Cheap Trend: Tights!

Tights are super trendy these days. I went to a party last night and I swear, 7 out of 10 girls had on a cute short-ish dress with tights like my friend here:

I had to blog about it.
Not a hard task, as tights have many positive attributes:
1. They keep the cold at bay on frigid days.
2. In a dark color, legs appear slim and trim.
3. They don't cost an arm and a leg (You'll spend less that $35...unless you're buying Wolford, which in this case is totally unecessary).
4. In my experience, opaque tights almost never get runs like sheer hose.

Aren't we glad they're so trendy?
As with any trend, there are flattering and unflattering ways to wear them. Let's look at a few celebrity examples:

In this picture, one of my fave singers Jojo does it right by pairing black footless tights with a cute sweater dress.

Amerie (who always looks fly)...

Wears dark tights with a sweater dress.

And Sanaa:

Pairs hers with a pretty dress and pumps.
Cute!

Now for the train wrecks:

I'm totally hating on the colored tights that match the dress.

Also, shiny tights:

Might do a disservice to your legs.

This month Marie Claire tried to tell us that white tights were cool:

But Brooke Crittendon (Kanye's Ex Boo) shows us that they really aren't:

At least not for girls with some thighs.

Next:

I'd say that you should probably steer away from wearing tights with a short top.

Lastly, IMHO, tights should be in solid colors:

Not channeling the Wicked Witch of the East.

My absolute favorite brands of tights would be Spanx. I have two pairs of Spanx's Reversible Tight End Tights. They're navy, dark brown, or grey on one side, and black on the other. Two tights for the price of one for *only* $32! If that's too steep, Hue has great tights and footless tights for $11 each or 2 for $17.50. Visit their website at www.hue.com.

And take heart. Once this fad passes, you can wear your tights under pants for an extra degree of warmth (hear that my Northeasterners??)
Smootches!
PS In my opinion, it's totally fine to follow trends occasionally...as long as you keep it cheapo:)

My BF taught me to wear tights under my pants this winter to keep the cold out. Brilliant! Doesn't sound like typical advice from a man, but he's from Chicago so he knows all the good tricks. Wore tights yesterday under my sweater dress and boots and my legs were a little chilly, however. So I'll always cover them up on the super chilly days.

Long live tights!

Other real cheap places to buy tights are: Conway, Payless, Pay/half and other stores like that, Marshalls and other stores like that, CVS, Target, etc. They have opaque tights for 5 or 6 dollars and under! I love your blog by the way!! (C:

Question: Do you think it's a good idea/bad idea to rock leg warmers w/tights?
