulets, is comprised of diamond pendants fashioned in the shape and likeness of African masks. Blood Diamonds indeed. [AOL BV]

Designer Spotlight: Boxing Kitten
Hey!
So today I wanted to put you onto a hot collection called Boxing Kitten...
Created by Maya Lake (pictured above), the line is inspired by Josephine Baker, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Marion Lake, and is rooted in the political and cultural elements that women faced during the Civil Rights movement...
Maya says, “If you take the patterns and very feminine silhouettes of women from the Civil Rights and then put those dresses in African inspired prints and fabric, then you have the Boxing Kitten aesthetic...”
Each garment is comprised of bold and fearless print combinations, and cut in charming and demure silhouettes. Unique and pretty, Maya calls Boxing Kitten "ethnic rockability."
A graduate of Wesleyan University, Maya began designing clothing at the age of 10 with the help of her mother, and by 15 she was sewing clothing for family and friends. The demand for her clothing steadily increased and she soon began to think about sharing her art with a larger base.
After a few years, Alife, Prohibit and Patricia Fields began selling her clothes, and stars like Me’shell Ndgeocello, Erykah Badu, Cristina Milian, DJ Rashida and Jack of J*Davey became customers and fans...
If you want to know more about the line, visit Boxing Kitten at www.myspace.com/boxingkitten. I need to have one of those dresses!
Smootches!
Thanks Kim!

Real Style : LA
Hey!
So I've been busy this weekend preparing for my Young, Black, and Fabulous guest Blogging Spot. Thankfully, I have some Real Style stored up for Monday's chic spotlight!
While I was in LA, I took a quick detour to the Beverly Center, which is basically the dopest mall in the area. I stopped this young lady by the Dior store...
....for her cute Cali style. Simple yet chic, she paired a bright yellow and pink t with skinny jeans and matching pink pumps. Everything from her nails to her blinged out accessories and large bag completed the look.
So what do you think. Does LA have Real Style?

Last night, on top of my blogging duties, my I made it out to Club Home to celebrate Vanessa Simmons' 25th Birthday Party:It was a surprise, and she seemed elated by all the fanfare...
...and the cake was delish!
Of course I had to snap a quick pic with the sisters.
Angela was very sweet and looked fresh faced for the club......And Vanessa kept it super casual in a t and jeans...
...The girls were very down to earth and sweet. And they are avid blog readers, loving The Fashion Bomb and Young, Black, and Fabulous.
That works!

Mail Bombs: Rihanna's Herve Leger Skirt, Mimi's Mini Skirt, and Kelis' Shoe Boots
Happy Friday!
Let's solve some Mail!
First up, Chavonne says, "Can you please tell me who makes the outfit Solange has on?"
"...I must have it ASAP!!!"
Elita found that the 'Work in Progress' (your words, not mine!) is wearing this $300 BCBG Max Azria Silk Charmeuse Sheath Dress:
It's super cute!
The dress might be a stretch in these tough economic times, so get the rest of her look with these low priced accessories:
1. Enzo Angiolini Pacifica Strappy High Sandal, $74. 2. Arden B Ruched Leather Clutch, $88. 3. Linea Paolo Braxton Sandal, $120. 4. Forever 21 Patent Skinny Belt, $8. 5. Twined Tie Belt, $20.
Next, Khalilah from Amherst College says, "I just saw this picture of Rihanna over at The YBF and I'm loving her look!"
"... I want to get up on the color block trend, and this skirt would be perfect! Also, can you help me find cute AFFORDABLE alternatives???"
Well, Rihanna is wearing this Herve Leger Bondage Skirt in Pink...
..find it for $552 at www.shopatmilk.com.
Unfortunately, guys, some designer things don't lend themselves to cheap alternatives. If you want a similar look, I'd say throw on a black tank with a high rise mini like this $180 Rachel Pally Red Stretch Jersey Pencil Skirt...
and call it a day! Your other option is to wait for Herve Leger to go on super sale.
Monique loved Mariah Carey's teeny bopper look in this picture...
...She says, "It's so cute and perfect for back to school!"
I must admit, though it fits with Mimi's spandex predilections, I do like the colors. Get a Mariah Carey 'Forever 21' look with the following:
1. Old Navy Blue Button Down, $20. 2. Blank Ombre Stretch Mini, $69. 3. Chamak by Priya Kkar Resin and Crystal Bangle Set, $58.50.
Next, Sharifia says, "I recently saw these peep-toe booties Kelis was wearing and I HAVE TO HAVE THEM!!!"
"... If anyone can track them down, I know you can :)"
And I did!
Kelis is wearing these $895 Chloe Strap Wrap Open Toe Boots...
...Get 'em at www.intermixonline.com.
And lastly, Jennifer says, "I was wondering where I could get a dress like Taraji Henson is wearing..."
"... and what kind of shoes and jewelry would go with it? Thanks!"
Intern Adriana stepped in, saying, " I looked but couldn't find Taraji's exact dress.Taraji's wearing this season's staple, a maxi dress, with an abstract, citrus-hued print. Here are a few similar pieces:" 1. Elijah Tiana Maxi Dress, $187. 2. French Connection Field of Dreams Maxi Dress, $150.3. Milly Peekaboo Ring Halter Dress, $492.
For jewelry recs, Adriana says, "Citrus colors always go well with gold jewelry, which Taraji herself is wearing with the outfit. With halter necks, you might want to stay away from necklaces as they can make the outfit appear busy. Follow Taraji's lead with gold cuffs, which accentuate bare arms beautifully, and large hoop or drop earrings that mirror the maxi silhouette."
The interns are good!
That does it for today! If you've sent me a wardrobe query i.e. "What do I wear to my wedding" or 'What to rock for a first date?" those are coming up soon in the form of posts. Don't worry, I read everything that comes in, but solving them takes a bit of time!
