So it's New Years resolution time! I of course have tons of personal goals...hit the gym like a maniac, eat more grains and roughage, shift my career into first gear, become an editor at Vogue (or Elle or W or Harper's)...but priorities ladies!
First, and foremost, I must make a few New Years Fashion Resolutions.
I've whittled it down to about 5...let's get to it!
1. No more cheap shoes!
It's one thing to buy shoes on sale, it's a totally different thing to buy cheap shoes that fall apart after one season. I love me some Nine West (Lord knows I do), but I had this one pair of cute black pumps. I had to get the heels fixed like every 2 weeks or so, which I guess is fine, but the last, absolute last straw was when I got caught out in the rain with them, and they actually cracked in the front (right by the pinky toes)! My Manolo meter has been on unofficial hiatus, but I'm looking to revive said meter in the New Year.
In the meantime, I found a pair of Coach mid height heels (sorta like these)...
...that were $100 marked down from $200. Not bad...and since the rescuscitation of the Manolo meter is in effect, let's say that it's now at $200 and counting!
Another important thing: Comfort! When I finally get my hot shoes, I need to be able to walk in them every day (if I want to) without pain.
2. Chill on Chinatown!
My post about fakes ignited the biggest, most hilarious, and well balanced debate in the history of the Fashion Bomb! I absolutely *loved* it, and have decided that I'm ultimately gonna follow Kimora Lee's advice: rock whatever scarves, bags, and clutches I can afford--with pride!
3. One status bag. Somehow. Someway. I'm getting my first real, non-vintage, affordable status bag...and by affordable, I mean that the price won't equal my monthly rent.
A good starter bag could be either the small $595 or large $620 Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag in either the traditional, monogram canvas:

I'm leaning towards the Damier pattern because it's more distinct...I've seen great fakes of the monogram canvas bag, and I want something that can't be mistaken for faux.
4. J.Crew in moderation.
Ok, ok, I confess: I am *obsessed* with J.Crew. Yes, I'm a sucker for cable knit and class!
My mother was *appalled* this past Xmas when I took her to my local J.Crew and the salespeople were like, "Hey Claire!" and "It's been a while, how have you been??" She shamed me, calling me ridiculous. She's right, but I'm trying to change...besides I need to funkdify my look up a bit, and argyle screams 'Connecticut Mom' not 'Fashionista.' I'm gonna amp it up with more sample sales, boutique shopping, and pieces from young, chic (and cheap!) designers.
5. Lastly: Fashion Shows, Fashion Shows, Fashion Shows!
The thought of not only viewing new collections firsthand, but also being in the same breathing space as Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley gives me goosebumps. Hopefully no more sneaking in, crashing, or finagling. I mean I'll do it if I have to, but...let's get some invites crackin.

I love your resolutions, I'll have to borrow a few of them! The number one resolution on my list is a great haircut by a top stylist. It'll cost an arm and a leg, but it's an investment b/c even if your outfit is so so, your hair can make or break you!
great resolutions! My own is to really try and buy pieces that I feel *great* in. It's so easy to buy a cute shirt on sale that's okay, but doesn't really JUMP out at you, but you buy it anyway cause it's on sale. I want to limit those buys and only focus on the items that really move me!
You can get some pretty nice shoes that do not cause such embarrasing situations that are inexpensive. Anything made in China has a shelf life of 6 months. There are tons of sales at the department stores. Also Gucci, Chanel and Fendi are all having sales you could get a great bag for about $500 from them. Just don't do logo. Last stay away from the fakes! It is a hurting feeling when you get exposed. There are tons of great brands that are inexpensive plus, a true fashionista doesn't want to wear something that is so easy to identify.
My fashion resolution is quality over quantity. Ihave tons of cheap sweaters or dresses that I got on sale that languish in my closet untouched. Had I taken the money I spent on all of those pieces and bought one nice Marc Jacobs top, I would have something that I probably won't see on a lot of other women that will last me forever. Less is more.

I have pledged for '07 to be the beginning of my style revolution and I loved the suggestions you make. Once the rest of the weight is gone, I plan to build my wardrobe to a solid collection and I use you site as a branch mark on where to begin. KEEP IT COMING!!!
Love the site. Check it everyday. Since having a baby and getting married, staying fly has fallen low on the list... but NOT in '07. So I need your help Claire, we're depending on you!! And I'm in CA!!!
Happy New Year Claire! My biggest resolution is to get back down to fitting in the clothes I do have...then I'll think about more fashion! I do like your bag idea...I got my first "it" bag last year (Fendi Spy) and now I'd like a nice classic piece in 2007(and that'll be all for me!) My vote is for Epi or Damier...too much fake LV logo out there!

Girl Please it doesn't matter how much money you spend on shoes cause Manolos break also! I know this first hand because I spent $575 on those stupid ass manolo hiking boots and my damn heel broke after like 3 months! I was so pissed cause my friend had bought the Steve Madden ones and hers are still in tack even though they are played out now. But I'm not the only one that that happened to. So I'm not sure if it was just those boots or not but you'd think after investing all of that money into a pair of boots you'd get what you paid for! Still mad about that even though it happened a while ago, you situation just brought back memories so I'd figured I'd share ! ;)

Mines are first and foremost to wear heels more often.I have tons of sneakers but only 1 pair of heels.. yes i know i should be ashamed.I am 26!
Why would you spend 595 or 620 on a bag when there are some perfectly good looking ones for $100? Fashion isn't always about the name. For $600, you can buy some really nice clothing and shoes that you can wear more and that will probably outlast your one bag with someone's name on it.
